Subject: OT: the slowest renderer...

here's to all of you, who believe in the fastest hardware, the most photoreal images, the most sophisticated software, and the expertise to push it all to the max.

In the end it just takes a story, a man, a pencil, and a year...

BTW: just do the Making Of, the resulting animation is in the end.

Usually I'm wrong. But to be effective and efficient, I don't need to be correct or accurate.

visit www.aRtBeeWeb.nl (works) or Missing Manuals (tutorials & reviews) - both need an update though

Amazing! :-)

What immediately strikes me is Glen Keane's ability to capture the human body in motion.

Imagine drawing indiviual drawings that together creates such a seamless effect of movement that looks absolutely natural and so beautiful!

Wow. That was beautiful. It was interesting to see the difficulties they had with combining the old style drawing with the new tech.

I swear I really don't know about what that girl was saying.
62 fps for a simple cartoon ? I don't get it.

and I know we can morph a child in to a adult.
There's nothing in that cartoon we can't do.

I have no idea what a PC has to do with drawing old school.
Was the video a school test for something or what ?

60fps, not 62. The number suggests to me the average hertz rate for a monitor, 60 cycles per second, or 60 screen refreshes per second. Some monitors have adjustible hertz rates, some are 75 hertz... but most are 60 these days.

As to old tech to new tech, I was around as a graphic designer in the pre computer days. I was almost hired to teach rotoscoping at a technical college. If you don't know what that is, check out this sad clip

and feel free to turn the sound OFF, it's about the graphics.

I'm really missing the point here, what is so special about this? There are numerous applications out there that do this for years already. They allow you to animate what you draw, I do believe Smith Micro is offering one of them for years now. Yes, it may not be as fluent, but it has uses the same techniques. Only because some big names are involved, it suddenly becomes something special now? I'm not saying the results they have is cool, but all the blah blah blah around it is so boring, as if they invented something oh so new and special, while the techniques have been around for ages already. That girl and her team must have been locked up in their offices for ages, not knowing what's going on in the real world anymore.

aeilkema... Just because you can do something with a machine doesn't mean it's a less impressive feat to do it manually.

This was about using the artistry of Glen Keane in a new way that hasn't been done before. The result is a great little film. Yes, you can do animation in other ways and in more efficient ways, but it would not be a Glen Keane animation if he's not holding the pen...

Sure, they will not revolutionize the way cartoons are made with this, but that was not the intention.

Oh well, everyone can waste his or her time on whatever they want..... just keep in mind that we as consumer pay for it in the end.

as long as a monitors refresh rate is fast enough to be smooth.
&
as long as fps are high enough to for the video to be smooth then ya good.right ?

and if videos at 24fps plays on my TV,PC just fine then ...

Some of the stuff that girl is talking about ,
I just don't get why they went about making this cartoon the way they did.

I guess there's a reson ,I just have no idea what that reson was.
When they started this a decade ago ago .I didn't get it then & still don't
but it's a nice cartoon thou.
