Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 29 7:57 am)
Ah. So, I went to "Personalize" and then pasted in the new SN and it worked. They probably told me to do that in some email, lol.
So, is there any reason to keep my 2014 non dev version around? I had seen some complaints here in the forums when dev first came out, and wanted to wait until those issues had been resolved (not sure if that's the case). I can pull it from the backup, if there is good reason.

I thought it was the same thing....I updated to the latest service pack a few weeks ago without knowing that there was a new version of the software out. From what I have read here you shouldnt end up with a different version of Poser on your system just update the old version with the service pack and then put in the new SN. Is this not the case?

ok, yeah I've been running it for a few weeks and not had any of the problems that others have had maybe because I just updated and others thought it was a full blown new version that required a fresh install. I was reading where folks had troubles with their scripts and whatnot.
They just placed it on sale for $20 so looks like a good time to upgrade.

You either need to locate the email with your Game Dev serial that SMS sent you or go to your CP account.
You don't need to download all the content installers again but you should download the main Poser installer and the support files. The support files have all the documentation and updates to manual regarding the new tools for the Game Dev edition.
If you are still within the 30 day download time frame, you should be able to lauch the SM Download Manager, put in your Game Dev Serial and download the files you need. When I downloaded it, there were two tabs in the DL manager window. One had the Game Dev installers and the other had the SR 4 update and Pro 2014 content update.
If you are beyond the 30 day download time, go to your CP account. If you need to, you can click on the expired download links and it will take you through purchasing the extended download service.
If you have the files and have them installed, copy and paste your Game Dev serial in the serial number box of the personalization box. Your old Pro 2014 serial will appear in the old serial numbr box. Fill in any other fields you want or need to and hit ok. Then close Poser and restart it. You will get a new start up screen that will list your Poser version as Game Dev rather than Pro 2014. That pretty much indicates it's installed.
I did a clean install for the Gave Dev versions which I have been using since launch I have not noticed any problems. The raytrace preview appears to be faster buth thta could be my imagination, certainly it does not crash as often as Poser pro 2014 did.
If you have a Pro 2014 installaltion which is not updated then I can see you might like to keep it as a fall back. If it is updated to the new service pack then I can't see it is a fall back as they are basically the same thing as Game Dev is built on top of the new service release.
I use Poser 13 on Windows 11 - For Scene set up I use a Geekcom A5 - Ryzen 9 5900HX, with 64 gig ram and 3 TB storage, mini PC with final rendering done on normal sized desktop using an AMD Ryzen Threadipper 1950X CPU, Corsair Hydro H100i CPU cooler, 3XS EVGA GTX 1080i SC with 11g Ram, 4 X 16gig Corsair DDR4 Ram and a Corsair RM 100 PSU . The desktop is in a remote location with rendering done via Queue Manager which gives me a clearer desktop and quieter computer room.

I bought this back in august, and I'm just now getting around to installing it. However, it looks like the installer was for an updated version of PP 2014 because the SN is incorrect.
Is there any way to know which installer you are using? I don't get why we can't just download the actual files...I've got some cheap crappy interface for downloading service packs and programs, and I think the fact that I was trying to download SP 4 for 2014 it messed up my Dev download...
