Subject: Does poser use linear or gamma rendering?

Winterclaw ( ) posted Fri, 05 June 2015 at 2:36 PM · edited Thu, 02 January 2025 at 9:00 PM

Okay, I just learned a little bit about linear rendering (namely that it existed) and I was curious as to which form of rendering Poser uses.

WARK!

I will go out on a limb here (because your question doesn't make sense to me) and say that Poser CAN use linear workflow but it MAY not be the default setting depending on what Poser you use.

You can choose a linear workflow, this topic has been covered in these forums at length and in depth over the last 5 years. If the functionality of this site hadn't been totally messed up, a search would yield a wealth of information.

In the render settings, the switch is mislabeled, as are so many things in Poser.

In Poser, to enable Linear Workflow, you use the render setting to enable "Gamma Correction". Of course if you've been reading, GC is only the last step of linear workflow, but Poser does the whole thing. (Much to the confusion of many users, who think it's turning on just Gamma Correction and they have no idea anything is happening on the input side, or that they need to get involved in it.)

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

The default is always on in the render settings.

So I've been using all of linear workflow without knowing it.  That makes sense, but it is a little sad.
I hate to ask this, but exactly how much of poser is either mislabeled or simplified like that in a rough estimate?

What do you mean by linear rendering and linear workflow?
