I need a little help, probably mostly from the ladies on this one.  I'm watching this video by this singer named Rachel Platten called "Fight Song". The tune is really popular right now in the US, but that's not what I need help with. Near tyhe end of the video, Rachel is walking along the beach while wearing this long flowing white skirt (dress?) Anyway, I want to make a dynamic version of thedress for Roxie, but I can't get a really good look at the dress in the video. Can someone tell me what the name of that dress is, so I can look it up and get a good look at it?

I've never heard of the video, sorry.  But I'm a big fan of the flowing, gypsy "Stevie Nicks" look.  Hope you get it figured out.

 I did. It's called a maxi-skirt.

Ok ... just saw this thread ... and the video.  As far as I can see it's a crop-top camisole with a long full skirt ... gathered at the waist with elastic.  Does that help any? 

This cami has speghetti straps, the one in the video has lace ones I think. a bit wider.

This is the basic lines of a long full skirt.  If that helps.

Thanks, Boni. I've already gone ahead an made the skirt. I'm just having a hard time making it hang right on Roxie. I playing around with the skirt density right now to see if that helps.

Nice start, but regards the cloth, yup, if I recall, the density (or weight) would have a big effect on that.

 ... BTW, regards the dress again, the problem might be that you've modeled too much default folds into it, too much mesh shape if that makes sense.

I didn't really model any folds in it. I was going to let Blender handle a lot of the draping but I couldn't figure out what was keeping the cloth so far away from the collision object, e.g. Roxie.

Yeah, but if I can't figure out why the cloth object is being repelled so far from Roxie, it doesn't matter and won't work.

I'm not sure what you mean, what doesn't matter? ... You dropped it?

Anyway, what I was going to say is, as the waist is tight up to her body before the drape and too far from it afterwards, you might have accidentally scaled it after a previous drape and created an unwanted scaling keyframe.  Check that you haven't accidentally added a ketyframe for the scaling of the skirt somewhere along the timeline, and if you have, delete it, go back to the first frame on the timeline, then ensure the waist is as tight as you want it before you drape it again.

eclark, did you check your minimum distance on your cloth? Maybe that got off.

As far as I can tell everything was fine. I tried to change several of the collision offset settings but it didn't seem to have any effect.

 Just a suggestion, try to drape it in Poser first, then bring it back into Blender...

 I just double checked what you posted, and I am thinking that maybe you don't have enough geometry to allow it to drape like that skirt above...

It's not the drape I'm concerned about, it's the fit about the waist.

I appreciate the offer, but this is an effort to make my own dress.

With the fit ... can you bring it into the fitting room and shrink-wrap it a bit?  I may be off here, as I have never done this, it just came to mind.
