Subject: Saving just materials

PAnn ( ) posted Mon, 21 December 2015 at 7:43 PM · edited Thu, 01 August 2024 at 2:18 PM

I have been a user of the material room in changing outfits or textures etc., but I have been looking through the manual and googling for an answer on how to save just a material file. I am using Poser pro 2014

I can load up a dress and experiment with different materials on the top or dress or trim and use many of the materials I have bought. I have been trying to experiment with some materials where I have made the image I want to use and set up all the values and so the material I have applied is one of my own making. Now the problem comes in finding out if there is a way to save just my new made up material without saving it on the dress or saving the dress, so i can use it on other outfits at another time? I just can't find out how to do it....

I am not sure if I made myself very clear....but simply if I make up a red and white print material to try on a dress today, how can I save only the red and white material so I can use it on a skirt next week?

Any help will be GREATLY appreciated.

Hi yam Pat! What you want to make is a material that will work with all or any item you choose, right?

If so, go to the Material room and Make your material. (Please note that if you use a texture that is specific to the dress in question for the texture It will only work with this dress, but you will be able to apply it to anything!! )

  1. With the Material Room Open Click Edit > Memorize Object

  2. Click the little plus sign at the bottom of the Materials Library page. It's a good idea to Naviage to the folder you want your new material to appear in.

  3. Poser will pop up a dialog box for a New Material Set

  4. Give it a logical name

  5. Chose Single Material if you want a texture to apply to anything. (If it's a part of something else, Poser will tell you and you can choose those options if you want)

Capture1.PNG
This will save as an *.MT5

Or

  1. if you want a texture that works with ALL parts of the item, like you have a transparency at the hem, and piping on the seams, and you want to save all your work, Chose Material Collection, and then choose the parts of the item you want to be included in the Material Set. This will save as an MC6.

Either way, the new Material will appear in the folder you told it to. It will be ugly, but it will be there!!! Poser takes a bad screen shot of your item on the stage and makes that the icon. It does a better job for hte MT5, because it uses the Preview at the bottom of Poser Surface (in the advanced area) to make the icon.

Good luck!

Thanks for the help. I printed out your instructions and followed them step by step but somehow it didn't work for me. I tried enough with one I was trying to create so I loaded up a skirt, applied a purchased one I bought but changed the colour only. Then I tried to save it. It appeared in the library with an image etc. but when I loaded up another outfit and tried to apply my one with the colour change, half of the stuff had disappeared. I will include 2 images... one purchased material with just a quick colour change and then what appeared when I tried to use it again........... did I goof up somewhere??? As you can see all the attachments nodes etc aren't there.

Just had another go at it and tried on your little window image to NOT check "selected nodes only"........and I think it has worked with that box empty. I will try again and make sure using it on another outfit.

yes, that should help. if your other outifit didn't have the same nodes, those would not be filled with color! Sorry to have skipped that scenario!!
