Subject: KB3132372 Microsoft upload and Adobe Flash

Anthony Appleyard ( ) posted Fri, 08 January 2016 at 11:56 PM · edited Sun, 01 December 2024 at 10:43 AM

Link to Adobe Flash download site

Link to thread: Subject: Latest WIN 10 update (KB3132372) prevents poser 10 from working

For 7 days now I have been unable to run my Poser 10, which ran correctly from when I bought it until 2 Jan 2016 inclusive. I have now found this address to download Adobe Flash.

A minute ago I tried to call my Poser 10 and it still did not work.

  • Would it achieve anything to uninstall and reinstall Adobe Flash?
  • Of the various links on that page, which is the correct link?
  • Has that page's Adobe Flash for PC's been kept up-to-date with all the Microsoft updates? Or would KB3132372 merely come back again?

Thanks.

My "Control Panel/All Control Panel Items/Programs and Features" list display says that my current Adobe Flash Player 20 NPAPI was installed on 28 Dec 2015 and is version 15.009.20069

How can I force an upgrade of it? Or should I keep on waiting?

I have Windows 10 Home.

If you are using Firefox, close it, open IE and visit Adobe.com. There you can get the actualst version of the flash player for IE.

Is it correct to download Adobe Flash from http://adobe-flash-player.en.softonic.com/download ?

Anthony Appleyard ( ) posted Sat, 09 January 2016 at 4:26 AM · edited Sat, 09 January 2016 at 4:26 AM

I have now reinstalled Adobe Flash, and my Control Panel page Control Panel/Programs/Programs and Features now says that my Adobe Flash Player 20 NPAPI was installed on 9 Jan 2016 and is version 15.009.20069 . But my Poser 10 STILL refuses to run, even after shutting my computer down and restarting it.

Anthony Appleyard ( ) posted Sat, 09 January 2016 at 4:58 AM · edited Sat, 09 January 2016 at 5:03 AM

I always install my Poser at C:/Poser(number)/ (in the present case, at C:/Poser10/), not in the usual place, to make it easier to reach my geometry files for editing work. Could that have upset matters? ( / should be backslash.)

But my Poser 10 ran OK like that for the best part of a year before the recent crisis started.

Anthony Appleyard ( ) posted Sat, 09 January 2016 at 6:17 AM · edited Sat, 09 January 2016 at 6:19 AM

I have yet again uninstalled and reinstalled my Poser 10, at C:/Poser10/ . And at the end of install it again did not ask me for a serial number. And after all that my Poser 10 still refuses to run.

hborre ( ) posted Sat, 09 January 2016 at 7:54 AM

Geometry files? If you use the default install for Poser 10, there shouldn't be any geometry in that folder. Geometry is saved in the Poser 10 Content runtime, if you use it for installing additional content, or external runtimes.

Have you manually uninstalled all files and folders from P10 before reinstalling?

Anthony Appleyard ( ) posted Sat, 09 January 2016 at 7:54 AM · edited Sat, 09 January 2016 at 7:55 AM

I have tried yet again to get my Poser 10 working. I used a disk that came from Smith Micro, not a downloaded copy. I looked at my list of installed programs in Control Panel/All Control Panel Items/Programs and Features . They included the previous Poser 10, and its PoserContent14, and an old PoserContent14 that I installed in 2014. I remembered that my Poser 10 had been installed at C:/Poser 10/ with a space, and that my new installings of Poser 10 had been installed at C:/Poser10/ without a space. So I uninstalled the Poser 10 and both PoserContent14's, and reinstalled Poser 10 from the disk. And a Poser 10 and a PoserContent14 duly appeared C:/Poser 10/ where my old Poser 10 installation had been for a least about a year and had run OK until 2 Jan 2016 inclusive. And the installer asked me to click to reinstall Adobe Acrobat and Adobe Flash, and I accepted. And the installer did not ask me for a serial number. And the new Poser 10 installation still refuses to start.

Are we still waiting for a new (compatible) version of Adobe Flash? Or what? Thanks.

I have just powered my computer down and restarted it, and my Poser 10 still won't run.

Could the trouble come from old junk in my registry? If so, where in my registry should I look for what, and delete it?

http://my.smithmicro.com/poser-pro-11.html says that Poser 11 costs $500 (= about £345). Would changing to Poser 11 avoid this bug? The thread Subject: Poser 11/Poser 11 Pro: Bug Reports describes an alarming list of faults, and before this Flash-or-whatever crash I had been planning to leave Poser 11 for a while until the bugs had been worked out of it.

oldingr ( ) posted Sat, 09 January 2016 at 11:33 AM

This came from Smith Micro. I have done the following and Poser now works fine.

