So I thought I'd start off this lonely little forum with the first poem I wrote in years that was inspired by a visit to the grocery store a few days ago.
It's called Beaded Chain.
I remember it was the first thing that I spied.
Upon the nameless young man with a smile shining wide.
You were struggling with your cart and moving awful slow.
Yet you had an air about you that was an amazing glow.
As I started to walk away, that's when something caught my eye.
I couldn't just keep walking cause when it flashed, I wanted to cry.
I almost didn't notice as we walked out of the store.
And wish you would have let us help you, we wanted to do more.
I asked if you wanted some help, to which you replied no.
I asked again to make sure because I wanted you to know.
I'm certain how it you got it, the crutch supporting you.
Many are not brave enough, just a chosen few.
I can't begin to imagine the sacrifices you have made,
Nor can I understand the heavy price you have paid.
I DO know that you will not be forgotten by me.
You've touched my heart in a just second you see.
To the smiling young man, I saw in the grocery store today.
If I see you again, I won't let you push my help away.
For yours is a worthy heart and has suffered through great pain.
Defending the meaning behind that silver tag dangling from a beaded chain.
Have a creative day!
