Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 21 6:06 am)
I'd bet your new computer has Windows 7 or 8, and your old one had XP.
If that's the case, It's Windows User Account Control at work; it will only allow Poser to write to its own program folder. Just copy the Poser 7 program folder outside of Program Files, and reinstall the SR3 update, pointing it to the new location and telling it to keep existing preferences, and it will update the file associations and shortcuts. If you didn't install SR3, you should get it here...

"Oh - the manual says that? I have never read the manual - this must be why."Both computers run on Windows 7. I thought that it might be a store or product issue...maybe the product links time out after a while?
The issue is old software running in a newer OS. P7 uses an internal library, and Windows' UAC security feature resists write operations to anything in program files, so you can't save stuff to the library. Look in C:UsersusernameAppDataLocalVirtualStoreProgram FilesSmith MicroPoser and manually transfer any misplaced goodies to your new P7 installation.
Shutting off UAC is not a good idea, as UAC is a line of defense against malware (which often attacks by overwriting one of your legitimate programs).
For older apps on a Vista+ computer, I create an ExtProgFiles folder, and that's where I have Poser 5 installed, as well as PhotoImpact X3 and GIF Animator 5. Anything which has a read/write library within the same folder as the program itself gets installed to ExtProgFiles. All later programs, which have their libraries in documents get installed to the regular program files so that they are protected by UAC.

Hi. I have had Poser 7 for many years and I got a new computer and installed it via disc. Everything works fine except when I go to extract the Runtime folder into the Poser 7 folder of the newer Renderosity products I have purchased. It tells me "Access is denied". Can you tell me why this is happening? I can extract just fine on my old computer but it won't let me on the new one. Can anyone help? Thank you.
