Subject: How to Make V4 Short?

morphious ( ) posted Mon, 27 April 2015 at 11:22 AM · edited Thu, 28 November 2024 at 10:16 PM

Trying to get Vic 4 to be shorter. Like 4'3" I know the legs can be shortened but no help. I know I can change the overall Scale, but no help. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks. I appreciate.

I don't know for V4, but, cannot you use the scale dial in the body part?

I am assuming you want 4' 3" according to Poser's current measurement system, where V4 normally stands 6' 3". Is that what you mean? (where one PNU = 103.2 inches)

(I don't need to buy anything to do this - just unhide scale dials)

You really want an adult female that short? Or did you mean a child?

Or perhaps you mean the old measurement system where 1 PNU is 96 inches. Under that system, V4 is deemed to be around 5' 9" or 5'10".

This is important stuff here.  Is there a master guide to give V4 more realistic heights?  We can deal with girths at some other time. I'd like to see a range of 5'2" to 5'11" as that seems to be the normal range for modern women throughout the world.

my question is, how do you know how much to shrink each body part. I know BB gave %s for 5'10" to 4'3" (thank you BB) but what if we wanted to do a different height? The few figures I've resized, I found pictures of people on line who are supposedly that height and put them on a plane  and scaled it up to the height I want to use as a reference. Is there a better way?

I just use a combination of the petite & short morphs that come with Stephanie Petite 4 and the Sizing Apparatus.  The sizing apparatus can adjust to either the Poser 5/DS scale or the Poser 6 scale.

Latexluv ( ) posted Mon, 27 April 2015 at 7:43 PM

I have been meaning to ask about this very thing.  I'm working on characters that come from a friend novel and one of them was inspired by Linda Hunt who is 4'9" tall. I haven't even tried to work on that Poser figure because I had no clue how to scale V4 to anything close to that size, nor how to get clothing to then fit the character.

There is also Shape of Woman by Lyrra over at DAZ and Rocketship3D's Universal Sizing Apparatus sold here in RMP.  The former is a set of sizing poses for V4.  The latter has one for women and one for men.  The Universal Sizing App can be used on any Poser figure.

Shape of a Woman has some problems with distortion in the shoulder and thigh actors; I'm not sure if it's due to scaling or V4's magnets.

I suspect the latter in the case of the thigh, as it doesn't happen with Shape of a Man, although there is a still a lesser issue with the shoulder actor...

Boobs and collars have no impact on getting the figure to 4' 3" so I didn't change those.

No. I was playing with it yesterday. It's incomplete because

  1. figure part names need lots of extensions to work with all figures . Remember how ezskin had to use xml configure files? I need to apply something similar to work beyond just the couple of figures I tried.

  2. Some figures have extra parts the script doesn't anticipate. For example, waist.

  3. It has to do some background watching and sometimes it's reacting to you selecting clothing or hair and it goes nuts when those figures don't have any legs, etc.

  4. I have not yet figured out how to save a scaling pose and without that and a few other features, I fear the necessary  customer service would be overwhelming.

  5. I need to write a custom control for dealing with the sliders. The default behavior of responding to the mouse wheel is backwards and too coarse.

I am curious why DAZ removed or hid the X, Y, Z scale dials from their figures? I used them all the time in the Mil2 figures for this kind of sizing and tweaking.

I read here Bagins Bill said something about unhiding scale dials. Is it because there Is distortion when using those dials on separate body parts?

How does one turn them om....never could figure it out.

pikesPit ( ) posted Fri, 01 May 2015 at 1:41 PM

@ shante:
In the Parameters Pallette, click on the tiny white "right-pointing" triangle top right on the pallette; click "Show hidden parameters" from the drop down menu.
There you are.

shante ( ) posted Fri, 01 May 2015 at 4:53 PM

done that but not seeing it in neither P7 nor PP2014.

clicked on body part and looked in parameter column where all the dials are and none the right pointing arrows show adjustments for hidden parameters.

what version are you working with?

Now this is strange...
I'm using PP2014 SR 3.2, since you asked, and that "Show Hidden Parameters" option worked in all SRs. Funny.
I know that I might sound like a SM "Customer Support" dud right now, who always tells you the standard reply:
"uninstall/reinstall Poser"...
But sometimes it's the only way if Poser screwed up.

I had a funny issue when in the "Render Settings" box all the buttons below (OK, ABORT, etc.) were gone, nada, nichego.
They returned only after a fresh intall of Poser. Doh!

shante ( ) posted Fri, 01 May 2015 at 6:24 PM

been using both versions for a while w/o problems 9except for my own bran atrophy of course as many have come to know about me!)  though not sure i got the newest SR release version. Though saw a post about it at deviantart site but too lazy to run it down...oh no, i remember, it wanted my owner info and I didn't want to stop what i was doing to get my card from my box in my other room. So, never downloaded it and thus never updated. Typical.  :(

Below the scale: X,Y,Z Dial

it says there hidden deformers and hidden morphs but no other arrow to unhide the others mentioned.

OK!!

I figured it out, woohoo!

The Parameters menu is spread across my monitor. So that the dials are arranged on the left side and because I didn't know how to compress the whole thing the white arrow(s) and other possible controls are on the far right of my monitor, and subsequently, covered by other pulled down arranged menus I use more often.

Sucks going from a 20 inch monitor to a 15inch one and more complicated going from P4 to P7 to PP2014 in so short a time I really did not get a chance to figure the differences out. Dead brain matter doesn't help.   :(

But finally found it. Thanks
