One picture is worth a thousand words. Is there any way to fix this?

Yeah I'd love to see those go away myself. Even with a cable modem it takes longer to load up only to tell me there isn't a thumbnail or no hotlinking allowed.

I've found hitting the browser reload button replaces the Fortune City icons with the real thumbs.

One thing I also fear is if/when Renderosity allows HTML links that those links will just take us too Spam sites.

heyas; they do allow html linking now, and the html allows you to go to the site and download those files that they otherwise wouldn't let you get. but everybody at fortune city should know by now that their thumbnails dont work. ;)

This is exactly why a free site is free. I understand that not everyone can afford hosting, in fact, I can only afford it for 2 of my 19 domain names. For just putting up the web site itself, most free sites are fine - but if you want file downloads, forget it. 50megs.com has paid site options starting at $4.99/mo., no banners and I think a 2.5MB limit. Just my .02... :)

Wow, I just went out and checked out 50megs.com and looks like a great deal. Wish I had known about it when I was searching for a hosting service. jon

Their Sitebuilder tool is pretty good too. The same one that BizHosting.com uses (where my posertrax.com site is hosted). If I'm right, the same company owns both hosts.

Tripod has 50 megs of space for a free site. About the thumbs...Renderosity is supposed to start hosting them.

zoozI2000 ( ) posted Mon, 01 October 2001 at 11:45 PM

but put the rest of your site somewhere else.

jstro ( ) posted Tue, 02 October 2001 at 4:06 PM

It's not just the 50 megs. It's the whole deal. No ads - banner or pop-up, 5MB file size, 1 GB monthly throughput, remote file posting, an e-mail account and more for $5.95/month. That's just 71.40 a year, less than the cost of two games. With no ads; I think that's pretty good. Like I said, wish I had found them sooner. Might switch next year when I'm up for renewal. And the 9.95/month deal ain't bad either. jon

I have a friend that is in the workings of setting up a server on a T1 line. He will be offering 100mg drive space with unlimited bandwidth, and remote linking will be allowed.. He is thinking of charging $15.00 a moth for the 100mg. Anyone intrested can email me for more details as I get them from him :) Just thought I would let ya know :)) Cheers!
