Yes - your original question is like asking if drinks are better than apple juice. Apple juice is a kind of drink, so drinks aren't better.
IDL is a kind of GI, so GI isn't better.

Poser IDL (with or without IC) is one tactic to implement global illumination. There are many others.

Global Illumination: any lighting that involves more than just the surface being shaded. The strict interpolation already counts shadows as a global illumination effect, since that requires the interaction of other objects in the scene. Depending on who you ask and what software you use, global illumination may or may not include diffuse<->diffuse, specular<->diffuse or specular<->specular light transports.
Indirect diffuse light was the description we chose in FireFly to make sure it's an accurate description of what it does without raising unrealistic expectations. It calculates diffuse<->diffuse light transport through path tracing and irradiance caching (which can be turned off), but does not calculate caustic light paths which would require light transport through specular paths.

Nope. As stewer just pointed out, Poser doesn't do caustics, yet it does do color bleeding. Therefore, color bleeding must not be a caustic thing.
Observe:
Now if you don't perceive much red on those pawns, let me point out that your brain is filtering it out. You see the red wall, and you expect to see some of that bounced red on the nearby pawn. Your brain does automatic and area-selective white balancing in this case. You perceive the pawn as being whiter than it really is in the picture.
Instead - let's make the red wall invisible to camera, but still contribute to IDL - now what do you perceive?

I just confirmed that this crapola new forum software is recompressing my images - the quality of what you're seeing in my last post is WAY worse than what I produced and uploaded.
I'm about up-to-here with crap like this. I made a high-quality render that took several minutes, and the damn forum trashed it down to 24KB and it looks like shit.
I'm wasting my time here.

It randomly unchecks the Notify box when you reply; you have to manually check it. I also can't paste into the compsition window without it replacing all of the text, so I need to compose anything with links in a text editor and paste the whole block in...... >:(

IDL respects transparency maps, and therefor opacity. If it didn't, then all the transmapped hair out there would be useless with it. Also eyes would render black.

translucent is only supposed to let the light through, was my understanding.
can't entirely trust the Diffuse.
in the past, BB has mentioned Diffuse, and Alt Diffuse are different calculations.

@everyone I have bumped up the quality of our image processor for the forums. On image upload, the file size will still be compressed but will not lose image quality. Also, keep in mind that the images will also be responsive, therefore, might not display at the exact image size resulting in pixelation. To fix simply right-click the image and open in a new window to see the full image.
was reading renderman pro has pathtracing.
