Subject: Miki4 not showing up in downloads

2436mm ( ) posted Wed, 25 June 2014 at 4:10 PM · edited Mon, 02 December 2024 at 11:32 PM

I just downloaded Miki4 and it's not showing up in my downloads library. I found the file on my harddrive but I can't access it from the library. Is there a way to make it show up so I can use it? Thanks.

you add it to poser library whilst running poser.  click "add library" button.

Thanks. I did that and it worked. Unfortunately, I tried to add "Frills and Lace" from the zip file and it shows up but when I tried to use it, it told me that the materials for it didn't exist. I really wish they would go to a "drag and drop" method of adding content to the libraries. Much less nonsense and frustration, especially for us new people.

You must examine the zip file for proper runtime file set up.  If the vendor inadvertently changed the working path after packaging, the clothing will have difficulties finding associated textures.  Or your search settings might be set too shallow.

How would I find that out? Here's a file heading example from the Read Me: /Runtime/Libraries/Materials/Clothing/Miki4 Clothing/Frills and Lace/FLM4-Boots

If I placed the Runtime files manually, which "Runtime" would I put them in? I assume it wouldn't be the one in the program itself but the one that is in the User/Shared/Poser10Content/Runtime/Libraries/Materials/Clothing

It's a little confusing when all you hear is "Runtime" and you don't know which "Runtime" they're talking about. Each of the Miki4 clothing files contains the following: Libraries, Read Me, Templates, Textures. Would I just put the whole file in the Clothing section or do I have to place each part individually in their own area?

you add runtime as previously mentioned, provided that

/Runtime/Libraries/Materials/Clothing/Miki4 Clothing/Frills and Lace/FLM4-Boots

is enclosed in folder with distinctive name, e.g. miki4_clothing (be cautious with certain characters)

proper OS X/P10/PP2014 protocol requires installation of said runtimes in shared folder,

e.g. User/Shared/Poser10Content/

there can be hundreds of distinct runtimes.  in addition, is utility for OS X for proper merging of downloaded zips, but these things take time to learn.

The Runtime can be anywhere, but it should not be in the programs files folders.  The simplest way is to find your main content location (which in your case would be User/Shared/Poser10Content/) At this location there should be a folder Runtime and Downloads.  If you really want you could add the Miki runtime into the main Runtime (listed above) or drop it into the downloads folder.

The key to adding content from Zip files is to open the zip and find the Runtime folder inside the zip.  Open the location of the Runtime folder you wish to add to and place the zip Runtime beside the location Runtime, not inside it.  At this time windows will ask if you wish to merge the two folders.  You should say yes.  Windows may ask if you wish to merge the subfolders and you should also say yes.  As long as the new files from the zip do not duplicate existing file names it should add all the content with no more popups.  If there are duplicate names then you will have to determine if you want to keep the original file the new one or both.  Most of the time you should keep the newest file, since mostly likely the dupilcate names came from the same vendor making updates to the files.

If Poser was closed when this was done then when you next run Poser the library will display your new content.  If it was running then there is a little update circle to force the library to reload content.  As long as the content maker placed all the files in the correct locations with in the zip folder then the new content should work with no issues.

Thanks guys. I found everything. I think I was looking in the wrong file. D'oh! I went into Props and everything was there. Still getting used to this stuff. I also downloaded the Reality render plug in. I got the app installed easily since they tell you which file to place it in but I'm not quite sure where to place the Props & Lights file. They say to place it in the same Runtime as your content but that's not really helpful when you're new. Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. I'm using Mac OSX 10.9 Mavericks.

Your props and lights will go into their corresponding folders in runtime under libraries.  This the standard setup in Poser. Libraries will contain the following Poser specific folders: Character, Poses, Hair, Faces, Props, lights, and Materials.  When instructed to place content to runtime, open libraries folder within runtime, and place your folder containing the props content into the libraries' Prop folder.  Doing it any other way will cause a big mess when trying to locate content.  Only when become proficient and comfortable with the library can you rearrange and customize.

Thanks, hborre. I'll try that let you know what happens. I'll get the hang of this sooner or later, but customizing will definitely have to wait a while.
