Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 17 1:30 pm)
Another factor, and this has been noted in the past, your library folders may have been set to open by default upon booting. This can cause Poser to crash. You may need to relocate your runtimes temporarily, reboot Poser, make adjustment to the Library settings located at the bottom of the Library, then relink your runtimes.
Anyone have ideas..
Just the basic question: Is your version of Poser fully patched up? (I know, it's a dreaded question and one that is often unnecessary. But, somebody had to ask, right? :) )
Still nothing, tried to rename the folder and that seemed not to work. Click the application icon and get a few seconds of loading then nothing. Is it time to re install? Is so is there any dangers I n to be aware of? Don't want erasing all my run times
You couldn't rename the folder? Did it give a "still in use by another program" error? Do you have adequate permissions for that folder? It sounds like a UAC issue. Some possible fixes: http://www.thewindowsclub.com/troubleshoot-file-and-folder-permission-issues-in-windows-7
In case you were thinking it: Do not opt to totally disable UAC! UAC is critical to how Win7 provides many protections for your OS. Disabling it makes you very vulnerable. Instead, opt either to establish an admin account with full access or to take control/ownership of specific directories, like the directories that your Poser install uses. Downloading the "fixes" listed in that link isn't necessary, all you have to do is read up on how to configure your UAC to give you and Poser full access to the directories you both need to use.
It's also worth noting that there are limits to how many individual items and how deep a tree can go in the OS's directory structure. Once you go past that limit, the OS runs out of ways to reference that directory information. Normal users will never reach such limits unless they purposefully try to. But, ginormous and unwieldy runtime directories could, I suppose, approach this problem. How large is your Runtime? I'm not sure if there's an easy way to find out, but how many directories does it have and what is your "deepest" directory, the one with the most subdirectories-upon-subdirectories in it? Any way to know?
PS - I can't stand this clunky forum software... :/ :)
Ok, got the program up and running again; but now I have a new problem, after removing the program from my computer and reinstall it; I had to move around some of the run times
now when I use a previous made character; it spends forever searching for broken links, is there a quick and easy way without placing the files back to their original location
I've always had 100s of external runtimes with no problems. something else must be wrong with your setup.
I aim to update it about once a month. Oh, and it's free!
I am going to recommend 3 scripts, all by Dimension3D, which can handle broken links and runtime organization.

They are not free but they will fix most, if not all, your runtime problems. However, they do take sometime to learn and the process can become tedious if you have many modified runtime folders. But if you stick with your current arrangement, I highly recommend using one of these products to fix any broken, dissociated paths.
I keep geometries, textures, and morphs with the main runtime. specifically all morphs should be in located in !DAZ folder in your main runtime folder located in libraries.
other runtime products from various vendors are in a separate folder away from poser. once you locate your runtime some where else, you must select in poser to look for other runtimes
Maybe some of the content was exiled to virtual storage when you had the runtime in program files. If you open the runtime in Windows Explorer and see this compatibility files icon in the header bar, click on that icon and it will take you to the virtual store.
Look in C:>Users>username>AppData>Local>VirtualStore>Program Files>...
If you find any Poser runtime stuff there, cut & paste it to your new runtime location.
Poser 12, in feet.
OSes: Win7Prox64, Win7Ultx64
Silo Pro 2.5.6 64bit, Vue Infinite 2014.7, Genetica 4.0 Studio, UV Mapper Pro, UV Layout Pro, PhotoImpact X3, GIF Animator 5

That is no longer a valid option unless you are running WinXP or installed Poser away from Program Files. Current default settings create a content runtime within a public folder while still installing the main Poser program into Program Files. As long as proper Library links are established with Poser and adhere to content guidelines (i.e., morph packages with base figures) you should be fine.

I am a part time user of poser and still running poser 2010; a while back I killed the program by loading all my files into one runtime.
After cleaning out the file and reorganizing it into a number of other runtimes, plus reinstalling the program. I got everything to work again. But now it seems like forever for the runtimes to load, then after a few test renders, the program will crash.
Now I think I over loaded the runtimes again and need to spit them again because the program will not open after one of these crashes.
Anyone have ideas..
