Subject: 'What's New' is pretty much useless now

I've weathered a few changes here, I even learned to use Greasemonkey scripting last time the site underwent big changes in order to make it usable for me again. This time I think you've finally got rid of me for good, and that makes me both sad, and a little angry.

I only get on here occasionally, perhaps once a week or sometimes less, but when I do get on I usually have plenty of time to browse.

Before the changes I could browse the 'what's new' gallery going back as far as I needed, weeks even.

The new way of browsing is just awful; I assume it's intended to be tablet/phone friendly, but for me it's absolutely frustrating scrolling a little way and getting yet another swirly 'please wait' circle for another few images.

Worse though is that it only seems to go back a few days. I guess that's because all the images are effectively on one expanding page, so you don't want to have too many. The other main art site I use manages though, with far more than here. For me it means I have now missed out on a lot of new art since I last visited. I could follow particular artists of course, but that is cumbersome with my eclectic tastes and besides, I might miss something I'm not following.

It's just rubbish like this!

I've seen this sort of thing plenty of times; supporting the latest 'big thing' at the expense of others. It's stupid, frankly. It is possible to have it both ways; I've been an IT professional for decades and I speak from experience.

Tonight, having been able to view only two and a bit days' worth of new material, I've finally given up. There are many great artists here who's work I now am unlikely to see. How is that a good thing, for me or them? Or, in fact, for the site?

So I suppose it's pretty much goodbye from me. Everything comes to an end I suppose. I just always hold out hope to the last breath... hence my post here. More of a 'please listen' than a ranting exit.

I'm sorry to hear you are not happy with the scrolling. We are working on things daily to make changes asked by our members. As for this issue, we do have page numbers on the sections and member galleries. But, the scrolling is most likely to stay as it is best with the current new coding in place.

Ever thought about changing 'the new coding' when so many people are complaining about the scrolling? Oh, of course, why should you? It's the problem of your customers, not yours...

I know there are page numbers in other places, but the 'What's New' gallery is the one I need, and have always used. There was nothing wrong with it as it was, and I even did access it (the old way I mean) on my phone when on holiday. No change was really needed.

While I'm not shocked at the management attitude that implemented this change and towards customers who don't like the new site, it does surprise me that such a decision clearly limits the exposure of new artwork when surely that is the opposite of what the site needs most of all... I'm baffled, but then I often am at many 'management decisions' that fly in the face of logic.

As to changing the new coding as mentioned above: I would guess that the most obnoxious thing to me (the history limit) could be changed be increasing a single parameter in the code. If not, then that's pretty poor coding (and yes, I've done more than just a tad of coding myself). The other site manages to display thousands of images this way, and also displays many more images before a 'wait for more images to load' is needed. I don't like it as such, but at least it is still usable over there because of those two simple differences. And really, given the cheapness of CPU these days, why could not two systems run in parallel, for those of us with real screens to sit in front of?

It's not a case of coding; it's a case of management decisions being made because someone had the bright idea that doing this means you can boast about your 'fancy new site' and maybe make a few extra pennies. Who cares about the people that the loss of actual usability and practicality loses along the way. I spent a lot of money on my monitors, and I don't appreciate being limited to a tablet-targeted, limited-bandwidth interface, and a poor implementation of it at that.

Standard company practice these days: asking for and expecting loyalty yet offering none in return. It stinks.

The _cool _way to do these website thingies is to adjust the coding to the needs, not the other way round :D

Maybe a poll to ask people what they use?? Desktop PC, Laptop, etc? Maybe then Rendo will pay attention?

I stopped taking this site seriously when they PTB decided to label prices in Green on Grey, I have to highlight it with the mouse just to read the bloody cost! I gave up and went to DAZ for my content (Also, their galleries don't have adverts in them)

And the DARK GREEN pricing? Can you justify such low contrast text - Making it difficult for the visually impaired?

I have never expected that you would change it to give your customers (the same who pay your salery, you remember?) a useful site back. Useful as it has been before your 'revelution', remember? The fact that other sites do the same seems to be more important nowadays as the satisfactory of your own customers. If you really think that is reason enough to screw up a long time working site then sorry girls! I'm following the caravan to the sites that really take about their customers. Have fun with your new socialiced site where uselessness is obviousely more important than customers who like to stop and shop here. Wish you all the best for the remaining time of Renderosity.....

You'll not get an official answer to your eligible question, because there is no other content store doing that crap. I'm not even sure if Rendo is still a content store, the newest 'revolution' has obviousely transformed the older site, where customers could find the stuff they searched and members could use the galleries as the wanted, in just another Facebook clone (but of course they can give you a lot of links to social media crap working like Rendo...).

But hey, don't worry, the new design is hip now and will bring new customers to the store from all over the world who are using tablets and cellphones for their serious render work instead of sitting in front of large monitors at home. This new generation will rock the shop in the future (at least in the eyes of TPTB at Rendo). Good luck for that...

I fully agree chanur56, sadly this store seems to be more interested to look good on a cellphone or tablet.

I just can not understand WHY a formerly great working store was making itself look ugly and make using the store a pain in the a**e? Why would they not listen to their customers ? It is one thing to decorate , make a change here and their, but how many times have customers now complained about the Gallery, the endless scrolling.. but instead of fixing the problem they make us click more so that we have to go to sections and click on whatever we want to see. Why not just add page numbers on the FIRST page that the Artist comes to see WHAT"S NEW?

The store is unusable for me, it takes AGES to open, most of the promotional images take WAY to long for me so that I give up. I am thinking of deleting my Gallery here and stick to the store that cater for their paying customers.

If I want something like FB I go to FB.

GeofiX - There has always been some forums that have been slower than others. This has been like this since I've been on staff (since the early 2000's). We are currently staffing up in those areas to help bring interest into them. I have found that it has nothing to do with any site issues, it is more that those members have simply moved on due to offline life issues causing it to slow down to only a few posts after so long. :)

The Maya Forum has a Forum Moderator - And 1 post.

The 3DS MAX Forum has a Forum Moderator - And 5 posts.

The LightWave Forum has a Forum Moderator - And 3 posts.

I've also been at this site for a number of years and can remember how busy these forums used to be.

Page numbers are back on "what's new" and they go all the way back into the distant past.

'nuff said, I'm off to do something far more important - browsing artwork!
