Subject: POSER PRO 2014-Hands problem-Hands won't grasp.

Philywebrider ( ) posted Sun, 26 July 2015 at 8:41 AM · edited Thu, 28 November 2024 at 3:52 PM

I have Poser Pro-2014, on a PC with Windows 7.

I installed Poser Pro-2014

I made a seperate M4 File and installed the M4 figure,  M4 Basic and M4 ++

I opened the M4 figure in Poser Pro 2014 and added the M4  basic and M4 ++ morphs

When I started posing the figure the hands would not grasp

I tried adding the hand morphs by themselves, but the hands won't grasp

All the other morphs seem to work except for the hands

Can anyone please help?

V4 has the same problem

3DFineries ( ) posted Sun, 26 July 2015 at 9:36 AM

I think you have to install M4 & V4 directly into PP2014's runtime.  However, first check to see if the IK is marked.  If it's not, then see previous comment. ;-)  IK can cause weird things to happen if it's on.

Both M4 and V4 can be installed to external runtimes.  In the days of DAZ installers and P6/7, you either had to install to the main Poser runtime or fool the installer by copying the Poser.exe to the external runtime folder.  The likely problem is you need to initialize M4.  In the libraries folder of whatever runtime you install the figure to, you will find a folder labelled !DAZ.  Inside will be a .bat folder.  Run the bat folder to initialize.  This should fix the problems.

I forgot all about initializing..... Thanks Icprncss2.

I can't find any .Bat folder antwhere?

Philywebrider ( ) posted Thu, 30 July 2015 at 6:07 PM

BTW, My IK was not selected.

I installed M4 Basic and M4 ++morph Runtimes In the Poser Pro Runtime, It did not work.

I installed M4 Basic and M4 ++morph Runtimes In my external M$ folder Runtime, It did not work.

I tried Installing the entire CONTENT folder, that did not work.

Sorry if I seem slow on responding, but I'm slow on trying to do what is suggested.

3DFineries ( ) posted Fri, 31 July 2015 at 2:55 AM

After you reinstalled it did you get a prompt to initialize M4? If i remember correctly it should have automatic.  Also you have to install in a certain way in order for it to work. First you have to install the base and initialize it. So first M4 base and initialize. Then install Morphs plus plus, then Elite, and finally Creature Creator if you own it.  If this doesn't work, I have no idea what could be causing it.

Let me if it worked. I'll check up on this thread again tomorrow. Good luck!

PS I think the bat file is a hidden file. You'd need to set folder options of your OS to show them.

Bat file is not a hidden file.  IIRC, it is the !DAZ folder at the same level as the runtime, but I am not at my computer to verify it's exact location.  The order for installing and initializing V4/M4 morph packages, base first, initialize, install each morph package followed by initialize each time.  The initialize message only appears with the exe installers.  If you are installing from the current DAZ zips, I believe initialization is not necessary.  But don't quote me on that.

3DFineries ( ) posted Fri, 31 July 2015 at 1:40 PM

It's been so long since I've had to reinstall M4, it's hard to remember exactly what I did. Thanks for popping in to help, hborre. :)

Make sure you have only one copy of M4 on your system, or the initialization will fail.  Install the base and morph packs to the same folder

When installing from DAZ ZIPS, drag the contents of the archive'sContent folder to your runtime folder.

The .bat files for Windows and the .command files for OS X are in runtime/libraries/!DAZ ; there is one for M4 and one for his bits...

I should have perhaps stated this better; I meant drag the contents into an external runtime folder; that is, the folder containing the runtime.  Sorry if it caused any confusion...

You have extensions hidden; .bat files are "Windows Batch File" in the Type column...

I have windows 7, how do I "show extensions"?

hornet3d ( ) posted Thu, 13 August 2015 at 11:07 AM

If you place your cursor over 'type' in the screen shot you have shown you should see a drop down arrow.  Click that and it will give you a list of the files to display.

The other way that should work is to use the Organize drop down on the far left of your screen shot and select folder and search options, then view and then about six lines down check the 'show hidden files, folders and drives'.  You might like to change this back afterwards as it can folder list long.

For Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows Server 2008

  1. Start Windows Explorer, you can do this by opening up any folder.
  2. Click Organize.
  3. Click Folder and search options.
  4. Click the View tab.
  5. Scroll down until you notice Hide extensions for known file types, un-check this line by clicking the check box.
Note To hide file name extensions, check this line.
  6. Click OK

Philywebrider ( ) posted Thu, 13 August 2015 at 12:13 PM

OK, I now have the the Extensions showing "bat"

My next step is to drag the contents folder to my M4 external folder (the content folders will merge), I then run .bat?

