This is outstanding stuff. Thank you for including a ready-to-render .blend file too! You should share that over on Blend Swap, man. I'm sure there's hundreds of people over there who would love to have this. I had to adjust the materials and lighting a little bit, but overall, it rendered fairly good right out of the box for me! I'll probably post something using this soon.

Thanks, David. This is my first freebie in which I've included a .blend file, so it's really just an experiment for me right now. I'd be interested to hear any issues you may find with the file, and if there were any glitches opening it, or finding textures, etc. I assume the textures get embedded in the blend, but I'm not sure about that. Documentation suggests it, but I still linked them to the local maps folder anyway. As for the material setup, I simply did the rudimentary diffuse Cycles mats for most of the objects, and a simple color environment. I would have liked to include a hdri, but I didn't have any custom hdr maps I could redistribute.
Anyway, I'm glad you like it, and would love to see anything you produce with it.

I almost completely missed the .blend file! That's freaking great! Saves me a lot of time setting up the scene. Thanks! Yeah, I wish you released this sooner too. Would have made a great Halloween render for one of the contests.
Tools : 3dsmax 2015, Daz Studio 4.6, PoserPro 2012, Blender
v2.74
System: Pentium QuadCore i7, under Win 8, GeForce GTX 780 / 2GB
GPU.
Looks good, David. I have a lot to learn about Cycles, and in particular the way it handles normal maps. It seems the normal maps worked well, but not quite as good in Cycles as they appeared using Blender Internal. It could be a node issue, but in all other engines, they seemed to work well, including Iray. Cycles seemed to portray the results either too intensely, or too sparingly, in some cases. All in all, I'm happy with the results, and I will certainly offer .blend files more often in the future.

Thanks for this - it is really awesome.
In case you are curious it all loads and renders in Carrara too, although both the DAZ specific and general OBJ files import at seemingly random scales and locations - this is almost certainly a purely Carrara issue, so I wouldn't worry about it.
Very interesting. Thank you very much for testing the scene in Carrara. I don't know that anyone has ever used my models in that application before, so it's really intriguing to hear from those who have, and how they behaved upon import. I'm slowly working on the possibility of also offering my work as native Daz Studio props and environments, but I just haven't yet had the time to go under the hood to see how objects are handled there internally. Ultimately, I'd like to make it as easy as possible for users of various different platforms to incorporate my models into their scenes. Particularly now that Daz Studio supports rendering with Iray (a render engine which I'm very familiar with, having used it for some years in 3dsmax), I've taken even more interest in it, and intend to support it directly in the near future. Hopefully that will also benefit users of Carrara. Thanks again for the feedback! It's greatly appreciated!

Evil Tree - Full Set
The new free model set I've created has been approved in freestuff. It includes a bonus .blend scene file, with textures, simple environment light, and rudimentary Cycles mats applied, for faster setup in Blender.
This is one of my first "complete" 3d environment sets, the package includes all of the objects you see in the preview and wireframe renders; tree, rocks, gravestones01,02, and a skull model. The objects together contain 47,832 polygons; 47,850 vertices (99.6% quad polygons, 0.3% triangles, 0 ngons). All models have been carefully UV unwrapped, with minimal texture distortion. There are 18 high resolution maps included in this set (4096 x 4096 px); each object containing it's own color, specular, and normal maps. It is highly recommended to use the normal maps with your own custom materials for optimum render detail.
As with all my products, free or not, I stand behind it, and encourage you to contact me if you encounter any issues, or need assistance. Hope you like it. Enjoy.
