Subject: Making an 80s movie poster - ••Winner Announced••

MarkBremmer ( ) posted Thu, 05 November 2015 at 4:30 PM · edited Sat, 23 November 2024 at 3:15 AM

I don't know about you, but I do much better in making images when I have a goal or subject in mind. Otherwise, I just play around and then go to bed with nothing to show for it.

Sooooooooooooooo,

Here's the NOVEMBER competition: Make an 80s Movie Poster

You will be judged by your peers in this forum. The winner gets featured in the Renderosity Magazine.

••Rules: Umm, hardly any. But you do need to use Carrara for at least some of the imagery. Yep. That's it. Post submissions back in this forum and I'll start voting on Friday, November 27th. Winner announced on November 30.

As inspiration, may I present: images-1.jpegimages-2.jpegimages-3.jpegimages.jpegUnknown-1.jpegUnknown-2.jpegUnknown-4.jpegUnknown-3.jpeg

Wow! Cool contest. I've been away and had a major computer migration. I don't even have Carrara installed on the new system yet, so not sure I'll get around to it. But I love the contest idea!

Sounds like fun. I assume it does not have to be a real movie? I.e. we can make up the title, etc.? Here's one I've always liked (scariest movie ever ...)

MarkBremmer ( ) posted Fri, 06 November 2015 at 11:59 AM

Correct. If that is your inspiration, I like where you're headed.

Steve K. ( ) posted Fri, 06 November 2015 at 3:00 PM

Here is a pretty inspired sequel to "The Exorcist" ... the title anyway ...

I am actually surprised no one ever tried to make this, the original is one of my all-time favorite movies. 😀 I had other things to work on this weekend and this killed my whole Saturday - I hope you're happy with yourself! 😦

Forgot the credits and by the time I had them I couldn't edit my post anymore, so here they are: Kimono Jacket by mytilus https://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/edo-fashion---kimono-jacket/98097, Hr-127 hair by Ali https://www.renderosity.com/mod/bcs/hr-127/104456

Available elsewhere: The Streets of Asia by Stonemason, Big Bill Truck by petipet, Merlin's Katana by Merlin, Pants and Shoes from the Ciao Bella Outfit for Genesis 2 Female.

Fonts: Godzilla font by Bill Bussone http://www.dafont.com/godzilla.font, SteelTongs font by TracerTong and sample credits block http://www.tipsquirrel.com/movie-poster-credit-template-for-photoshop

I split up and duplicated various parts of Stonemason's The Streets of Asia to make the street and added some Carrara dynamic hair to the hair (to add some extra texture and fly-aways) but otherwise didn't do anything to the items I used except adjust textures, pose and light them.

No time to take part, except if we can post an ancient work done for a DAZ Challenge... Nice work Everybody !

MarkBremmer ( ) posted Tue, 10 November 2015 at 3:37 PM

The only rule is that Carrara has to be used for some part of the poster. So, you can use the image if you want DUDU.car!

Pretty spooky, DUDU, reminds me of the 1958 movie "The Fly":

Very nice, Wonga, it brings back memories of the old SF Magazine "Amazing Stories" (for me, more than the TV show). The mag had a long history, but did offer some great writers, like Harlan Ellison. Just last night I re-read his story " 'Repent, Harlequin!' Said The TickTockMan", A winner of the Hugo and the Nebula for Best Short Story, it has its own long and grand history:

Steve K. ( ) posted Sun, 22 November 2015 at 10:55 PM

Very nice, Pimpy. Coincidentally, "America's Funniest Videos" tonight had a cat chasing away a group of deer. Remember the little girl in the movie "The Exorcist"? That's our cat at the vet's. Seriously ... I worry about getting billed for sheet rock repair.

I liked big trouble in little China 2. For whatever reason, I liked the lighting, the colors, and the balance of it.

All of the entries were well done!

Winner: MDO2010 Big Trouble in Little China 2

Well done sir. You will be contacted by the powers-that-be for recognition galore.

Thanks so much for everyone that entered! I enjoyed the juxtaposition of the Rock Man and Cat in Fearless. And, BTW, I never tire of fruit-cart upsets – I welcome them the same way I welcome my stomach doing cartwheels when a roller-coaster descends on the first drop. That's why I go.

Steve K. ( ) posted Tue, 01 December 2015 at 11:22 AM

Congratulations MDO2010, an excellent render. I got wrapped up in the Fusion discussion and forgot to vote, but its a well deserved win.

Mark, yes, fruit cart and similar "allisions" (I just learned that word) have become an integral part of chase scenes. I'll bet there's a listing for "Fruit Cart Setups" in the Hollywood Yellow Pages (do Yellow Pages still exist?) You may laugh, but at a party for 48 Hour Film contest teams, there was a man handing out cards for his police vehicle prop rental service. Mostly Crown Vics, he picks them up from Police Depts. who upgrade.

I got the fruit cart idea from Roger Ebert's (RIP) great "Ebert's Bigger Little Movie Glossary", well worth the $11 price:
