Subject: Can't save a modified clothing prop w/o corruption?!?

hamiltonpl ( ) posted Mon, 02 February 2015 at 1:52 AM · edited Thu, 14 November 2024 at 9:14 PM

Grrrr.  Very frustrating.

So, I have a clothing prop in a scene that I loaded from my library. This is something I created a while back  via a WW conversion in Poser 7 so I wanted to modify some groups for material purposes.  I am now using PP2012.  Once I have that done I save it to the Figure Library.  I notice that when it saves correctly it creates a png, xmd, pmd, and CR2 file.  On successive revisions it will suddenly NOT save correctly.  The CR2 file is Half the size of the last successful save/load.  Sometimes I notice that it decides to create a new OBJ file.  I notice this by interrogating the folder that holds my conforming clothing figures. I have no idea why it is creating a new obj certain times but not others when saving to the library.

I don't understand why it is corrupting.  I am looking for the OBJ files inside the CR2 and believe it or not it is referencing folders in Poser 7 that aren't there

figureResFile C:Program Filese frontierPoser 7RuntimePythonposerScriptsPhilCWardrobe Wizardtemptemp000.obj

  • but nevertheless the prop appears ok in the PZ3 scene BEFORE i save it to the library or save the scene.  I am wondering if this is just referential - it would seem that it would have to be because the files do not exist.

If I save the scene (PZ3) and then reopen the scene the conforming clothing prop is corrupted.  Again, if I load from the library it loads ok and appears ok - no missing polys - all is good.  I just can't seem to save it with any consistency at all.  Oh, and the other thing is when I load the library item it's a P5 figure with a clothing prop.  I can sometimes get it to save to the library correctly but only if I save it as WHOLE GROUP (with the figure). If I try to save it as an individual item - clothing only - it corrupts every time.

Is there any way to correct this corruption? I know I can export the clothing prop as an OBJ but then it is no longer conforming and I have no clue how to re-rig it.  I am pretty sure this is done in the setup room - would be nice if you could just copy the rig from the figure you are conforming to. I don't know the clicks to make this happen.  Seems pretty drastic to have to do this - when the prop and the figure are working together in the PZ3 scene but you just can't seem to SAVE the scene OR the figure/clothing in the library.

Thoughts?  This is driving me crazy.  I am trying to modify a piece of clothing but after I do the work on the material creating new groups for different textures - I save it to the library.  My mods are there but the corruption and missing polys issue return.

Have you tried unchecking "Use External Binary Morph Targets" and then saving to the library? (General Preferences, last tab). I've had this corrupt some things for me in the past... Worth a try ;).

There were lots of problems with external binary morphs. Try turning them off and saving the figure again.

After much trial and much error  -  I finally was able to save the clothing prop w/o corruption and make the necessary material group changes to the prop as needed.  I had success when I zero'd all morphs on the figure that the clothing prop was conformed to.  I zero'd the figure and when i resaved it to the Library - finally it did so w/o corruption.

Consider this view of the library now:

file_a0a080f42e6f13b3a2df133f073095dd.jpThe top 4 entries are the correct way this figure group should be saving.  I have  CR2, PNG, XMP, and a PMD.  And if you look down for the 6/16 entries which is the last time I saved a good clothing group to the library the same files extensions are there.  BUT!  see the orphaned OBJ files with a date of 2/1?  These are various attempts at saving to the library that did not work.  I deleted these version using the Poser GUI but for some reason these OBJs are left behind.  There's even a random PMD there.  Why would these have not deleted when I removed the library entry?  And, most importantly I was doing nothing different but for some reason an OBJ was created for some attempts. Why?

And, lastly, I can still not figure out the CR2 that was created on the GOOD attempt at the top.  When I search for OBJs within that file I find the ones corresponding to the Poser figure, and the boot prop.  But the entry below appears within the file too but IS NOT ON MY COMPUTER:

}
morphBinaryFile :Runtime:libraries:Character:Lost In Space:FlightSuits:Will_Flight_3.pmd
figureResFile C:Program Filese frontierPoser 7RuntimePythonposerScriptsPhilCWardrobe Wizardtemptemp003.obj
actor BODY:3
      {

I used to have Poser 7 and the last time I successfully converted the clothing prop in question was with Poser 7.  I now have Poser Pro 2012 but am still able to get to this prop.  Is the OBJ of this file somehow imbedded in the CR2?  That reference above is not on my computer however the other OBJs referenced in this file are.  This has to be the OBJ referenced for the Clothing prop that I was having trouble with.
Can someone explain the structure of the CR2 and why it would reference a file that does not exist?

