Subject: G2F (Callie 6, G6, or A6) MATs suitable for Poser pro 2014

joeannie ( ) posted Tue, 28 April 2015 at 2:55 PM · edited Fri, 22 November 2024 at 4:33 AM

Started with Poser back in 2007, so was first a Aiko3 snob, who eventually warmed up to Aiko4 by her 2nd birthday. Aiko5 had promise, but was abandoned too fast for Aiko6 (with beady little rat-eyes!) The last week I have been experimenting with the new G2F Callie 6 imported by DSON to PoserPro 2014. Enough stuff works flawlessly, that I am intrigued. There are bugs - like some DAZ products who's PoserCF PZ2 MAT files don't work with DSON, but that is a different issue.

The main problem I have is the DAZ skin MATs imported by DSON all render too dark in PP14. Now I have no objection to rendering the ocasional sexy-gal from Mumbai India (raow, she is kind of hot!), but does someone know of a G2F skin MAT suitable for use in PP14, with the UV maps of A6, G6, or Callie 6. I haven't tried a Dolly MAT, but I don't want to buy something which is no improvement. Given all the new Renderosity 'gals' for G2F, I'd think someone has put out a MAT set optimized for Poser, not DS. I've browsed the marketPlace, but these all tend to stress the DS support, largely ignoring the DSON support beyond a "Supports DSON to Poser" comment.

Here is an example, with Callie 6 (stock DAZ skin) on left and my common Aiko4 on the right:

You would need to replace the skin shaders more suitable for PP2014.  For this, my best suggestion is to use Snarly's EZSkin2 or EZMat to strip out and replace the G2F nodes.  Other adjustments for rendering will include the use of Gamma, IDL and environmental, ambient lighting.

Does the default Genny2 female texture render like that for you?

Unfortunately I don't seem to have any of the textures you have;:D  Here is  a render in PP2014 of the default Genny2 base female (Bree material).  The right side of the render (the viewer's right!) is the stock shader, and left is with EZskin2

EZSkin2 can be downloaded here; it's free... :)

PS, EZskin works on most all of your Poser figures, including Aiko 4.  I've even set it up to work on the Mil Horse... :)

I got Callie 6 to use in DS, but have now installed it in PP2014.

Callie will have brown skin texture unless you use IDL.  I tried standard lights at max, but still dark skin, even after using EZskin

Interestingly enough, this is NOT a DS issue ... here is my image using the stock Matilda Aiko4 skin MAT published back in 2008. Notice that the dark-defect is a remarkably similar! My first image doesn't look like this because A4 is wearing the skin of Akemi, published in 2013 by SV7/Seven! Therefore, I assume someone can create a skin MAT which renders well in PP14. (I don't use DS4 because I have installed, but it refuses to run ... plus I've worked with Poser for 8 years now)

And I don't have that :-}. I tried to load the EZSkin, copied the files into 4 different /Runtime/Python/poserScripts/ScriptsMenu locations, including the direct "Poser Pro 2014 Content", but it still doesn't show up in my PP2014 menus ... the Poser Python stuff is one of those dirty little secrets, something that created endless headache!

You should have the default texture (Bree). It comes included with the G2F Starter Essentials (and as I'm sure you're aware, you'd need both the main and the PoserCF for it installed).

/edit
It's tucked away in Runtime:Libraries:materials:DAZ Genesis 2 Female.

As for installing EzSkin, make sure it's in the program's installation Runtime. You'll need to import the CFGs for the figures, but G2F isn't there by default. Here's a CFG I made for Genesis2 figures. http://www.sharecg.com/v/76466/view/11/Poser/EzSkin2-definitions-for-Genesis2-Figures

Okay, I put the EzSkin in both the c:program Files & c:program Files (x86), and it was slight improvement - C6 looks more tan than ethnic. I found your sharecg defs helpful - may thanks.

As for Bree, I found her thanks to your pointer, but PP2014 complains the MAT zones don't exist when applied to C6; as I'm new to handling G2F in poser, I've no comment on that warning.

