Subject: Change multiple shaders at same time

headwax. ( ) posted Sat, 04 July 2015 at 5:36 PM · edited Mon, 21 October 2024 at 1:11 AM

Hi, asked this elsewhere and no joy so I thought I would ask in a place where the intelligent people hang out ...... ;)

Is there anyway of changing multiple shaders at the same time ? I would like to take all the existing shaders in an existing scene and change some shader parameters in them with one fell swoop.

I have a vague idea of the use of a reference shader but that would mean changing all the shaders to access that reference shader?

More detailed: I would like to take the shader textures and add an operator , new source 2 and specify the blender .

I could save the scene with internal shaders, then save the scene with external shaders so all the textures are in one folder, then batch process them in photoshop, but I hoped there was a easier way.

thanks for any answers ;)

Yes, well its an addon by Fenric.  Its called the Multi-Shader Editor.  http://fenric.com/wordpress/store/products/multi-shader-editor/ is the direct page, its also part of a bundle at Daz as well callled Shader Power tools.  I have a lot of Fenrics addons and they are real time savers.    Here is a list of many of them http://fenric.com/wordpress/store/products/category/carrara-plugins/  there are packages at Daz that may have others, or they may be bundled.  Hope that helps.  there is Advanced Shader Tweeker as well from him.

thanks for the quick answer,

Fenric is unreal, I have most of his plugins

but I havnt been able to get that plugin to do exactly what I want, which would be to keep the present shaders but add an operator to them and a particlular source 2 input.

If you can give me a step by step that would be grande !

Well since I hadn't used it I spoke too soon, realizing what you are trying to do.  I Would write Fenric on his website or Daz PM explaining you don't want to just replace the whole say Color shader as it does now.  He may have a solution. :/ sorry I pulled the trigger without fully understanding what you were asking for :/

Hey thanks! No need to apologise! Fenric has made some plugins at my suggestion before, he is top notch, but I think he is not so happy now to do them because the financial reward has been minimal and daz has not been easy to deal with. I use Fenric plugins so often, they make my life so much easier. The one that adapts poser shaders, the step through the instances list, and the shader tweaker where you can change saturation and colour balance on a texture..... They are wonderous.

I always buy Fenric's stuff, even if I don't currently need it. I always eventually end up using it.

yes, that's a great idea, I wish he would make more