Following the M4 basic, I'll then add the M4 morphs the same way and then run ".bat" again.?

WandW ( ) posted Thu, 13 August 2015 at 12:33 PM

I can't quite figure out exactly what you are trying to do, as the screenshot shows M4 installed, but you said you uninstalled it.

If you are using Poser, you don't drag the Content folder over, but the contents of the Content folder.

You install M4 and all of the morphs, then run the batch file.

This is why I use the free DAZ Install Manager... ;)

WandW

I'm sorry for the confusion, I'm a little confused. I had M4 and morphs installed in an external folder and it didn't work. Someone suggested it needed to be installed in PP2014's runtime so I deleted it and installed it in PP2014. That didn't work. It was suggested that M4 can be in an external folder, so I deleted it from PP2014 and added it into the M4 external folder again. Then initialize and running .bat was suggested, ( someone also suggested that I didn't need to initialize. I got a little confused about dragging the content or the content folder, I couldn't locat the .bat file, but someone told me how to unhide the file extensions, (I posted the page sample to show I couldn't find the .bat file)  so .bat showed. someone said that M4 basic had to be added first, then the morphs. Since I re-installed M4 basic and the M4 morphs were already there, I figured I needed to uninstall everything and re-install it in the correct order, so I uninstalled M4 and M4 morphs..

I'd be glad to use the DAZ installer, Will it install in a external folder?

WandW ( ) posted Thu, 13 August 2015 at 3:11 PM

OK, I think I gotcha.  :)

Install M4 and any morph packs you have into your external runtime folder, browse to the runtime/libraries/!DAZ folder and run the two batch files; there will be one for M4 and one for his bits, DzCreateExPFiles-M4.bat and DzCreateExPFiles-M4Gens.bat

You only need to run the batch files again if you install morph packs such as Elite or Ethnic shapes.

I believe the DAZ Install Manager will work on external drives, but I haven't tried it, myself...

It's a shame you can't help me with dazstudio.

WandW ( ) posted Thu, 13 August 2015 at 6:33 PM

What doesn’t work in Studio?

If it's M4, you can add the runtime you just made as a Poser content folder within Studio's Content Tab...

Hi Wanda,

I seem to have the same problem (but just for the hands).... Only the hand dials do not appear to work for M4. I have run the two .bat files and have also reset the computer, but still unable to get this dial working... What is strange is that poses from the "hand" library appear to work just fine!!! Any suggestions?

Just as an FYI, V4 character (that also has .bat files under !daz directory) works just fine.....

Thank you

Did you buy the Morphs++ pack, install it, run the .BAT file, then inject the Morphs++ morphs?

I did all those things yet I got nothing. I still don;t see the "grasp" morph wheras the M4 I see the grasp morph which doesn't work. Is something missing?

randym77 ( ) posted Mon, 09 August 2021 at 2:57 PM · edited Mon, 09 August 2021 at 2:59 PM

IIRC...seeing the morph but it not working is usually what happens if you inject the morph but haven't initialized the figure (run the BAT file). Not seeing the grasp morph at all means it hasn't been injected.

Make sure the morphs are in the same runtime as the figure. You will have to run the .BAT file again after you install any new DAZ morphs. And there's one for each DAZ figure, so you'll have to run the one for V4 and the one for M4. (M4 has two, the regular one, and one for his naughty bits, if you're planning to use those.)

V4 also has a V4V3 .BAT file. That one is for the V4V3 figure, which is V4's head on V3's body, for those who wanted to be able to use V3's clothing on V4. I doubt you'll be using that figure these days, but make sure you've run the right V4 .BAT file.

randym77 Im using Poser 11. And does it matter if the V4 is V4.2? And can you give an example of where the morphs++ should be in the runtime?

randym77 ( ) posted Mon, 09 August 2021 at 7:12 PM

V4.2 is the latest version, and is the version you should be installing.

Can you tell us how you have your runtimes set up? Do you have multiple runtimes? External or default? What is the full path of the runtime you're trying to install V4 in?

Using the DAZ install manager might be easier, if you're not familiar with how to install things in Poser.

Also, make sure you have only one copy of V4 installed. If there's multiple versions (from multiple attempts to install), it won't work.
