Anyone can enter. There aren't any specific categories.

I'm confused, the rules only say this:
"Image size must be a maximum of 1200 pixels x 1200 pixels in .jpeg or .gif format (72 dpi)"
In the past (Halloween and Christmas), there were "Additional Rules" for animations, e.g. 1 minute max, max file size, format (wmv, etc.), etc. Are you really allowing animations?
Hi @Stevek- I'm so glad you asked! Usually how it works is: I'd have to make everyone submit an animation for each entry and that's unfair, so unfortunately, we cannot accept animations in the contest I'm really sorry! I know you usually always have them and I feel bad. Next time though!

Okay, no problem, thanks for the prompt response. I'll concentrate on the still image this time, should come out better ...
Just to mention it, you said "I'd have to make everyone submit an animation for each entry ... " That's not what I was saying, just that in past contests there were different categories of entries: still 3d render, animation, 2d, writing, photo. So not everybody had to do an animation. No problem, this time just one category, still render, got it.
I gotcha. Yeah... there is just one category this time. Can't wait to see your entry!!

Barnes & Noble is a bookstore. I guess they don't have it where you live, huh?

A suggestion to modify the Entry Specifications.
Where it says (emphasis mine) "Thumbnail image must be maximum of 300 pixels (wide) x 350 pixels (height) in .jpeg or .gif format (72 dpi)." it should read "Thumbnail image must be Exactly 300 pixels (wide) x 350 pixels (height) in .jpeg or .gif format (72 dpi)."
I just lost my description because I kept the aspect ratio of my image in my thumbnail. It was 300 pixels wide, but less than 350 tall, and when I tried to submit it, the form gave me an error saying the thumbnail must be the size given. That would not be so bad, but my keyboard is missing a few keys - including "e" (the most common letter of all!) - and when it gave the error it cleared the description field!!
WOOF! MOO!! ARF!!
I mean ... Please consider the effect such things have and try to either not clear the fields when informing the user of such things or make the guidelines a bit more accurate. I did follow the size given as it was under the maximum, but had no idea that "a maximum of" really meant "exactly" in terms of pixel dimensions. Using the browser's "Back" button did not help. No way to retrieve what I typed.
I came here instead of re-typing my description so I could get over myself and accept that typing it out all over again isn't that bad a thing, just frustrating when my keyboard is ... incomplete. I have to use a chopstick to hit certain keys and that makes me feel compelled to complain.
It also makes me hungry for sushi!
But you can't do anything about that. Unless the prizes can include a Gift Certificate to a local Sushi Restaurant? Yes! That is my other suggestion. Food is something everybody can use!! I never saw that offered as a prize, so please consider that too while deciding to fix the guidelines to reflect that "Maximum of 300 pixels (wide) x 350 pixels (height)" really means "Exactly 300 pixels (wide) x 350 pixels (height)"
Thanks.

Thanks for the suggestion ! I'll be sure to keep this in mind the next time around!
And, unfortunately, since there are members in various parts of the world, I don't think a GC to a restaurant would be suitable. For instance, Peggy doesn't have a Barnes & Noble where she's located so who is to say that members will have the designated restaurant. Know what I mean? It's a good suggestion though!!!

I guess I should inform you that I have a Terrible Disease.
I'm a Sarcaleptic. I have uncontrollable bouts of sarcasm.
It's my favorite imaginary disease. I made it up myself!
So statements like that should be taken with a pillar of salt.
