Subject: Poser 11 Render Export problem

IsaoShi ( ) posted Sun, 10 January 2016 at 9:57 AM · edited Sat, 30 November 2024 at 8:10 PM

Just wondering if anyone else has seen this problem with Poser 11 Pro (on a Mac in my case).

The first image was cropped from a PNG export of a full window render (not an area render). There are clear artifacts, almost as if it was done as a series of area renders over the top of a full window render - but it wasn't.

The second image was cropped from a direct screenshot of the render in Poser, showing that the artifacts were not present in the render itself.

I haven't reported this to SM yet, just finding out if it's a known problem - though I can't find any threads related to it.

Thanks

Izi

Edit: I should say that these are Superfly renders - it might be relevant.

Edit 2: The artifacts were in a PNG export. I just tried a JPG export, and these artifacts do not appear.

Hmmm. ok, before we make a report just curious. Have you tried it with other formats? jpeg etc. See what the results are there.
Second question ... did you let it complete it's render?

Thanks Boni. I've cross-edited my post above.

Good point about completed render. I was using Progressive Refinement, and clicked Cancel after 40 Path Tracing Samples (full image updates). So it could be related to the complete/incomplete buckets within the sample that I interrupted. Strange that it only happens with PNG export though, and not JPG.

A guess as to what might be happening...

With Progressive Refinement, I expect there is a temporary cached copy of the render which is updated as each bucket is completed. Only when all the buckets for one sample are completed is the actual render image updated from this. If the PNG export utility uses the cached image instead of the rendered image, it would appear as per my example (depending on how many buckets have been completed in the sample that was interrupted). The JPG export utility appears to use the correct image.

OK, now I'm getting different symptoms. Any interruption of a Progressive Refinement render mid-sample is now giving me a screen render with some buckets complete for the current sample and others incomplete, with obvious ugly boundaries between them. More testing needed after a Poser restart...
