Subject: Scarlet - Is it time to jump the V4 ship?

shvrdavid ( ) posted Sat, 23 May 2015 at 8:27 PM · edited Sat, 23 May 2015 at 8:38 PM

Just for poops and giggles, lets put some facts and opinions in the thread.

Some people like the Scarlet figure, others do not. All of us can agree on that, so it must be a fact, based on opinion.

The wire frame is not symmetrical. That is a fact and we have had people say that Poser can sometimes do that to a wire frame, which is a fact.

But Scarlet's wire frame is not from Poser and that is a fact. Open up the wire frame in a text editor and read the first line. you will find "This file uses centimeters as units for non-parametric coordinates." Poser does not insert that into a obj, and will strip it out if it you export it from Poser.

There is only one program I can think of that inserts that into an OBJ on export, and that is Maya. How Poser can affect a Maya export is beyond me.

And that is an opinion based on fact, so take that however you want too.

Some of the clothes don't fit so well, that is a fact.

The character took 6 years to develop... We don't know that for a fact, and to me it does not look like 6 years of development, based on my opinion.

So with all that in mind, how about we define in the posts what is based on fact and what it based on opinion? That way people reading it can make up there own minds about Scarlet and keep the personal attacks to themselves. You can present someone with lots of facts and opinions, and in the end their decision is simply their opinion based on those. If it is different than yours, so be it.

Ummm. It's an .obj file regardless of which Modeler it came from. The line your reading in the text is a comment line which has no effect on the .obj's functionality. Also a Wireframe is a display mode, a model is commonly referred to as a mesh or, simply, model.

Facts.

Zev0 ( ) posted Sat, 23 May 2015 at 8:43 PM

Fact. Regardless of facts, the figure is not symmetrical:)

Zev0 ( ) posted Sat, 23 May 2015 at 8:52 PM · edited Sat, 23 May 2015 at 9:00 PM

Fact. I do a lot of modelling. Does that really matter when spotting issues on a mesh? One can drive a car without a license, doesn't mean you don't know how to drive:)

FYI. This isn't about rubbing other peoples work. This is about backing up claims that were made which we expected to see. I hate being lied to.

I have very little incentive to do Poser content. What little I do is always given freely to the community anyway.

There is no need to make a better figure than Scarlet or V4 for that matter. There is Genesis which was created by a team of professionals and is intrinsically linked with the DS software platforms development which provides native program based support for the figure. There is no need to reinvent the bicycle when I drive a car. Though it would be good to see Smith Micro recognise that this industry is partly driven by figure development and to at least give the Poser community some life support.

Opinions ;)

Ask yourself what is it that you just added to the discussion about Scarlet? Where is the nonsense emanating from do you think?

Sometimes the Poser forums here remind me of a bar on the side of town where layoffs were thick. Where there used to be happy folk sharing community, there now is just an emptiness and a lurking sense of violence just below the surface. People drink from darkened corners with shifty eyes ready to launch into a "whaddya lookin at" attack on anyone that stumbles to far there way. The publican doesn't bother to sweep out anymore, who really cares anyway. While that crazy guy that's always there occasionally mutters and screams out some random profanity.

Well maybe not quite that bad but you know what I mean.

DeathMetalDesk ( ) posted Sat, 23 May 2015 at 10:12 PM · edited Sat, 23 May 2015 at 10:15 PM

I do know what you mean, razor. You are actually not such a bad sort and you've made some interesting observations in discussions other than this. Shvrdavid can be a little irritating with his self aggrandizement, although he's a veteran member of the community. Zero used to be a friendly and active forum member but as soon as he or she gleaned enough knowledge here he/she(Lol) became a vendor and now only shows up in a Daz troll capacity. Usually to double team someone with male media or whatever that troll's name is. I've been watching what goes on here for quite a while.

Well there's an old saying "Don't feed the Troll." If it's believed that's someone's intention is just to stir trouble why not just ignore them? Seems for as many trolls here there are just as many troll feeders, which are just as much, if not more of a problem. Also just labelling anyone who thinks differently or isn't a fully sworn in card carrying member of the Poser club as an unwanted intruder, is never a policy that fosters strength in community. Community is about inclusiveness not division. There is a pretty well spread out diversity of trolls here on both sides of the DS/Poser demarcation, it's not just one sided as some would have you believe.

It's tiring hearing a well thought out systematic critique of something just to have someone retort saying "Don't be a hater, what is with you haters. We don't want your hate here." I mean in this thread I have asked numerous time what are the positives with Scarlet, do I get clear and well structured response? Or do I get venom and acid spat in my face for just being brave enough to step foot in here. If this Poser community wants to see some respect it needs to give a little too. A cornered wounded animal will bite anything, even a hand that is reaching out to help and heal it. Eventually that trait will be ultimately what leads to its demise. With some wounded animals the kindest thing that can be done is to euthanize it rather than risk oneself trying to help it.

