Subject: Anyone know if Victoria 7 will be able to be used in Poser?

marciz ( ) posted Wed, 01 July 2015 at 8:03 PM · edited Wed, 20 November 2024 at 12:32 PM

I ask this because I just found out there even is a V7.

Heck, I bought V5 when it came out, and STILL can't figure out how to install her.

I managed to install the DSON importer into my Poser 9 installation, but that's as far as I got.

Good old V4.2 had it's own installer...and this Genesis stuff has me baffled.

So anyway, If you'd like, just answer my original question.
If you're feeling generous, any help, links, whatever to get V5 installed in Poser. (9).
I've read the tutorials on DAZ, so that didn't help much, as I got lost in the nomenclature.

Thanks.

ATM, no.  And unless there are scripts to completely convert G3F to Poser without rigging problems, you will most likely not see V7 anytime soon.  Facial expressions are completely controlled by bones which work well in DAZStudio but do not translate to Poser.  But don't get me wrong, some individuals have managed to import V7, however, given your skill level, I would stick to V4 for the mean time.

As for installing V5 and using her in Poser, take a look at this link and see if you can follow it's instructions:

https://helpdaz.zendesk.com/entries/22808599-Installing-DSON-Importer-Plugin-and-Content-with-Install-Manager

You will need the DAZ Install Manager (DIM) to simplify content installation and I highly recommend getting and using it for any DAZ related produce.

V7 does not currently work in Poser.

According to DAZ's web site, V5 works with DSON...

You'll need to find the CF (companion files) version of V5 and install her to your Poser runtime.

Good luck!

well, that seems to be helpful, thankyou!
the info in daz's ad for V7 seemed to suggest "cross platform" integration...hmmm....
I do have a somewhat earlier version of DAZ studio, and could likely get the newest...but whoa, it took a few years just to learn Poser...and that's where all my investments went.

So thanks again for the info, I'll check the link later, hborre.  And I'd still like to try and use V5 donnena, I paid full price for it!

Do check the link and access how much you understand the setup.  If stuck, post again with a thorough explanation where the installation is tripping you.  Don't hesitate to include images if necessary.  Sometimes being descriptive is not as clear as your intend.

And that has been the problem with someone from DAZ trying to explain to me how to install...as well.

Thanks, will do.  :)

Try this tutorial for PP2015 by Midnight Stories. It works but only  trouble is you got to transfer everything, hair, clothing that way :)

Thankyou amaranth.  It's too bad I've been too busy to check out everyone's helpful comments.

hope to get there soon, and thanks again.  If it doesn't work, I'll be back sure enough.  :)

I'm back...the computer I'm using Poser 9 on, I am purposely keeping OFF the internet.

hborre, that would seem to complicate my installation.

I have already installed "DSON_Importer_for_Poser_1.1.0.18_Win32.exe"

I do not recall if I installed DAZ install manager...I have that .exe file as well.  Due to how it's titled, I may have thought it was something only used for DAZ studio.

I've included a screenshot of what, I expect, is content.

file_a5e00132373a7031000fd987a3c9f87b.jp
I also have (stored) "Genesis Starter essentials Poser CF".

After looking at "https://helpdaz.zendesk.com/entries/22808599-Installing-DSON-Importer-Plugin-and-Content-with-Install-Manager", the first thing that came to mind was to include this fact I've mentioned, that that computer is not on the internet.
The computer itself, and the creativity I do on it are too valuable to me to risk damage via internet.  I have a previous WinXP computer that I've had since '05, still works, and never had on the internet, with very few problems.

Should I try to install this DAZ install manager?

I never have a problem installing anything I buy; and in fact I always to a manual install, never through the Poser content installer.
(possibly complications arise because it's not on the internet.)

Thanks.

M.

P.S. I have a separate computer for internet.  (the one not connected is using Win8).

Where connectivity is concerned, DIM will alert you when updates and upgrades are available.  These are not announced, and limited internet access will not compromise your computer if firewalls, malware and antivirus programs are running and signatures are current.

marciz ( ) posted Tue, 14 July 2015 at 7:06 PM

I will not put that computer online at all, and if I recall correctly, the helper from DAZ said it doesn't need to be connected.  I think.

