Subject: Exporting from DAZ to Poser

clell ( ) posted Tue, 29 December 2015 at 1:46 PM · edited Sat, 23 November 2024 at 3:09 PM

I'm trying to import some objects from DAZ 4.8 to PoserPro 11. In each of th DAZ allowed formats I'm having problems with (fbx) objects scattered all around. (dae) materials not transfered. (Cr2) materials present but object isn't. (obj) no materials. What am I not doing properly? I'm trying to import inanimate objects like an APC wreckage, a motel ect. I certainly would appreciate a push in the right direction :) Thank you; Clell

Hello.
I can't tell what you're doing! Do you have DSON installed to Poser 11? Is it working? Are you exporting from DS 4.8? Please clarify!

Yes, DSON is installed...I'm using DAZ export feature trying to import into Poser. Yes...DAZ 4.8 and PoserPro 11 are being used. I'm primarily trying to export (from DAZ) inanimate objects (Buildings, automobiles, aircraft ect.) into PoserPro11 Thanks for your post; Clell

Could you not just have Poser's Content Library index your DAZ Studio runtime?

First, determine if the DAZ content is available in both DAZStudio and Poser format. Current terminology standards describe them as DAZStudio Core and Poser Core. They should be installed into their corresponding applications. The same applies to Companion Files. Now, if the content is older and depending how it is packaged, installation would go directly into a Poser runtime.

Second, link your DAZStudio runtime to Poser's Content Library as mentioned above. This is important if the content is dependent on the DSON Importer. Nonetheless, a DAZ file and a Poser file must be installed for this to work.

Third, What OS are you currently using and where are your contents installed? If content is loaded into Program Files of specific Windows OS's then you have a bigger problem.

Fourth, consider that some DAZ content is only meant for DAZStudio and will not export over correctly.

Now, specifically, what content are you trying to export to Poser?

Thank you; Understood concerning Daz CF files...that is why I'm trying to "export" the models as an "import" file Poser will recognize. The files do, in fact, import into Poser...They just aren't complete or are all scrambled. I don't recall having this problem with PoserPro Game Dev....just wondered if it was a Poser 11 glitch. In answer to your last question....I'm trying to Export from DAZ using an import format Poser will accept (FBX, Wavefront ect). The files I'm trying to work with are things such as buildings, automobiles, aircraft ect. The DAZ files I'm trying to export do NOT have CF files and are not compatible with Poser. Thanks much; Clell

PS: an example of a file I'm trying is "Summer Camp" from DAZ3D.com

So.... Looking for the "WHERE" in the error.... do you still have 2014 installed? Can it handle the exported obj? if so, it's Poser11 flakiness.
If not, it would seem to be a DS export issue....

I tried importing into Blender and they work, so I'm just gonna write this off as a glitch. I certainly do appreciate all the posts. This is a GREAT community and I'm proud to be a part of it. If I can help someone down the road I will :) Thanks again! Clell
