Yes, they appear very intrusive, I can only guess that they are a major reason for the change, but it is simply going to lose regular people from the site. It also seems to add a lot to load times, making the whole site less responsive (not to mention that I can't now find a lot of things such as Fav Artists, not getting ANY notifications any more...). I am hating it so far - surely not the response they were aiming for.
Really, really, really annoying those tons of adverts. First ever time I am considering using an Adblocker on any Website I am visiting regularly. Before ist was already annoying, but now it is way too much.
And about loading times: every website that takes longer than 8 seconds to load, should be redesigned.
If you use Chrome or Firefox you can use the Adblocker plugin, works nicely actually had to install it for my own sanity and I hate that stuff generally. IE and others sure there other options best bet is to do something like that. Works a charm.
Adblocker is really great. Can't live without it. ;)

Favorite Artists, Favorite Vendors & Friends have all been merged into 'Followers'. Instead of spamming people with ebots and notifications. You can now easily track all the activity of your followers from your activity feed.
The activity feed allows you to see all your followings activities in sequential order. This way you don't have to keep up with the users individually.
Even so you had to keep up with them individually and if you had 3000 favorite artists you'd receive one ebot for each upload. So therefore, for some users the inbox clutter would actually limit their site activity because they might not favorite an artist because they don't want more ebots. Again, they might want ebots but just not that many.
The activity feed fixes this issue and many others.
We've had the Ebot system the 8 years I've been here and everyone screams when it's down and the one time Rendo stopped it and instilled the Notices system Members basically Boycotted the place until it was re-instituted so tell me again How Activity and Notices is Better.....I don't buy it but then again it's not being sold to us it's being pushed on us.

True, I wondered why I couldn't turn off the gallery ebots before, I actually prefer an onsite feed. But others may want ebots. Would it be very difficult to make it optional and let the user set their own ebot preferences, per item/person? + a global setting to toggle all gallery ebots on and off...

@Frequency good - This is easy to do if you are only referring to one section of the site, however the functionality that Lenord is referring too is site-wide. Therefore, you'd really have to have an entire page to customize ebot notifications. You'd have to have a section for the marketplace, one for the galleries, etc. Then some users might want ebots for specific actions within a section, for example some users might want ebots on uploads, some might want ebots on favorites and things really would get complex. Again, while this might be fine for users who are familiar to our site, it would be extremely overkill for newer users who aren't so familiar with the system.
A better way to do this is to have a custom activity feed that is populated by a user's following, then each user can use the activity feed however they want which takes the complexity out of equation.
On top of all this, the ebot issue is also hardware related and slows down a lot of our backend, job type processes.
Also, instead of having to keep up with hundreds of emails the user can simply access their activity feed at any time and the data is also up to date. So if someone uploaded something then deleted it, the activity will not be displayed whereas a ebot will be inaccurate.
Activity feed positives:
Also, the 'For You' sections within the galleries and the marketplace tie into your followers generating tailored content allowing for a customizable experience.
I think its neat, personally... my mailbox was overflowing. :P I just don't like all the unhappy faces in the forums... unhappy faces = not good. Perhaps you can convince them hehe. :)

Ebots allowed you to multitask though, you don't have to be Here to check the Activity Feed to see whats going on. That's what was good about Bots, you can be somewhere else another site or even at work, get an Ebot about a comment or favs upload link to it check it out and take care of bidness and be back to what you are doing in a minute. That's handy you don't have to come and spend an extended period doing everything, you stay current on the go, with Activity feed I'll only be catching up a couple times a week when I upload an image.....but whatever

Hope you don't mind... here is my suggestion (just a quick sketch) for a simple page for managing email/ebot subscriptions. Just sorted by user, and you could also add bulk options to turn off everything in each section. Just have everything off by default to start with and then users can add things one by one to cut down that load on the server, which is an understandable concern.
It would also need nice bar at the top with the usual search boxes, drop down boxes etc.

Not to replace the insite feed, which is much better in my opinion. But to let users have options and flexibility.

You betcha couldn't live without those, I'm running Adblock+/AdGuard and Ghostery, kills all ads and Social Media trackers
Ditch Adblock+ and get Adblock Edge instead-- it doesn't force you to greenlist stuff. Also get Element Hiding Helper-- you can click on something to block it (make sure to have previews on, because if you don't select the right thing, you'll end up blocking most of the page contents)
I reiterate PhilW's question, does this mean that we no longer get ebot notifications at all?
Hi @Icempress-- please refer to this thread.