I recommend site mailing or email PhilC.  If anyone can help you, he would be the one.  The Poser 7 version of WW you used was likely the first version of WW which was a plugin version for Poser.  WW2 came both as a plugin and stand alone version.  I'm not sure but if IIRC, the include version of WW for P8 was actually the original WW.  P9 and up, I believe are WW2.  I have had some issues with old conversions from older versions of Poser and WW that I traced to Python.  Now, even if I have an older conversion, I will redo the entire conversion with a newer version to avoid problems.

On this paricular model - for some reason- when I convert trom P6 to P5 the conversion does not fit.  This is why I am using the old version of this particular wizard output. It fits. I have tried multiple reconversions to no avail.  I don't know what version of P6 the prop was built for - PhilC offered help but I could not tell him anything except that I got it from PoserWorld.

Do you remember which model it was from Poserworld?  I either have it on one of my CD's or can get it (I have lifetime membership).  What figure was it created for and what figure did you convert it to?

When you do your reconversions, do you rely on the old analysis of the figure to be converted or do you run the analysis?  Occasionally, I have found that the analysis files can become corrupted and I have to redo them.

If you haven't, delete the old analysis data from the folder for that model.  Check to make sure there aren't duplicates.  Also delete any conversions in the runtimes and the WW folders.  They run the analysis and conversion again.

If you can tell me the model and figures you are using, I can try it using both the original WW and WW2 to see if I come up with the same issue.

Sure. It's the  --  Flightsuit-2005-James.cr2
It's really strange. When I run WW on it and convert it from P6 to P6 just to add the inflate and shrinkwrap morphs - the resulting clothing prop doesn't even fit James. It does the same thing that it does when converting to P5.  The arms don't line up at all and you really can't adjust them.  However, when you convert it to P7 Simon it does work.  I would be interested to see if you get the same result as I do.  And, again, I did not have this problem with WW in Poser 7.   By the way, the WW I am using now works extremely well for all conversions except this one.

I have forced re-analysis multiple times to no avail.

I redownloaded the James version of the flight suit and added it to my P6 runtime (I have all versions on my system from P5 to Pro2014 for testing purposes; Game Dev is currently gone because of hoops).  I ran analysis and coversions in P6, P8 and Pro 2012.  The P6 conversion was done using the original WW plugin.  P8 and Pro 2012 both were the plugin version of WW2 not the WW that is included.  I saved the converted suit (conversion was James to Ben) to the library in P6, P8 and Pro 2012.  I checked the files after each conversion.  For all 3 conversions the analysis file was in the WW analysis folder, there were temp cr2, obj, and png files in the temp folder and obj, cr2 and png files in the library folders.  No pmd's were created as I had use binary morph targets off.

A couple of things you might want to try: first, go into the general prefs and clear the cache.  I don't know why but it's something I found worked for Pro2012.  Also try the old standby of deleting the Poser.ini file and letting it rebuild when you relaunch it (close Poser before you delete the .ini file).  If you are running multiple conversions, it's sometimes a good idea to clear out the temp folder before running a new one.  If you are doing the same conversion over, instead of overwriting, delete the analysis from the analysis folder and then run it again.

I've run through this a dozen times before - deleting the config files, the dat files, etc.   So,  I did all that you said AND I deleted the accompanying .rsr file that was included with the CR2 file.  I had never deleted this before.  And, this time it worked. So, I am not sure if that made the difference but now I have a decently converted flightsuit for my P5 Don. Thanks!

The only complaint is a slight oddness to the left flight suit collar around the neck but that can be corrected with the morph brush.

Glad you finally hit on a solution.  I wasn't getting any rsr files when I saved to any of the 3 versions, only png's.  Wonder why.
