Does Internet Explorer 11 work ok with 3D Programs such as Poser Pro 2014 and Vue II Infinite etc? It keeps popping up for download when I check for Windows updates! But I have been hesitant to download and install it. Cheers

I have not ever, ever, ever used, downloaded, upgraded any version of Internet 'corrupter'.  Stick with a browser that isn't slow, buggy and unsecure.  I've always used Opera since as a somewhat obscure browser it isn't nearty as big a target as IE.

@bentbobb - This is the Poser forum. If you're using Poser, you're using an IE component whether you're aware of it or not. And you cannot substitute Opera for it - Opera doesn't work as a plugin replacement as an application-embedded browser component. I'm not even sure what you're suggesting there.

Re Poser Pro 2014 and IE11 - yes it works.

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

There is a patch available from Microsoft that will block an upgrade to IE version 11 and still allow updates to version 10.

IE 11 does cause (or at least did cause) compatibility issues with some software.

The IE 11 issues were with older versions of Poser such as P8.  IIRC, SMS provided a patch for P9/Pro 2012.

No problem. If it's any consolation, I had to talk myself out of counter-flaming. grin I'm 54.

Thanks everyone. I guess the question is "Is there any advantage in installing IE 11"?

Cheers

For me this is a bit of a Hobsons choice. The trouble with not upgrading is the further behind from the current version you get the more problems you will face in the future. It might be ok to stay on 10 now but what happens when IE12 comes out. IE11 is not just the browser but as already mentioned shared code that many apps use to access the Internet (so there is also falling behind on security patches to consider as well as the loss of support for newer apps).

If you're planning to upgrade the OS in the near future it might be better to wait until then and deal with any issues in one go.

If you do decide to upgrade don't forget to create a system restore point first.

I always keep IE up to date on my system, and I practically never use it as a browser. It makes a great frontend for my VBS widgets and utilities :)
