Hi,

We recently burned lots of ca files to dvd for archiving purposes, however need to access the data. The person who burned the discs, only had a +R format dvd burner, but burned them to a -R disc. We can get at the files from the disc, however when we try to open the files it states that is is an invalid format. We are using autocad 2006. I suspect that maybe the burning process has possibly corrupted the files. Is there any way of recovering these corrupted files, or is there any viewers available that i can try and download and see if its just the wrong file type for cad (the drawings are all.dwg files though). Weve tried restoring from the.bak files and through the recovery process in autocad with no success.

If their free software can't do it, I'd contact them to ask if they have a tool that can or a technique they can tell you about.

It is my perception that the OP is spam related, not your efforts to help.

Yep, posts like this get started all the time, and usually, they are followed up by another user who just joined the website yesterday, and have never posted to the forum before, but have an answer to the most obscure question.  The answer is usually either a link to some spam website with a product for sale that solves the issue, or the replying author has a link in their signature that leads to some spam website.  That's why questions such as this are usually considered suspect, especially if the author has never posted here before.

Point proven, in the Photoshop thread.  And the Corel Draw thread.  They don't even know enough to post their spam in the proper forums! People, don't waste your energy trying to "help" these off-topic, obscure questions by usernames that have never posted before.  You're just opening a big ol can of spam.

There are several methods how to try to open a corrupted AutoCAD drawing file.

• Use the Recover command

• Open the file and press ESC key just before Regeneration/Error message, save to DXF, load, save as DWG, Audit

• Insert the complaining DWG as a block into an empty drawing

• Open/save the DWG in an older version of AutoCAD or AutoCAD LT or Actrix