I am still holding out hope that a vendor in the 'skin business' making V4/A4 mats for Poser & also G2F has a product which is optimized for use on DSON imports.

DSON actually works better than I'd expected; my early experiments were faulty in that i didn't realize DAZ moved all the morph/pose dials to the body. So when I first imported an A6 last year, her 'HEAD' has zero pose settings - no mouth_open, etc, and though that was half-baked. Now I see it's all in the body, plus the resulting pzz/pmd are like 10% the size of the A4 equivalent, which has to be good. Plus it is cool to have the clothing follow the body during clothing so well - with A4 I always need to adjust the hips.

Many skin shaders won't work well in Poser Pro and Poser 10 because of they (And  light sets too; don't get me started on lights!! :)) have hacks in them for older Poser versions that are no longer needed, and Poser now has Gamma correction.  I run EZSkin and SceneFixer on everything I bring in; if you don't want or need SubSurface Scattering for a particular scene, you can turn it off in render settings. PS. SceneFixer is here

EDIT; I looked at the Callie 6 promos at DAZ, and interestingly, in the i-Ray renders she looks more tan than in the conventional Studio renders...

Have you installed the latest Service Release for Poser?

Also, for Aiko 4 and clothes fitting her hips, are you magnetizing the clothing to her?  The Magnetize Poses are in a folder in the DAZ's Victoria 4 folder of the Pose Library

There is a UV difference between the original Callie 6 and the Bree character (V6?) which is mismatched in both DAZStudio and Poser. To further complicate issues, G2F has uniquely named material zones which are not recognized in Poser if the V4 type material zones are created.  You would tediously need to copy each zone node arrangement from the G2F to the newly created conventional Mat Zones.

WandW ( ) posted Wed, 29 April 2015 at 9:58 AM · edited Wed, 29 April 2015 at 10:00 AM

Bree is the default Genesis 2 Female texture.  DSON Importer should handle the UV changes automatically. ;)

This is a shader/lighting issue...

DSON importer will handle the UV changes but they must be set and saved in DAZStudio first.  There is a Poser script @ sharecg which will convert the UV's natively.  The biggest concern is the creation of duplicate and differently named Material Zones.

joeannie ( ) posted Wed, 29 April 2015 at 11:48 AM

Thanks for all the advice!

Yah, this notion of using G2F in Poser can be a bit of a ticking time bomb! I know all the various G2F gals have different UV, but per some forum posts I have seem at daz3d.com, these are 'optimizations', meaning a V6 MAT should fit (per DAZ) a C6 CR2 just fine, however since C6 is distorted (compared to V6), some sections of the MAT will be stretched unnaturally. This won't be visible with a clean skin, but anything with freckles or marks will look ... stretched! I have seen this in V4/A4, where a simple leg position stretched the buttocks MAT badly.

The more i work with callie 6 in PPro 2014, the more I love her! :) I've sent IM to a few of the Renderosity vendors selling G2F skins. I hope one has a nice PPro native texture set I can use on G2F! Life is change. We struggle against it (like my A3 affection clouding A4 acceptance ... maybe now is G2F's time?). Admittedly, I have a huge crap-load of V4/A4 accessories, but I also had a lot of A3 back in 2009.

WandW ( ) posted Wed, 29 April 2015 at 11:51 AM · edited Wed, 29 April 2015 at 11:58 AM

Callie 6 is a Genesis 2 shape, and Bree is a Genesis 2 texture.  If there are Poser Companion files, which there are in this case, the DSON Importer handles the UV changes within a character family if you own the base character.   Thus, I can apply V6 textures to Josie 6 without issue.  However, I wouldn't be able to apply Callie 6 textures and have them work properly because I don't own her.

You do need Studio if you are trying to put a Genesis 1 texture with V5 UVs on Genesis 2.  (or a V4 texture if the V4 UVs happen to be installed.)  Now that I think about it, Bree is also the default texture for V5, albeit with Genesis1 material zones(same UV, tho'),  so perhaps that material got applied, although it is in a different folder.

Crosspost; yes, they may be distortions when applying a V6 texture to C6 but there shouldn’t be any gaps...

