Subject: A question about transferring morphs

I am wanting to transfer some PBMs from V4 to M4. Some of the partial body shaping morphs from Stephanie and another package. (It's for a male character, but the men don't get as many body morphs as the women. It's something I wish somebody would do something about.) It's for a character that is already in progress, so I can't switch over to the version of him that takes her morphs, because I want to keep the ones I have. I was thinking I could do this with Morph Manager. I even read the manual, but maybe I missed something. What I did was: I loaded the cr2 for my character, and a copy of V4 with the morphs loaded that I wanted. I selected the morphs and told it to copy them. It then showed them on the list of his morphs. I saved him. But when I loaded him back into Poser, he still didn't have the morphs. I thought maybe I just needed to inject them, but they still didn't appear. (What happens when you try to inject these morph packages into M4 is that you get the morphs for the individual body part in the long unorganized list called "morph" for that part. If the morph affects more than one part, you have to make sure to apply it equally to all of them or his seams split. I could figure out all the parts affected by each morph, zero all his body morphs and spawn FBMs for each one, but that would be very tedious. )

Did you try reinitializing the figures? (Not sure if that's necessary, never figured out what they were trying to do with that mechanic..)

You could, however, create a V4 CR2 with all the morphs you want in it, then edit that CR2 to point to the M4 base .obj file. (It might be a good idea to create a differently named M4 .obj, just so you don't risk any problems with the original if you make a mistake.)

What does it mean to reinitialize the figures? What I want is a version of M4 that takes all the morph injections for both figures, not just one or the other. I have a version of him that takes her morphs instead of his, but I want to be able to combine them.

Ideally what I would wish for would be to add the V4 morphs to the cr2 of the character in progress, and for them to go into their neat collapsible headers like they're supposed to, and for all the morphs to work, but I know that's a lot to ask for, so I'll settle for the closest thing I can get. Starting over on a fresh cr2 would take a lot of time that could be spent making further progress instead but I'll do it if it's the only way.

It's not that tedious, really. At least, it's not as tedious as having to adjust the morph on each finger joint, every time you want to see what it would look like... Right? :) . You need to create a new Master Parameter for each of those partial fmbs. Load the figure, like your M4, with all the split partial fbms in it, then, using the object menu, navigate to the main "Body" channel, right click on it, and select "Create New Master Parameter." Then, follow the instructions in the manual for creating Master Parameter dials and "teaching" them what they control. For instance, you'd create the new dial, teach it that all the dials in all the groups that say "Thin" are what it is supposed to control and, once that's done, whatever value you change the dial to will be the value those other dials (partial body morphs) take on. You can also tweak the settings by having the dials take on multiples of that value. Once you get the hang of it, it's fairly easy to do and can even be a bit of fun.

There is a way to combine everything into one CR2. I've done it. I just don't remember how and don't really have much of common use for it, sorry. :( (IIRC, it's not difficult. See if you can find some old posts on the DAZ forum when Stephanie 4 was released. There was an issue getting her FMBs to load properly and the workaround I used to create a "master" V4 figure, with all possible morphs made for that particular mesh, was based on the discussions I found when people were discussing S4's initial problems on release.)

If you remember how, please let me know. It would be very useful to me. For now I'm going to start doing the Master Parameter thing.

There are plenty of people around here who'd know. Or, at least, plenty of people who used to be around here... Try asking at DAZ3D and Renderosity.

Seems like it used to be a lot busier here.
I looked on the Daz forums (I haven't posted anything yet) and I found 2 things:

  1. There is a Daz script that no longer exists, for merging cr2's.
  2. Morph Manager is supposed to transfer morphs.
I read the manual that comes with Morph Manager, and I thought I followed the instructions. Maybe what I need to find is someone who knows how to use that.
Of course there must be a way to edit the files by hand to do what I want but I would need to know what I'm doing more than I do.
