Subject: 3D Modeling Forum Roll Call

LuxXeon ( ) posted Thu, 30 July 2015 at 12:09 AM · edited Sun, 24 November 2024 at 3:57 AM

Hey, everyone.  With this thread, I'd like for us  to take a moment and introduce ourselves to each other, and get a feel for who visits or views the 3d Modeling forum here on Renderosity.  If you are a 3d modeler, or simply have an interest in learning 3d modeling, please take a few seconds and post to this thread.  Even if you normally lurk, but never post, please consider simply saying hi, so we can get an idea of who has interest in this forum, and how many of us there are.  Regardless of which software package you prefer, or if you model professionally, or as a hobbyist; or just have an interest in learning, this thread is simply a roll call to see where we stand as a forum.  Just a simple "here" is fine.

Thanks!

Larry G (Sadsaytr), at present, very much of a hobbyist. I'm working on learning more, as in sketching, coloring, and getting perspective right. I have ideas, mostly creatures at this point and a two headed guy. I am mostly a lurker, but do answer technical questions.

Hello.  I model Japanese Visual kei Rock musician Hairstyles using Shade3D's Hair Salon.  I generate anime-style BJD figures using Terawell's Design-Doll software, and rig them in Blender and Poser Pro 2014.  I also use MakeHuman to generate bipedal humanoids, and rig in Blender or Poser.  I also model from scratch in Sketchup Make, Blender, Shade3D, Sculptris, and sometimes Hexagon and metasequoia.  Recently, I am interested in the currently fashionable (in Japan) 2.5D style of creating anime 2D cel rendered scenes with 3D content, using software such as Live2D and so on.

I will face my fear.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.

A full time professional graphic artist and photographer working for a small (but fun!) section of the (stupid) government.  I've played with Poser/Daz3D since their inception and now use them to make small animations for work related training.  I model in Blender.

Having burnt out of gaming, I've been making 3D 'stuff' to satisfy my weird, strange, perverted, bizarre, sick, twisted and just plain messed up fetishes.  I'd like. no LOVE to make formal clothing (think back to the late 80's and those ridiculously ornate wedding gowns) for Poser and Daz3D.  I started a tutorial a while back but was chased out of the forums by a (many, many expletives and derogatory personal comments deleted).  I'd like to (tentatively and hesitantly) again try to engage interested forum members to collaborate on a comprehensive tutorial on content creation...all of it.  I know of a professional technical writer on the forum who can help with the editing.  All we need is folks who've figured out various parts and put it all together.

Anyone game?

Here!  And may I say really glad to see someone taking the reigns in this forum finally.  I'm sure we have a lot of eyes on this forum, which we will hopefully see by the numbers in this thread, but people just don't post for some reason.  Maybe with some direction and leadership, this forum can fulfill its potential, and become a great resource for modellers, or aspiring modellers of all kinds!

At the risk of derailing the thread......RUN!...Run hard and fast away from the evil known as computer gaming.  I was a hard core FPS'er from Doom and Castle Wolfenstein and the Holy One known as Duke Nukem and then got sucked into the Half Life world.  I even made mods for a bit.  I still hold Gabe Newell solely responsible for killing my passion for games by refusing to release Episode III of HL2.  I fondly remember those lonely drives along the beach listening to the water lap on the shore....the headcrabs burrowing out of the sand,  the oh so satisfying 'Crack!' and punch in the shoulder as my shotgun blew a zombie's brains all over the wall.  Gosh, sometimes I long for those simpler times.  sigh

Here!  I pop in here to see what's new at least once a week, but now that I see you took it over, I'll check on it more often.  I'm a novice 3d modeler, with focus now on learning Blender.  I'm very intersted in someday being able to model my own props and environments.  I've actually followed your tutorials, and made my first complete model thanks to you (luxxeon).  Looking forward to learning more.

I'm going to try and get the 'Let's make a comprehensive guide to content creation' ball rolling with this... http://www.renderosity.com/mod/freestuff/?item_id=75531   It's a short guide to sizing in Blender for Daz3D because we all know that size matters....all right, go ahead and make all the jokes...get it out of your system.  I started on a 'placer' to kick off my line of cemetery/funeral items.  This is the gizmo that sites over a gravesite and when operated, lowers the coffin into the grave.  I'm making straps and will make a morph(s) that will lower the straps and the coffin into the grave. I learned a lot while making this thing, not the least of which was aligning stuff.  Blender has an overwhelming number of tutorials available (unlike Daz3D) and it's easy to 'Google away' any problems.

kljpmsd, this looks like it will be interesting, but if you don't mind, please post this to it's own thread.  I'd like to maintain this thread as a rollcall thread only, so we can get a rough overview of who's interested in this forum, and who actually visits us here.  No one posting to this thread will be contacted in any way for any sort of advertisement, it's just a non-official means of judging interest.  Making posts that could prompt long lineage of replies or questions may disrupt that objective, and make for confusion.  It would also benefit you more if it were posted to it's own thread anyway.

Thanks!

Sporadically here. Every now and then, get some time to look at forums and such, although work and other stuff takes almost all my time. Work primarily in Blender to create content for Poser 2014, have worked in Silo (very little, due to crashing) and Hex (even less, due to even more crashing). Can't afford the really big programmes like max and maya and modo... Blender's coming along nicely, though, and more than suits my needs at present.

Welcome, heddheld.  Definitely come back to this forum more often, we've been doing our best to make it more active and useful.  I'd say the past year or so, there have been new threads posted, and lots of great information exchanged here.  Thanks for letting us know you're interested!  Hope to see you participate in threads as well.

Welcome, VolcanicMink! If you have any modeling questions, or wanna discuss anything 3d modeling related, please don't hesitate to jump in and make posts here, as you've already done. We are typically a quiet corner of the community on Renderosity, but there's a lot of highly experienced and very generous members who frequent the 3d Modeling forum here, as you'll see by just browsing through our threads. Thanks for introducing yourself!

Mostly concentrating on peculiar Poser figures at the moment, but I've got a ton of projects in various states of undress languishing on my archaic computer. Barring some disaster I'll get them out there (and RL disaster is a distinct possibility). I've grown nauseous of the Poser forum frankly, is this where the big kids hang out?

Thanks for joining in, and welcome to the 3d modeling forum. As the name suggests, we focus on anything and everything to do with modeling. Typically, the conversations are about polygonal modeling, but sculpting and NURBS modeling discussion and questions are also welcome. Feel free to open a thread to talk about anything in the world of model creation, regardless of the software, and don't hesitate to jump into any topic or discussion already posted. Hope to see more of you soon!

Signed up 2009/2010 - forum died. Stayed dead for a long time. Just found her again while searching for software in Google. I began trying to learn in 2001 and hung around the Max forums (mostly Brits and one a couple of Scots ha ha) a little past the 9/11 thang. Gave up trying to wrap my head around this stuff a year later. Come 2009 I pulled it all back out again and found out it's true what they say about the subconscious memory - even if you don't understand something now still make an effort to try and learn. Everything I studied in 2001 came back to me and made sense this time.

So now five years later I am much more up to speed. My main focus are minimalist kids' illustrations. I mostly work in Curvy and Max - Can work uber fast in Ray Supreme which would be my favorite boxer if it weren't so unstable or offered an autosave feature. I've just began learning rigging and animation which is coming to me quickly. My main interest is centered around still images however.

Most complex thing I've done over the past couple of months were these:

Hamsta Gangsta.png width="200" height="200"

mole collage.png width="200" height="200"