I did upload a 4-image scene of Coral for Callie 6 - renderosity.com 'Thank heavens for ...'

She's not so dark because I selected a lighting set (somewhat toon-ish) which doesn't cause the dark tan skin.

WandW ( ) posted Wed, 29 April 2015 at 12:04 PM

Oh OH; you got me started on Lighting! :o

For Poser Pro and Poser 10 basically, throw out all of your old light sets.  For a sunny outdoor scene, use an environment sphere with a sky map and a single infinite light for the Sun set at about 40% intensity and render with IDL, with the IDL intensity set to ~70%.

For inside scenes put point lights where there are light fixtures in the scene.

No depth mapped shadows.  Ever.

(or a V4 texture if the V4 UVs happen to be installed.)

You don't need DS to get V4 textures on G2F. The Daz product "Victoria 4 for Genesis 2 Female" comes with PoserCF. Use that to switch G2F to V4 UVs.

For the textures, use Dimension3D's (free) script to create copies of texture presets with the G2F mat zone names. It's in the DS section of his site, but there are both DS and Poser scripts in the download. It will batch process an entire folder (not subfolders), and create a copy of the preset prepended with G2. Textures do NOT need to be in DUF format for G2F as spewed all over the Daz forums. As long as the mat zone names are converted (as this script does), Poser mats will work just  fine.

Np! I use it a ton in Poser. I remembered Blackfeather's DS script that renames G2F/G2M's surfaces so I've been messing with that today. You can slap whatever V4/M4 textures on w/o any texture conversion- again, no DUF's required. :D UVs are still required, though. For DS this is the easier option.

Here's a link to BF's script: http://www.sharecg.com/v/70109/browse/8/Script/Genesis1-surfaces-for-G2F-and-vice-versa

I don't know about an actual cr2 created in DAZ, never tried, but if you save it as a duf scene and import it into Poser using D3D's DSONLoader, it should work just as well.  That is my only workaround attaching the DAZ genitalia for importation into Poser.

I don't see why not. You'd have to redo it every time you add a new morph though as it would only save the morphs currently in the data folder.

Thanks for all the advice. I'm still using some old 2008 IBL's, so bought a simple new one from a big name vendor here at Rendo published in 2014; result was subtly different, skin a bit shinier, but the darkness of the stock C6 mat didn't change. At the moment the only light set I have with a dome is an outdoor set, and scenes (even Callie 6's skin) look bright - as if outdoor. I should probably follow up on WandW's suggestion though.

However, I did get the Yannek's "Fusion Skin Texture for Callie 6" from DAZ, which shows a disproportionate difference. Given the promo text for "Fusion" is little more than "Hey, here's another skin for Callie 6 you can buy", I wonder if it was actually made for use in Poser?

  • Upper left: DAZ 3D's promo for Callie 6

  • Lower left: DAZ 3D's promo for Fusion Skins

  • Upper right: Callie 6 in PoserPRO 2014

  • Lower right: C6 Fusion skin in PoserPRO 2014

file_fc221309746013ac554571fbd180e1c8.pn

I guess (to me) this clearly shows how the skin is bundled matters. In DS, the Fusion skin almost looks a little darker than the base skin, yet is much lighter in Poser. I'll eventually get the "Victoria 4 for Genesis 2 Female" module, but DAZ (so far) is not discounting.

Sorry if I missed it, but I didn't see any mention of the HSV controls in EZSkin.(Skin tab, top group of controls)

Did you find them? Use them?

Here are three figures in the same scene, so lighting is identical. They have identical textures, but different HSV settings in EZSkin. (The middle is as-is, left and right have been adjusted)

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

joeannie ( ) posted Sat, 02 May 2015 at 9:57 AM

Thanks Bagginbill - I'll lok at that harder. I tried EZSkin, but since I didn't understand the jargon, I was just using a G2F-in-Poser config set someone uploaded at ShareCG ... which might explain why I didn't see any change :).

I have been working more with the poser MAT room and clothes props, but so far people have too many material zones to make it enticing. What you show in the above snap-shot is interesting,as subtle shifts would be useful in various scenes based on mood.
