Subject: Really cool and useful plugin ideas for Poser

LaurieA ( ) posted Tue, 19 January 2016 at 1:34 PM · edited Mon, 23 December 2024 at 4:46 AM

Bear in mind I can't write ANY of these things, but I would sure like to see them ;).

  1. A better dynamic hair plugin along the lines of Garibaldi hair and Look At My Hair for DS, or better :D

  2. Better dynamic cloth plugin than Poser's native cloth. VirtualWorldDynamics is working on a neat plugin for conformers to dynamics. Hope it comes to market. I'll be all over that.

  3. A Marvelous Designer plugin? Huh? Huh?

  4. Some particles. Fog, magical effects, etc, etc.

  5. Maybe a plugin that could automate the rigging of a non-Poser figure to a Poser rig for figures AND clothing. Just thinkin out loud.

  6. A SuperMorph Brush ?? Maybe one that could utilize brushes for things we'd use in Poser like wrinkles on skin or folds in clothing.

  7. Some type of fitting tool that's more automated than WW, XDresser or the fitting room.

Just some examples of the kind of stuff that's in my tiny brain that I wouldn't mind seeing as a plugin for Poser. Since the only plugin we have so far is Reality. After what....two or three versions? Is there any reason why they aren't being made??

Laurie

Edit: I would buy any and ALL of these things if they existed.

Oops, I forgot one....

  1. A plugin that does scatter and instancing according to user input. That would be very nice :)

Please note that I mean actual plugins like Reality is, NOT Python.

RorrKonn ( ) posted Tue, 19 January 2016 at 1:49 PM

6.A SuperMorph Brush ?? brushes like in zBrush,Mudbow,Blender

7.Some type of fitting tool that's more automated than WW, XDresser or the fitting room. most app's call it shrink wrap.

if we could grab n move vertices would be helpful also

Substance Live support? I don't know what that is ;) Explain? Please? I might want it too. LOL

Rorrkonn shrinkwrap is just a geometry thing, fitting includes realigning a conformers rig to match the centers and such of a different target figure. All the other stuff, no comment. Although I'm tempted.

Oh, I don't care a bit for Substance live support, but ok. LOL

My thinking behind this whole thread is that if Poser lacks some things we want, it might be one way to get them if we can garner interest among people that develop such things.

I second the Super Make Art button. The old one isn't Arty enough (strokes goatee).

Yeah, I realize this thread is probably like pissing in the wind, but I'd rather look for alternatives than bicker right now ;). Who knows?...something may come of it, but probably not.

Poser does seriously need a better hair and fur option though. I gotta Australopithecus that needs an overhaul. Plus really lacking in the Yeti/Sasquatch department in terms of a more realistic, resource friendly solution.

I'm not kidding.

I always say "hmmmm, maybe a Yeti..." then "nahhhh...."

Plus Werewolves... "nahhhh".

Well, I'll still trying to render a believable looking wookie, so a better hair/fur plug-in wouldn't hurt.

Death Metal I know you have a better sells game then that.

Substance Live is killer as the gallery n video's prove.

and in stead of just buying a couple different texture sets. What ever is built in to the SD5 material you can change in real time and to any colors you want.

I am all for plugins and hope some of these come to fruition. I already use a number of scripts from Netherworks and Semidieu that makes using Poser so mach easier and enjoyable. I know some begrudge paying for these extras and feel they should be part of the main program but I am not one of them. I missed them so much when Python changed in a recent update and I almost had to relearn now to use Poser. Happily they were all updated in super quick time.

I use Poser 13 on Windows 11 - For Scene set up I use a Geekcom A5 -  Ryzen 9 5900HX, with 64 gig ram and 3 TB  storage, mini PC with final rendering done on normal sized desktop using an AMD Ryzen Threadipper 1950X CPU, Corsair Hydro H100i CPU cooler, 3XS EVGA GTX 1080i SC with 11g Ram, 4 X 16gig Corsair DDR4 Ram and a Corsair RM 100 PSU .   The desktop is in a remote location with rendering done via Queue Manager which gives me a clearer desktop and quieter computer room.

LaurieA ( ) posted Wed, 20 January 2016 at 8:15 AM

Thing is, Poser has a plugin architecture that isn't just python anymore. It's the one that Reality uses. However, no one else seems to be using it but Preta-3D. Makes me wonder...

Python can only go so far before things need to be done that it can't do in Poser or it becomes a kludge.

  1. Would like the ability to import grayscale / black and white images to use as morph brushes.

  2. As I use Poser and its morph brush to create and export morphs for Daz Genesis figures, I would like the ability to lock parts of the body geometry to prevent them from being affected by a full body morph. It would make it easier to save morphs as separate head and body morphs.

Daz Studio 4.8 and 4.9beta, Blender 2.78, Sketchup, Poser Pro 2014 Game Dev SR5 on Windows 8 Pro x64. Poser Display Units are inches

If I remember correctly, Netherworks did start using the addons but then went back to doing python scripts because of some limitation with the addons, but I may be remembering incorrectly.

Nah hornet...I believe that. It would explain why no one is really using it, right? LOL. Shame too....I think Poser could REALLY benefit with some plugins, much as I really hate the idea of plugins, I like the idea of added functionality that Poser eiher doesn't have or isn't likely to update, like hair. At least VWD's Conformers to dynamics plugin is coming to fruition and will be in the Rendo market soon. I'm very happy about that.

Fibermesh.

In my experience, Poser seems to handle z-brush's fibermesh quite well. It pretty much treats it like dynamic hair that you can morph. And once I get my figures built I plan on doing yetis, werewolves, ape-men, etc, with them utilizing fibermesh.

Plugins I think would increase posers appeal to people who still choose to animate with it .

  1. A nonlinear motion block mixer like we have in Iclone& DS AniMate

  2. A Working IK on/off switcher With a hand contact option Like we have in Iclone.

  1. walk paths plugin that can conform paths to Terrains,Ramps, and other objects so walking/running figures can traverse them automatically Like we have in Iclone.

  2. a key framed reducer that culls key frames from BVH files to make them suitable for editing like we have in C4D or like the FREE script that does the same thing for the DS Graphmate plugin .

  3. a plugin that enables auto clamping of splinegraphs to prevent “overshoot” Like the DS graphmate plugin does by default or the clamping option in the C4D Graph editor.

A .obj import plugin that actually lets you set scale and direct it to your texture folder referenced by the .mtl file.

6). And auto rigger plugin for basic figure creation

All of these ideas are great - but if no oneuses the procedure SM uses to gauge feature interest, it won't happen. They don't add features based on random forum posts.

This thread wasn't so much for SM (tho if they were watching maybe they could get some ideas), but for those that develop plugins, like Preta-3D and VirtualWorldDynamics.

@wolf359: I like your ideas. I don't do animations, but a LOT of Poser users do and they could use better tools.
