Subject: Recent security breach notice

Kazam561 ( ) posted Thu, 26 March 2015 at 7:59 PM · edited Tue, 19 November 2024 at 9:57 AM

Just got the email and site mail notifying me of data being captured from the site during check out between February 9th and March 18th of this year. This information should be posted on the front page of the website in bold letters. Ideally while we are all waiting for replacement payment cards, and the added inconvenience any sale should be extended (or repeated). I know many users simply won't shop here given the breaches. Those that do should have the option of catching the sales they miss while waiting for their cards.

I have enough of that CreditCard Cr**. It is the 3rd time, that they stole CCinformation within 5Years. I've allways considered this place as rather save, but no , obviously not. The shock goes deep. Got charged with an extra 2000$.

Right now I'm not willing to buy with a CC again anymore. Won't be able to avoid it, but onlineCC shopping is going to be a rare event for me, hoping to minimize risk by that.

Oh brave new world.

I'd prefer a real life Rndo store, where you can pay cash. Worldwide, like Mc Dona*ds. ;)

Just got a new CreditCard three Days ago. I've got charged too... Just now I'll use PayPal to buy here, feels more secure. As Kazam said I miss few sells also but I can live without them. Thanks again for the Notice!

(...and I agree, Notice should be posted on General board so everyone can read it!)

Two credit cards skimmed within 2 weeks-- second time on the 23rd of March.  So anyone who made purchases before then should beware and check with their CC company for possible fraudulent charges.

Since I refuse to use that vile company known as Paypal, I don't think I'll be shopping here ever again, which is sad.  Renderosity has left me no choice, unfortunately.

Just an FYI I got the email yesterday and today when I got home from work, saw a "tester" charge on my CC out of Dallas, Tx .. I'm in Oregon.. cancelled my only debit card. I can agree with above, unfortunately because I've had issues with PayPal, I am leery to go that route as well.. not sure  how I will be able to purchase through Renderosity now. :(

I have not purchased anything here in like a year.. My question , is my credit card info still stored here and if so how do I delete it? Obviously it's not safe here.

Hello

It is safe here, the threat has been removed and extra security measures have been put into place that will help keep us steps ahead of those horrible hackers that roam the internet.  Unfortunately in this day and age with huge corporations like Target, Home Depot, Sony just to name a few, getting breached, its the world we live in whether it's online or in a physical location but we've worked tireless to ensure we are secure and safe.

We do not store credit card information so No, your informaiton from past purchaes is not stored anywhere. We've never stored credit card info. This is why you have to input your info on every purchase,

Thank you

Well now that is reassuring. Thanks for the quick reply.

My problem isn't so much the skimming as it is the length of time it took you guys to fix the problem :(

It's not just the corporations getting breached, either-- hospitals are a very popular target, esp. for identity theft, and as someone mentioned, your credit card can get skimmed there, as well.  As was clearly the case here, most of these incidents are the doing of organized crime-- a lot of viruses too-- I've seen a lot of places give a figure of 40% of the viruses out there-- and generally they're the more virulent ones like the FBI and ILoveYou viruses, used to gather your personal information or ransomware.

(Whereas adware trojans and DNS tend to be the result of corporations and anti-establishmentarians, respectively.  Though counterintelligence groups are responsible for their share of DNS viruses as well...)

I wish we could notified you sooner but since the attack was intermittent as stated in the notice it was very very difficult to determine since it wasn’t a consistent attack it made it all the more difficult to determine there was an issue, isolate it and contain it. Our techs were very diligent in continuing their investigations and this diligence was what finally led to us confirming what was going on and being able to identify what was happening and containing it.  They worked tirelessly for weeks and still are.  This hacker was very sophisticated and unfortunately the time we live in this is getting more and more common but with the extra over the top security measures we've added it will be a great help going forward.

Just received my new card and had 3 false charges on the 24th totaling about $2000. Contacted the bank and should get refunded,

Probably use Paypal in future, hopefully safer.

That still won't keep you from getting skimmed.  Remember those big skimming incidents, like the one at Target a couple years ago?  Organized crime members rigged the CC scanners to either store info or send it to some place, I can't remember which.  The culprits were employees working there with ties to a  crime ring.

People have also gotten their CCs skimmed at the DMV and at clinics, as mentioned in these threads.  Clinics and DMVs are also by far the most popular (successful) hits for identity thieves due to the amount of personal information processed there, including SS#.  The breaches are often on the inside, by an employee.

turtleheart ( ) posted Mon, 06 April 2015 at 12:20 PM

Mine got breached as well.  Some dipshit company tried to charge me for services I have never done business with.  Hubby won't let me use new CC card here anymore.  Will have to use Pay Pal for purchases.

Lakotariver ( ) posted Sat, 11 April 2015 at 9:31 AM

Not a problem now but thought I should say something. Found out what someone was trying to purchase with card.

I had someone try to use my credit card number and Received an email from Rendo around this time that they have a security breach and credit card info was exposed for a short time.. Someone tried to use my card to purchase something that hides IP addresses. For those that do not know, An IP address identify's your Internet address. This program from a site called Hidemyass.com does just that and this same program was used by the hacker who hacked into Sony Pictures a good while back. Someone tried to use my card for that but I caught it a few hours after they tried and it did not go through. Had to contact bank and have new cards sent and cancel old cards. The only place I can think of they may have had access to my cards is from Rendo. I could be wrong about this but all is good now.

PAnn ( ) posted Mon, 13 April 2015 at 11:30 PM

MIne was hacked 3 times. This CC I only use for the internet so I know it was not in a store. Once last fall, and again  twice in this timeframe here within a month. No sooner did I get my 3rd card then a month later I was getting my 4th.  Don't know how much I will be spending anymore either until I can figure out what to do safely.