KB3132372 which impacts Flash Management on Windows 10. Our Engineers are working to identify the root cause. Microsoft has acknowledged a known issues in this security update and they are aware of limited application crashes that occur after this security update is installed on Windows 10. Microsoft is researching this problem with Adobe and will post more information when the information becomes available. A work around is to uninstall the above update using Add and Remove Programs (Updates) The other option is to switch to the External Library that uses AIR if you do not wish to remove the problematic Update released by Microsoft earlier this week. To change to the External Library, go to C:UsersAppDataRoamingPoser Pro10 AppData may be hidden. Go your Control Panel, (Change from Categories to an Icon view on the right) select Folder Options and under the View Tab, select Show Hidden Files and Folders to allow you to view the AppData folder. Open the Poser.ini file using Notepad Locate the line LIBRARY_IS_AIR and change the 0 to a 1 Save and close. You can now launch and use Poser Pro with the External AIR Library. (NOTE: If you do not have AIR installed on your system, you will want to go to the Adobe Site and obtain the Latest AIR application from Adobe.)

Thanks.

In C:/Users/Anthony/AppData/Roaming/Poser/10/Poser.ini I changed LIBRARY_IS_AIR 0 to LIBRARY_IS_AIR 1

I installed Adobe Air

And my Poser 10 still crashes on startup. . Sorry.

Anthony Appleyard ( ) posted Sat, 09 January 2016 at 3:06 PM

After that last message, I powered down and restarted my computer. My Poser 10 crashed out on start as usual.

In C:/Users/Anthony/AppData/Roaming/Poser/10/Poser.ini the line LIBRARY_IS_AIR 1 had been changed (not by me) to LIBRARY_IS_AIR 0

Control Panel/All Control Panel Items/Programs and Features shows that Adobe Air was present and installed.

oldingr ( ) posted Sat, 09 January 2016 at 5:52 PM

You will need to download the current version of Adobe Air in order for it to work correctly.

Also the INI file should be in C:Users/AppData/Roaming/Poser Pro/10/poser.ini

For some reason Rendo removed all of the lashes. BTW if you have an older version of Adobe Air it should be uninstalled first. This basicly changes Poser to use the internal libraries for flash. This was what caused Poser to crash on startup.

Bob,

oldingr ( ) posted Sat, 09 January 2016 at 6:00 PM

Anthony your location to the Poser.ini file is correct, sorry. The line LIBRARY_IS_AIR 1 must be set to 1 which tells it to use the internal libraries.

Bob,

Anthony Appleyard ( ) posted Sun, 10 January 2016 at 12:04 AM

I did not have Adobe Air before this. I installed Adobe Air on9 Jan 2016.

I set the line to LIBRARY_IS_AIR 1 . Something in my computer set it back to LIBRARY_IS_AIR 0 without my permission..

Anthony Appleyard ( ) posted Sun, 10 January 2016 at 12:14 AM · edited Sun, 10 January 2016 at 12:21 AM

Same again a few minutes ago. I changed LIBRARY_IS_AIR 0 to LIBRARY_IS_AIR 1. I called Poser 10, which refused to run. I looked in Poser.ini using Wordpad. The line now was LIBRARY_IS_AIR 0 again. Something automatic keeps changing it back. I have Windows 10 Home version 1511, OS Build 10586.36, x64 processor type, which came as a free upgrade offer from Microsoft. I had Windows 8.1 before. Control Panel/All Control Panel Items/Programs and Features says that my Adobe AIR was installed on 9 Jan 2016 and is version 20.0.0.233 .

My Settings page has a clickable to upgrade my Windows. Should I accept the offer?

oldingr ( ) posted Sun, 10 January 2016 at 11:49 AM

Anthony, try running notpad.exe as administrator and making the changes doing that. The AppData folder does include some MS Security. Other than that you may wish to search the registry for a reference to "LIBRARY_IS_AIR" to see if something is changing it there. I would also search your C: volume for any other copies of Poser.ini which could be giving you issues. I hope some of this may help.

I found some left over from old Poser installations, and I renamed them as Poser.nin

Anthony, try running notpad.exe as administrator and making the changes doing that. The AppData folder does include some MS Security.

Same effect (with Notepad and with Wordpad) as with editing in normal mode, i.e. Poser 10 crashed out, and LIBRARY_IS_AIR went back to value 0.

Other than that you may wish to search the registry for a reference to "LIBRARY_IS_AIR" to see if something is changing it there.

The only find (using Regedit) was in:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / SYSTEM / WPA / HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/WPA/8DEC0AF1-0341-4b93-85CD-72606C2DF94C-7P-14

(where / (unless between spaces) should be backslash.)

no name, type REG_BINARY, value = a long sequence of 2-digit hexadecimal byte codes.

Sorry Anthony I am out of suggestions.

Anthony Appleyard ( ) posted Sun, 10 January 2016 at 11:44 PM

Thank you for all your efforts. It seems that the only 2 likely remedies are one of:

(1) Wait endlessly until Microsoft sends a proper working upgrade for Adobe Flash.

(2) Buy Poser 11, which is ex£en$ive, and is said to still have serious bugs and faults.

Thanks again.

I suspect that someone in charge of Poser 10 did not trust the result of Poser 10 running with Adobe AIR, so he put in a bit of program to look what LIBRARY_IS_AIR is set to in Poser.ini and change it to 0 .

ehliasys ( ) posted Mon, 11 January 2016 at 8:34 AM

I think, only PP2014 can run with AIR and external library. I guess Windows 10 doesn't let you uninstall/disable the update (KB3132372 )? In this case you should contact SM support.