DeathMetalDesk ( ) posted Sat, 23 May 2015 at 11:24 PM · edited Sat, 23 May 2015 at 11:26 PM

@ rorrkonn,

Yeah I would... but more something like nursoda, or smay, or dinoraul, or oskarsson, or chocolate, or any number of Japanese artist's make. Niche and marginalized, which is the kind of poser content I appreciate. The realistic human figure aspects of poser are boring to me. Camera's and porn sites do that kind of art better. Not that I don't own and appreciate many realistic human figures, but from an artistic stand point I think that kind of imagery is pointless and masturbatory. Just my opinion of course. Scarlet has a lot of potential, I think, once the bugs are ironed out, if they ever are. Also Scarlet is a good step forward in sixus' anatomical modeling, something that I've always been critical of, no matter what type of figure. Some things are revealed by looking at sixus' figures of any type and his sketchbooks. Fundamental weaknesses that go beyond mere stylistic flourishes and are quite ironic considering the artist's comments that drawing is an important aspect of the process. Again, a nice step forward in the artist's development regardless of the end target medium (poser). I can't model as well as Sixus in virtual 3d (yet) and I really appreciate all the stuff he's giving the community gratis. His fledgling Her figure and all the add ons are still treasured by myself (even though the figure is rudimentary and riddled with flaws).

DeathMetalDesk ( ) posted Sat, 23 May 2015 at 11:38 PM

Yes, razor, I know... you're the voice of reason. Although your wounded animal analogy is lost on me. Sounds like Poser hating to me ;). If Poser goes under so be it... Can't say I'll move over to DS. I like Carrara better in that case.

A wounded animal trusts no one and is likely to attack anyone, often for no valid reason. Seems a little like the behaviour of some of the peeps in this forum. There precious little Poser is hurt. So don't come close or ... ATTACK!!!

meh, I'm done here anyways. I'm not trying to convert or preach to anyone. I just was forced into defending myself after asking what the positives were with Scarlet. I had one constructive reply out of about 30 responses to my posts and have been called various colourful names for my trouble. Needless to say I won't be investing in Scarlet, if this is what's viewed as community support.

Keep doing what "you people" do so well.

It seems that there is a push to empty these forums of anyone, in fact this whole site is starting to a creak a little like a tired old relic. Soon all that will be left here is a group of trolls trying to roast a hobbit over a fire.

Yeah Well anyway, one thing I will admit to is shvrdavid's contributions to the weightmapping of APWM and V4WM... apologies to him for my ignorance in that respect.

As for you Razor, so it goes... I'll deal with the consequences of my pathological mood swings as I always do. I don't think this figure was ever intended to be a "killer" of anything... that's just your own personal bias clouding your vision. It's already been said ad nauseam but I'm not sure what DS biased users are doing here in the first place... I don't have such a bias either way. I suppose the fact that this is one of the only forums that allows such contention to reach It's peculiar ugly conclusion might have something to do with it and also might explain why somebody like myself, who thinks it's all incredibly pointless, might reach a state of high agitation after tolerating the flies crawling all over the topic.

And... you've done your share of insulting too, just in a more verbose and pompous manner.

Razor42 ( ) posted Sun, 24 May 2015 at 2:49 AM · edited Sun, 24 May 2015 at 2:53 AM

Your right, this thread would have been closed long ago almost anywhere else but here. The mods here seem to be rather toothless, standing by as people tear strips from each other.

I will never understand why there is standing belief that people who use DS have no right to enter this forum. How can you just segment out a group of people for exclusion because they have a preference. Nor why Poser users feel that DS is the enemy. Have a look in the DS forums even here. You never see anyone saying you're just a Poser user how dare you step foot here on our sacred ground, begone with your trivial beliefs and questions. This is DS territory... It's funny how Poser users have had an App snobbery outlook for years and years, but now they are quick to draw the same conclusion of DS users. DS for a very long time had been seen as Poser's inferior little brother. Now that DS has grown up. I see of lot of Poser users with a sneer on their face that are happy to deride anything DAZ simply because of the state of Poser.

If a DS content creator pops his head in here he should expect a lynch mob not to be inspired and embraced. Yet I always see people crying that Poser doesn't receive enough support from content creators anymore. Poser users have held themselves up as somehow an elitist top end of the sector and now that very attitude is adding to their woes, as they won't allow DS users to be seen on even footing with them. Always dismissing them outright, generally with just personal attacks.

My bias isn't clouding anything the reason I'm bringing "Killer" into the discussion is the title of the thread "Is it time to jump the V4 ship?" implies that Scarlet is being viewed as a V4 Successor. Sixus1's own marketing shares similar undertones.

As far as me insulting anyone, have a look at my avatar I never declared to be an angel.

Wonder what ever became of ODF? Seems like anytime someone creates an elaborate free figure for Poser they end up disappearing from the community (Anton, ODF, Diogenes).

He got fed up with how hard it was to get anything done with the tools available at the time, plus working on Antonia ate up all his free time that he had meant to spend on other unpaid work. :-) (Don't mind me, just randomly trolling the Rendo forums today.)

Razor,

I've got absolutely zero against DS or it's users... I just don't care. This isn't sacred Poser territory to me at all, the main reason I even started being obnoxious is because I felt that a couple of people here were being ganged up on. What I detected as bullying behavior. If you go back over the exchanges that occurred earlier in the thread, the things that were said to Glitterati and aetherdream, and where I appeared in the thread you'll perhaps understand why I came in so hostile.
