Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 03 1:41 pm)
I wish I still had my Mil Horse... :( It's currently sitting on a portable drive that has no driver support in Win7+. I gotta mount an external bootable, boot off of it, then get my old files and trash that drive.
I'd suggest one of the native poser figures. There's far too little out there for them. Kate2 or Alyson? (Can't remember their names... shows how much I use them.)
On Mildog breeds: I know there is someone who did a bunch of breed variations for the Mildog. With basic textures, too. Though, they're almost all medium sized dogs. Dachsund, anyone? :)
+1 mildog.
i would dearly love an expressive dinosaur. beyond eyes, mouth open lol expressions like sniff, smell something bad, you smell delicious expressions for mildragon, md2

I was going to vote for rex, but any of them need it. The dog works too

I use Poser 13 and win 10
Terai Yuki 2. I don't consider TY2 really a toon, although it has that genre feel. In any case she isn't any more toon like than some of the Poser natives that are meant to be realistic. Or something for Kate 2.

Applause for your energy!!
Renewing Judy would be revolutionary. She is the ugly duckling of the family of Poser native figures family. I do not see much use for her anymore though. For those curious: she is in the Poser 5 content that not come with Poser 6/7 see : http://my.smithmicro.com/poser-content-updates.html There is also a version remapped for V3 skins: http://www.planit3d.com/source/poser/stahlratte/stahlratte5.html
But as a whole maybe Sydney and her kin may be a better choice: more recent and efficient beause covering 4 figures in one go and that is where my vote goes. Of course if you want something totally different : try Scrum by Sixus1: http://www.sharecg.com/v/21642/poser/Scrum:-Base
I vote for Sydney also. But I had heard there are problems with the whole G2 mesh as far as not being symmetrical. Someone (forgive my memory) had posted that they had tried to weight map Sydney and it just didn't work out because, as they stated, her mesh was a mess. It would require someone to retopo her first, I reckon.
But Sydney does take well to the face room..

Yikes. Yeah, it was shvrDavid. He's a mod over at another place. He posts here... occassionally.

I remember now, thanks for filling in the holes in my Swiss cheese brain!
Was the yikes for the post or the render?

Someone did Judy already as the commercial set 'Eternal Judy'. It was popular enough to have gotten a fair amount of support in the market. Unfortunately that seems to have passed out of the store. I really hate Rendo's clearance policy sometimes. I think base figures should be exempted.
Weird side issue - I don't seem to have Judy. Even after loading the content update someone linked to, all I have is Judy Casual (the clothed figure).
You know I don't think I've ever loaded Sydney and Simon? .... wow he has squinty little eyes. They both need some joint fix morphs, that's for certain. Simons super macho shoulders get mangled pretty fast.
so far the figures mentioned have been the mildog, tyler, sydney, simon, rex, alyson, judy, olivia, kelvin, TY2
As I recall Olivia, Kelvin and Ty2 are all pay figures, which I don't have. So those are unlikely. Not scrum. Just not going to happen :P
I'm not all that worried about symmetricallity, so far no figure I have ever worked on is perfectly symmetrical, not even v4. I work on one side, mirror it and smooth out any issues as I go.

As I said in the other thread, Alyson, Rex and Ryan all have a fair amount of morphs. The figures that do not are the G2 series - Sydney, Jessi 2, Olivia, Simon, James2, Kelvin. I vote for Olivia and Kelvin but I was wondering if morphs can be shared among them since clothes can too.
Yes - Sydney, Jessi, Olivia use the same body (and can use the same morphs) - the heads are all different. Miki 2 also uses the same body (but was scaled to be smaller). The same is true for James, Simon, Kelvin & Koji.
The G2s have several morph sets. Go visit RDNA. They have the Ultimate Head & Body Morphs, Netherworks made the Pro Morph body and head sets for them, sold over at Content Paradise. The Super Morph Set for Sydney & Jessi G2 female what the ++ set did for V4 that is sold right here at 'Rosity.

What the SM G2 figures don't have is the many products that exist to fix mesh problems for the DAZ meshes.
My vote is for P6 James & P6 Koji. The faces do expressions really, really well.
Not sure what Sydney's issues are, in terms of x symmetry I ran the welded mesh through Zbrush and didn't notice any symmetry oddities with the brush or with a cursory examination of the topology. There is a rather strange loop in the chest group but not sure if that's an issue. I guess shvrDavid or someone who's worked extensively with the figure would know the unobvious pitfalls. She also seems centered with the main center X points in the set up room, ditto 0 in the Y and Z orientations.

Thanks, I found several morph packs for all the G2 guys and some of the G2 gals at RDNA. Poor Olivia though, nothing comes up at any store for head morphs.

That is because she came out at the very end of the G2 lifecycle - it's a shame, I have several characters for her (Thanks Tempesta3d!) & I quite like her.
Olivia has face room support. Poser 11/2016 is going to have a built in INJ/REM creation ability. Take Olivia (or any other SM figure, or Apollo Maximus) into the face room spin dials until you are happy, and create inj/rem file. Problem solved.
Now, if I could just figure out how to talk Blacksmith3D into making a V4 to an SM G2F module & a M4 to G2F module I would be a very happy camper.
AFA "squinty eyes" - that is because people are used to the freak show proportions of the DAZ figures. SM figures are realistically sized & realistically proportioned figures, so the eyes don't take up the space that frontal lobes take up.

