Subject: WIP: a demon bounty hunter

You know who he is...

This is a render of the finished product. I will be collaborating with seachnasaigh on getting the flames on him.

A couple details:

I modeled the bike and the suit. The skeleton is the Ryan Conforming Skeleton from Poser 9.

The suit is modeled using Tyler's mesh as a dress dummy, and I rigged it with his rig as a donor.

When you conform the skeleton, there are a couple poke through issues that have to be fixed by tweaking the skeleton.

This wil be titled Demon Bounty Hunter for Tyler. I am not trying to pass this off as a new figure...

For the parts of the skeleton which are covered by the outfit, maybe you could hide those elements (un-tick the visible property box)?

It occurs to me that it might be best if I make two variants of flames, one for when he's stationary with flames rising vertically, and the second for when he's riding, with the flames trailing behind.

It's not really necessary to hide them. It's mostly the thigh bones, and if you move them side to side they line up and are hidden.

Yeah, two variations on the flames would be cool, but I don't really want to put too much on you. This is a freebie, afterall. It's a lot of work for no money...

If you want, I will site mail you and get your email address. That way I can send you the bike and the suit. I am assuming you have the skeleton in your runtime.

In Poser 9, it is under Libraries/Character/People/Additional Characters. It's called Ryan conforming Skeleton. But I am assuming the male skeleton will work. I haven't tried it. I used Ryan conforming because I modeled the suit off Tyler.

EDIT: I sent you a reply in site mail. I have your email address now and will send the files soonest...

So, by tomorrow afternoon my time (Japan/Korea) I will send out that file.

Going to send out the file today. I got caught up in real world happenings and couldn't get ashore to a wifi spot until now...

I got the zip, cousin Rokket.     Currently, I'm experimenting with flame meshes.  This material seems to be sensitive to curve eccentricity (sharpness of bends), and it will take some iterations of testing before I get something I like.  Then I think I'll need to make a few nested layers to give it depth.

I could send you occasional render tests to keep you up on what we've got.

Cool. You could post the renders in here if you want to. I am not trying to keep a secret. Unless that's how you prefer to do business.

Did you find any problems with my meshes?

OK, I'll post w.i.p. test renders here.  No problem with your meshes.

This is the first time I've tried using BB's fire, so I have to get a feel for how it reacts to a mesh, and re-shape my flame mesh accordingly.  I expect to go through several iterations before I'm satisfied with the shape.

Right now I'm working on flaming the front wheel and the eyes.  The flames poke through the fender over the rear wheel, but that's only until I get to re-shaping that mesh.  I'll want the fender to contain/channel the flames.

After that, I'll work on a flame trail behind the bike.

Final bit will be an EZ-posed chain whip with flames.

Nice,

Yeah, I put BB's fire shader in my runtime. I haven't really messed with it too much. I tried to apply it to a 2nd skeleton loaded in Poser, but it didn't look quite right.

I can't wait to see what you come up with!

No IDL emitters yet, but the combination of mesh shape and flame material is working fairly well.

interesting looking bike ;-) whats your poly count ??

for poser, nice flames but a bit thin!! and all the flames on skull are from under chin ?? ok so I'm thinking blender but I'd add a scull cap to be a particle emitter

should be flames from exhaust too, a lazy soft one if bike is still and a hotter(thats gonna hurt) when its moving (like a gas axe)

did go watch the film again ;-) for me (at least) watching any film twice in the same decade (or two) lol just makes you find the bloopers but thats fun in its own right

nice work will look out for it

Added a layer to thicken the flames a bit.  I'm not happy with the head either, Heddheld;  needs a more even distribution.  But anyway here is a test shot with IDL emitters.

That looks really good with the IDL emitters!!!

@heddheld: the poly count is around 100k for the bike.

There is no exhaust pipe, as I styled this closer to the bikes he rode in the comics due to not being able to emulate the movie bike in Wings.

rokket ( ) posted Sat, 27 September 2014 at 6:32 PM

I see some issues with the boots. I didn't notice them before: the toes. I may redo the rigging and just have the toe cap of the boot be all one group and label it rToe/lToe, so it's controlled by that instead of the individual toes. I don't like that splitting.

I'm just glad that you gave him gloves.  Don't know how hard it might be to get flamed hands to look right! :tongue1:

I'm working on an old laptop, but sending test renders to two (also old) HPs with dual processors (quad core Xeons) and 32GB RAM each.  A test of the fitted head flame is running now.  Then I need to re-shape the bike eyes in order to get better flame distribution.

I gave him gloves because the suit is from the 70's era comic book and it had gloves. They were very hard to model and get right.

I like the flames that cover the whole face of the bike; it's another touch that distances it from any of the other bikes.

I will be sitting down tonight and working on redoing the boot rig, and to fix the area around his collar bones where the skeleton is poking through at the top of the suit.

I don't want to release this until it's working as perfectly as I can get it.

Your part is awesome.

The flames around the head have been fitted to shape, and the emitter intensity lowered to avoid white-out.

Amazing work cousin seachnasaigh! I am getting giddy now!

I redid the rigging on the boots, so they don't have the toe split now, but if you do something wonky with the toes they poke through. So don't do something wonky with the toes, right?

Looking good my friend. I like what I see so far.

You might use a preloaded doll (CR2 of skeleton & outfit & flames), with every part of the skeleton below the chest and collar bones un-ticked for visibility.  As far as I know, as long as you don't distribute the geometry or textures of the skeleton -your CR2 would reference them, but not provide them- you're OK.

Because the flames reach down into the chest, it occurred to me that we need to deal with posing.  I made conforming flames, but because the shader is sensitive to mesh shape -which changes with a pose- this morning I am experimenting with separate overlapping parented props.  Once this is done to my satisfaction, I'll send you a zip.

I noticed an error in the origin of the Ryan skeleton jaw;  it was left with the default geometric centroid position, so that it doesn't open properly.  Use the joint editor to adjust Z offset 0.004 and Y offset 0.663 so that it will hinge realistically.

Ah, see I never posed the skelelton beyond one of the poses included in Poser. I didn't think to open the jaw. I am glad that I didn't rig that.

As far as the cr2, the skeleton conforms to the suit, not the other way around. I am going to experiment with the different skeletons included in Poser and see what happens if I conform them to the suit.

I can't wait for the zip file. I will play with it for a couple days working on a render to attract attention to if for the freestuff section, then release it.

When I get the experiment done with the other skeletons, I will post the results here.

Thank you again for your work. I would not be able to pull off the stuff you do.