Make sure it's the newest version of DSON. I've had troubles because I didn't realize DSON had been updated. Also, thank you Amaranth, I was just about to point out the Midnight Stories tutorial (and thank you to him for creating one and for all who've helped figure out the importing).

Good to know kazam, thankyou

marciz ( ) posted Sun, 19 July 2015 at 4:11 PM

By its very name, the DAZ install manager suggests to me some sort of process that connects you with their downloads...

so I still don't know if I need it.

DSON doesn't connect to the web. Their down load manager content installer (DIM is the initial for the installer) however does and runs a service in the background. While Daz swears it doesn't collect data on users, I prefer to be given the choice what services run on my pc, as well as when they run. Had it been only during an install I wouldn't have felt bad. To run all the time is to use up memory (yes even in idle) which isn't necessary.

Edited to add the following

DSON is a python script which I believe Dimension3d worked on as well as some RDNA members to get Genesis content to load (.duf files) properly in Poser. The D/S .duf files have items in different locations as well as a different format for material files (which the python script converts temporarily to Poser material files).

Also you need to download the free Genesis 3 Starter Essentials which is already in your Product Library (on their website). Their content manager will make the download and install easier (because it puts the files where they need to go) whereas download the zip file manually means loading the runtime (data, and people folder) manually (which we all do for most content anyway). D/S uses the data and people folder, as well as runtime. The DSON python script will look through all of these to try to load the proper files.

Ah, thank you very much.  I may have to wait until next weekend to try this, but thanks again!  (And to everyone.)

I think you're thinking of the old database that loaded as a service, this has been changed.
The DIM only checks for updates when its run.

You are introducing an extra complication by not being connected but it's not a deal breaker.

Some people have DIM (set to download ON, install OFF) on a connected machine where they can get notices and download the updates and packages.

You transfer those packages to the unconnected machine (where the DIM is set to download OFF, install ON) and DIM will install the package as usual.

V5 does work, along with Genesis 2. There are some excellent youtube tutorials on where to install (and check your install) on G2. Working with the G2/V5 in poser isn't fast, but it works much better than when DSON first came out. Oh, on G3, without the morph packages (which also works in Poser via DSON) kind of looks like Poser's default G2's. It's a little shocking. That is without any body, face, or expression morph packages installed (too expensive for me to purchase and dabble with for the time being).

Edited to add
Poser default G2 I mean Miki 3, Ryan, etc.

If you want V5/6 running in Poser it is very simple. I posted this on another board a year ago but it seems the confusion around this has yet to clear.
To get Genesis 2 M/F working in Poser you need the following from DAZ. All are free.

DSON Importer for Poser
Genesis2Female Starter Essentials
Genesis2Female Starter Essentials PoserCF
Genesis2Male Starter Essentials
Genesis2Male Starter Essentials PoserCF

Optional but a good idea. Again free.

Genesis2 DMC
Templates Genesis2Male and Genesis2Female

Good, now we can start.

  1. Run the DSON Importer. It asks for the location of Poser. Mine asked for PP2012 but I have an old DSON file. The newest one may ask for PP2014. Point it to Poser. Poser is located in "YourDriveLetter/ProgramFiles/Smith Micro". You may need Administrator priviledges to do this.

  2. Go to where your Runtimes live. Usually My Documents or Public Documents. Make a new folder. I called mine "Genesis Stuff". Use whatever name you want.

  3. Unzip the Genesis2Female Started Essentials into the new "Genesis Stuff" folder you've made. Inside you will find a Content folder and 2 dsx files. Open the Content folder and you will find a bunch more folders inside. Select everything and copy/paste it up one level. In other words copy and paste all these folders to your "Genesis Stuff" folder. Right next to the Content folder you copied everything from in the first place.

  4. Delete the Content folder you took everything from. Now do the same for the PoserCF file. Unzip and copy everything from Content up one level to "Genesis Stuff" and delete the Content folder.

  5. Open Poser and add a new Runtime. When Poser asks you to find this new Runtime point it to your "Genesis Stuff" folder.

Congrats. You now have Genesis2Female working in Poser. Do the same with the G2Male or any other DAZ product you buy. Select everything in the Content folder of the ZIP and move it up one level.

There is a lag in Poser as the DSON script is called almost every mouse click you make but it is acceptable.

If you send your Poser scenes to Vue for environment and/or render you need to read the original thread on PFD. Registration required.
