Subject: anyone figured out how to fix the Poser4 baby?

MistyLaraCarrara ( ) posted Thu, 29 October 2015 at 1:13 PM · edited Thu, 28 November 2024 at 10:23 PM

looks like the bodyparts are disconnected.

it's that time of year, i need a baby jesus to render.

was wondering if it's a simple fix to fix Poser4 baby?

Thanks.

Just looked at it, you're mistaking the way the creases and folds have been modeled into the mesh for seams or unwelded groups. You could fix that with some smoothing custom morphs with the morph brush or similar external sculpting tools. Poser's morph brush works fine for that purpose.

...In other words, the fix is as simple as a few minutes or as long as it takes you to get the smoothed result you're looking for.

... if you decide to smooth the blNudeInfant.obj in an external app you want to be aware that the model contains a gang of Ngons, the vertex order will probably be botched if you let the app convert to tris and quads. It'll definitely cause a 'wrong number of vertices' error.

Lol. I don't have to try misty. You do. Seriously though, you can resolve the issue with the smooth brush in Poser. Easy Peasy, I think you'll manage.

Actually, it's even easier than that. The problem with the baby is that it's quite lo poly. If you've got PP2014 or Poser 10, switch the figure's skinning method to "unimesh" and then subdivide level 1 or 2 in figure property tab. [Time: 5 seconds.] If you don't have PP 2014/Poser 10, then use SnarlyGribbly's subdivider script and subdivide x1 or x2. Either method smooths out the wrinkles to make them look like a baby's wrinkled skin. The armpits still suffer from Poser's legacy rigging, but the smooth morph brush fixes that in a few seconds (start with very low settings and adjust upwards until you get a brush size and strength you like). With EZSkin2 used, it's quite a cute baby, actually. :)

Yeah, you know I think it is a good model... I have the millennium baby too. I think the Poser 4 one looks more authentic somehow. Here's the baby's arm before smoothing with the morph brush (preview image)... Before.jpg

Here's after, I used a rather large brush radius just for a wide illustration. You would want to use a smaller radius and soften just the creases as to maintain a baby fat look rather than that of a small child's arm... After.jpg

Oh yeah, those results are on the standard low poly mesh without subdivision, but as Moriador stated the baby could be benefited by subdivision I think.

I agree. It's not bad at all, and it does look more like a baby than the mil baby.

Here's with EZSkin, but no subd. It needs eyelashes, and is a bit pale.

And here with Poser's subd, level 1. (Snarly's looks pretty much the same.) In any case, it just about fixes it. :)

That does look good Moriador, the subdivision really did the trick. Proof I think that it's still a good model with some life in it.

It's too bad Cubed no longer has the Jenny and Dylan add ons for the P4 baby. They were a great improvement.

Yes, it's not a bad transformation for 10 seconds work. LOL. The model is fine. It could use some weight mapping and rerigging. And some morphs.

Maybe we can persuade Lyrra to take it on. 😀

Jeez, I must be a masochist Moriador... there certainly isnt any aesthetic or material reward in all of this forum stuff. Poser's great and I love using it as one of my artistic tools. But this... Community? The neurotic pits. Lol. Later.

still use it from time to time. it is low res but not doing closeups not important. back in the day there were several character and nice textures for it. i picked everything i could find for it then and the better stuff has been in the runtime folders since p4. would be nicer if it had better articulated toes and better textures made for today's poser versions and users demands. but, as a filler figure it still is cute. i wonder if there is a texture converter for it somewhere?

Have you seen the baby created by HiveWire3D? I think it is really good for close-ups and it has a newborn morph. BabyBatht.jpgBabyLuna.jpg

pretty baby for sure. THe price though is a bit high for what little use I will get out of it. Since I don't do too many CU's of my figures in my work I see no value in getting it. But when the day comes I will need one for a specific assignment I have it in my WishList there.
