Subject: Wet, Wet, Wet...

Glen ( ) posted Thu, 30 July 2015 at 3:54 PM · edited Mon, 23 December 2024 at 5:24 AM

Hello folks,

I've long been interested in making stuff look wet in Poser, but I've had loads of problems with premade materials etc.

I'm wondering if anyone out there could offer a tutorial on making stuff wet, please? Some of my problems have arisen from lighting, others have arisen from material conflicts and others... I've no idea, they just... are.

As an example, the EZ Skin system isn't compatible with any wet skin material product I've used. I know it has its own version built-in, but it looks hideous (sorry, it just does).

I'm also keen on the idea of making cars, floors and all manner of other 'stuff' look wet. There's no point in having a shower scene, for example, with a lovely wet V4, good looking shower jets, puddles on the floor (Flink's Water FX) and drips etc, if the walls/windows of the shower appear bone dry.

Could we feature some high quality examples of wetness in Poser in this thread, please?

I'm running Win 10 Pro 32GB RAM Intel Core i7-4790K CPU @ 4.00GHz Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Ti

I"ve purchased several wet skin products and none of them have ever worked as advertised.  I'll be looking forward to what you find.

I'm very interested in other wet surfaces as well such as on tables, floor, ground (especially puddles).   I used to have a shader set-up for wet ground but I can't seem to find it anymore.

Doesn't EZmat have a good puddles included from shader master bagginsbill? I would check it out but I have no computer at the moment.

For some reason EZmat does not run on my PP2012.   In fact, even the built-in Wardrobe Wizard has stopped working as well and I haven't been able to find the root of the problem :(   EZSkin and all my other scripts run fine.

The puddle was a screenshot of the node set-up I think that I'm not able to find again doing a forum search.

If you are still in need of the shader when my computer returns from my guru I will get a screenshot of the puddles shader for you ... unless some kind soul beats me to it wink wink

Boni, that would be awesome!  No rush.

Thank you Jura, both very useful threads.

I still think SM should include these as basic shaders instead of the outdated P5 ones they've had for the past 10+ years.

IIRC, there's an in-depth, technical sort of, discussion on RDNA buried in the Node Cult section concerning making skin look "wet" as well as "water droplets", all using only material settings, mind you. (ie: No textures, just procedural materials.)

Not intending to push anyone that way, I just remember reading over it a long time ago and it was fascinating.

rokket ( ) posted Fri, 31 July 2015 at 7:45 AM

The easiest way to make the skin look wet is to crank up the Specular color (usually white) value way up and leave the highlight at 0. Unfortunately, skin shaders are getting more and more complex and this isn't an easy fix now. But anything Poser 7 and prior it works great.

dreamlands movie sets has some ground textures with really good puddles if you need them.

Thank you very much for the replies, folks!

I'm using a reasonable looking wet skin shader, but I seem to be having problems with it showing up adequately, which could be to do with my lighting techniques. I've tried a few different shaders and many different light setups and scenes, but the droplets never really show up very pronounced and they're pretty much completely invisible in some areas.

Here's an example of a render with Sasha. I'd really like for the droplets to be more obvious and make it look like she's completely drenched. Also, there's something slightly off about the whole shader... it doesn't quite look real enough for me, any ideas as to why?

Thanks,

Glen.
