Subject: Huge problem with Poser

SAMS3D ( ) posted Mon, 08 October 2001 at 11:41 AM · edited Mon, 25 November 2024 at 10:22 PM

Let me just say if someone can tell me what is happening I would greatly appreciate it....bought Poser 4 about 2 years ago, bought Poser Pro Pack almost a year ago....the same problem exists in both software packages, same problem exists running Windows 95, 98 and ME....here is the problem: I want to export a model out in Wavefront.obj, I click File, export, click Wavefront, large heiarchy box opens, all is selected, I say okay to the default, then another box opens and there are about 5 little boxes to place a check mark in, some are already marked as default, my question is, the boxes that are already marked I have the ability to uncheck, but the boxes that have no check mark in them, won't let me put check marks in them.......WHY does it give you this option if you can't use it? Sharen

Let the export dialog box open. Open another application (Workpad, Acdsee or whatever...) Click on Poser' export dialog box title bar (to get it in foreground) Now you can access all the options. You can let the other app in background. Hope it helps. Actually, you can go to any other open window, then back to Poser and the function works. If no other window is already open, displaying the clock will work, also. Hope it helps -D

I checked it out the normal way, and i have no probs checking and unchecking each. but i dont have propack. And i never used the other options, onlly " export as morphtarget"

first of all thgeisel, it happens to me in both Pro pack and Poser 4, next, let me understand this right Dagon, I am ready to export the wavefront file, I click in sequence: File Export the box opens Open any other application go back to the poser export option box and my options will work. is that what you are saying? If so I can do this, but do you know why we have to do it this way? I will try it later and get back to you, but if this works, I can't thank you enough for the info, how did you find out about this little trick....people really need to know about this little quirk. I am sure I am not the only one with this problem....thanks again Sharen

Sharen, I export from Poser 4 on a Macintosh and havent seen the problem youve encountered. I dont run ProPack, so I suspect it may be some conflict between Poser, the ProPack, and your system software. That doesnt necessarily mean Windows; it could mean a conflict with another piece of completely unrelated software thats forbidding you to do some Poser command. I realize it sounds unlikely but Ive seen it happen on both Macs and PCs.

It's a old trick found by someone on the Poser mail list, years ago ;) I guess it's a Windows' feature (not a bug) -D

I suppose you are right...I will try it later and see if it helps, if it does it may just fix all my other problems I tend to have when I export objects. Thanks again for the input Sharen :-)

Sharen, I have had the sameproblem with just Poser and no Pro Pak running on Win2kPro and it drove me crazy as well. I find that clicking on the system clock on the task bar a bit quicker than having to have another program opened. Open then close it and viola! the boxes work correctly. Who knows why?

Same here since I upgraded to Win 2000. Only have Poser and I use a wacom I found right clicking worked for me but only with the pen.

Gosh that is so weird, I wonder what makes it happen like that, there must be some kind of conflict with windows running something, maybe 2 of the same .dll's is causing it, that sometimes happens....thanks so much, I am not alone or just doing something stupid. Sharen

Yes, it's an another app or utility that conflicts with poser! Mainly, i'ts because, Poser "leaks" or overlaps it's memory demands onto other already reserved adresses... How, do i know? I ran a custom app to see what happened... For me, it was my "DirectCD" for my Burner that was being attacked by poser's memory leaks! And, i too had to switch to the desktop, then back to Poser to get it to work properly! For me, upgrading to Win2K did improve things a lot!! But, with my new system, it doesn't do it anymore... It would seem, that Poser likes the New Memeory Chips a lot better! :-) They are 512 megs P-133, Cas2(This is what makes all the difference..) Anyhow, Sam! If you have DirectCD or any other App in the tray that you don't use much, then ditch them!! The best way to go about this, is to boot under a new user name and set a minimal configuration for Poser!! Hope you find a solution!! Marco

I don't check the export as morph option on the pop up list and have no problems exporting obj's. Sometimes folks put stuff here and there for DL as obj/3ds that have only two of three axes working right. Exporting as an alternate format often fixes that.

I'm bumping this up because I had a huge problem show up this morning. Thank God I found this after ripping my hair for an hour! If anyone has any new solutions for this let me know.
