Subject: My Grandma is too shiny :)

putrdude ( ) posted Mon, 29 December 2014 at 6:22 PM · edited Thu, 06 February 2025 at 6:33 PM

Hi,

I was working on a figure of a Grandma, on a Victoria 4 base, with Grandma morphs purchased in the store here.

I like Grandma just fine, except I'm worried she has a skin condition.  She's looking a little shiny.

I've been a long time user, but only an occasional dabbler with Poser and when I return to it, I forgot what I knew if anything.

Can someone give me  a hint at which settings make grammy's skin look plastic and shiny?

Thanks!

Look at what is connected in specular and or alternate specular in the advanced material room..
We can only help more if we see the nodes. But basically, reduce specular.

Hi, Thank you.

I put specular value to zero, and she's still got a lot of shine on her face...arms too, though you can't see them in this shot.

I can always fix in post, but I'd like to start with a decent shot first.

Thanks for helping.

This may seem like a silly question, so please forgive me if I'm being too simpleminded, but the screenshot shows the mat for her innermouth. Did you adjust the settings on her skin materials as well?

Haha,

It was a great question. I didn't notice that, BUT I did check the other "Skin" settings and all the specular_values are zero.

So it must be something else, but I haven't a clue.

Before we go further, which Poser version are you using?  Judging from the pic post, there appears to be too much lighting for the scene.  Now Depth Map or Raytrace lighting as a source?

vilters ( ) posted Mon, 29 December 2014 at 7:59 PM

Yes, show a skin shader, and the light setup.
It looks indeed way too many light.

Are you rendering in Raytrace with GC and IDL enabled? You can at least half the light setup in that case.
The clear give away is that there are no shadows at all; Every shadow gets washed out by light.

check for reflection...somewhere ;). Also make sure there's nothing plugged into the Alternate Specular node.

looks like she's popping out of a coffin. The way she looks made me think of "Greasy Granny's Gopher Gravy" from Gov't Mule's Deepest End album.

She IS popping out of the coffin.  She's not quite dead yet...or is she.  Ya, she is.

Okay, you were so nice to help me, here is the image. Still a work in progress but getting there.

Thanks again.