Just for the record: Judy came with Poser 5 but was left out of the Poser 6 (and later) distribution. Official reason given was shortage of space on the Poser 6 disk. The missing Poser 5 content could and can AFAIK still be downloaded separately. (see link in my previous post). So consequently she would be available to all Poser users. As far as I know she is the only native Poser figure that came 'out of the box' in anatomically correct shape and full morph set for the parts normally hidden.
It looks like the dog is winning. :) I know this is off-topic but you mentioned it's possible to download the Poser 5 figures. Can you do this even if you have a much newer version of Poser? The reason I ask is because I tried, and it wouldn't accept either of my serial numbers. (P10 and PP2014.) Don and Judy have free Crossdresser licenses, which makes them much more useful because you can easily put any clothes on them, and it doesn't cost anything. So I downloaded the licenses thinking I had Don and Judy, and I discovered only after converting a kinky leather harness to Don that he has to wear it over his clothes. (Had to start somewhere; it was an experiment. ;)

Rex and Sydney are the second runners up at the moment
I've looked at the top 50 dog breeds according to the American Kennel Society. DAZ already has morphs & maps for about 10 of those. Some of the rest can be done with just morphs and displacements.
However any breed with medium or long hair (golden retriever, shih tzu, clipped poodles, cocker spaniels, etc) would need a set of conformers. It could be done with dynamic hair in poser, but that doesn't translate to other programs and is a stinker to work with for distribution anyways.
Specifically: med conforming fur (body), med conforming fur (tail), med conforming fur (legs), Med conforming hair (ears), long conforming hair (ears), long conforming fur (body), long conforming fur (tail), long conforming fur (legs), poodle clip, full body poodle fur disp, shih tzu ponytail
I'm afraid I can't really commit to making a bunch of morphing transmapped conformers free. Sorry guys .. I don't love you that much.
I can either skip all the longhaired dogs or I can make the conformers a sale item, and bundle the long-haired breed morphs in with that. Opinions?
Honestly I'm almost tempted to set up a patreon thing for these projects.

Actually the Poser 5 man, Don was a great figure it's just there was very little available for him. I would like to see them do something in a middle weight male, not the skinny ones that they have been including with Poser for years. Ones that have more average guy proportions, I thought that Apollo was a very good figure for that. Yes there are thin men out there, but it would be good to have options that started from an average guy default. Don would be great if they weight mapped him and provided decent texture maps and facial hair options. At least all the native Poser figures are anatomically correct without having to pay more.
Judy was popular for a while too (the Poser 5 female), Then they had the kids weren't they Will and Penny? I'm not sure, it seems they got the names from Lost In Space, LOL. I think the G2 men were too thin and it looks like they just flattened out the G2 women for them. Men usually don't have wrists the size of twigs. Poser has been good at providing adults and children, but no good teen models.

Sydney ... oh, and an observation on the Mill-dog. Keep in mind some dogs won't translate as well because of their longer fur ... poodles, collies, yorkies etc. Probably why some of them weren't included initially. I love that new face for Sydney!!
That is one thing I don't understand. Furry Head and beard was made even for the MilBig Cat 1 back then why not some parented fur bundles for the dogs? Technology and shkills and applications and processors are way different today and see no reason why some of this stuff can't be rehashed somehow?

If they are good dear and vastly improve the user experience and renders with these improvements i would be willing to pay for some of these longer haired update parts and i don't have money to play with. But I use the dogs a lot and anything that will make them look more realistic in my renders would be greatly worth something. And why A patreon thing you can sell them here or DAZ for that matter.
Funny I have never used any of the on board Poser characters except the P4 figures and Judy for a while when I purchased the few Judy upgrade kits here and other sites. For adding bodies to scene I would go back to V2 in a flash since there are so many options for her I have collected which either was never available for any of the other characters. Most of them in my opinion are plain ugly. whereas V2 was a bit prettier out of the box. The extra morphs i have for her just added to her looks and functionality and as much as i wanted to try the other figures out there, their lack of community support or even great lack of support and expandability from their original creators made me steer CLEAR of using them. Mu votes are for the dogs or the milHorse1. Are you planning to do the sam fixes for the Mil{ups Lyrra? I would love to have a new born pup set for them if at all possible or a few weeks old and still blind and nursing age.
this thread is pretty much closed - I currently have a working thread going for the mildogs.
most of the things I would like to work on and that people would want are not commercially viable, not worth the bother of putting them into the store here. Also products have a finite life in the store, so I'd rather have most things as freebies when possible. And of course, most people dont have a lot of cash to spare these days, so I'd rather ask for what people can spare rather then insisting on full market pricing.

Greetings!
As some of you may have noticed I made Roxie Improved recently, adding several hundred morphs to the figure in an effort to make it more versatile, and put it out on rendo freestuff and ShareCG. A while back I gave Jessi 1 the same treatment.
So I'm looking at my runtime and debating what figure to work on next
Currently my contenders are Rex, Tyler, Alyson, the Mill Dog, the Mil horse, or Kate 2
I'd like to know what you all think, or if you want to nominate some other character for a work up
Poser only figures - no genesis, no DS only figures
No popular figure - so no Gen 4 figures (v4, m4, k4) and probably not the gen3's either. And no toons. I'm terrible at toons, we should all avoid this
Let me know! and in a week or so I'll tot up the suggestions and see if theres a clear interest in any figure , if not I'll just pick one out of a hat.
