Just to let you know Marvelous Designer on their website recently announced their Open Beta for Marvelous Designer 4.

The beta test ends September 13th. Participation is still open.

There are many modifications compared to MD3. Some key new features in MD4 are:

  • Ability to export quad mesh rather than triangles. This choice can be made on pattern level and with subdivision the user can take full control (= full responsibility for the result!!) over the meshing.

  • Shallow copy mirror patterns to maintain symmetry while editing. No need anymore to delete the mirror pattern and re-do the sewing of it when you made changes.

  • Basting ('tack' or temporary fix) cloth to cloth or to avatar. Traditional MD pins are a sort of manipulator and fix the fabric to a postion in XYZ space or to the nearest point on the avatar. Basting behaves likeone would expect from cloth being pinned to itself or to a mannequin.

  • 3D arranging of prints

  • Multi-segment sewing makes working with pleats etc. more easy.

  • Improvements in the FBX import.

The compatibility issues posted in the announcement thread (see above) to my knowledge are solved now.

regards

I downloaded it so that I could see what it's all about. I could never afford the license for this, so I guess while it's in beta and I can play with it I will.

If I had a nickle for ever time a woman told me to get lost, I could buy Manhattan.

Quote - have to admit I like MD but have they changed there rules on obj export??

Indeed there have been some changes in MD's stance on .obj files.

The license agreement for MD4 says for the Personal License:

Quote - Licensee may sell or distribute its original works and their derivatives in any file formats and Licensor acknowledges that it has no right, title, or interest in and to any such original works and their derivatives.

To my reading this says you can make your .obj's from the original patterns you make and do with them as you see fit.

A trial license, not surprising, does allow use for internal evaluation only.

That is what I made this post for. Enjoy!

I am still trying to wrap my head around the program. I watched the tutorials, but they were a bit blurry and I couldn't really tell what was going on. I am going to devote the day to learning it. I have to upload a freebie first...

Just to bring to the attention of those who have been on holiday:

The open Beta still has 12 days to go, so if you did not yet have the chance here's your chance to get a free and full taste of Marvelous Designer.

The startup bugs some configurations experienced appear to be solved.
