THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Overclocking?

Hi guys n gals,

I've now got a new computer and a new widescreen monitor.

My new PC comes with options for overclocking, but I don't understand what to set. Can anyone help?

I want to test this PC against previous PCs I've had on Omac's Benchmark test file.

I did a lot of testing with Bryce 7 and Argus...

I have a dual CPU E5 machine.  Bryce can only use one CPU.  It can only use up to a maximum of 8 cores.  It uses actual cores at about 80 percent and virtual cores at about 10 to 15 percent.  So my CPU's are 6 core so I get 80% on the six and 10% on two more.  That is ONLY if you have render priority set to maximum.

If Render priority is set to medium (default) then it will use half your cores up to 8, so on a 6 core machine, it will use 3.

If render priority is set to low, it will use ONE core only.

RAM helps with importing object, but not with render.  Render is entirely about cores and speed.  So set it to high, and get as much speed as you can.  The AMD 8 core 4ghz chips will run Bryce very fast.  Faster than my dual E5-2630 machine.

But since most modern apps will use all cores, Poser, Autodesk, Vue, Modo, etc, I'm happy with the machine I have.

Hope that helps.

Yes....

Thing is I already run Bryce in High all the time.

I have 4 cores on this machine.

But what I was wondering about is Overclocking.  I have this prog called "ASRock ATuning" and I just wondered about what sort of settings would give me an overclocked PC.

I did once have 8 cores for about 20 minutes, and my husband set that up for overclocking, but there was some sort of compatability problem between those 8 cores and something else, so he took those out and I was back to a dual core until very recently.

Imagine:- I once had it really good and then - (imagine sound of energy core powering down) sigh.

I just wanted to test out this PC at the best it can do. (I have liquid cooling now too! Wayhay!)
