Subject: Gallery Search Function!

Hey everyone-

So, you've been asking for a bit now about the Gallery Search Function and we've made some changes. Thanks so much!

Please view the screenshot below and let us know if you have any questions/concerns.:

When I look at Poser I get 20,000 of 482,708 images on 400 pages, at least this is more than the 200 pages before. I just watched the renders from January 1999 until Februry 2002, from P4 Woman to Vicky, great improvement of the figures and also a big improvement of the search function.

You have no idea how much I was hoping I could say, "Wow! Thanks! This is great!"

However ...

It seems like they've added a date range to what was there before, but they've taken away the ability to search on a word and left us with only the ability to search for a specific artist.

The calendar function is difficult to use. When I typed in a date using the mm/dd/yyyy format, it told me I had to enter a valid date. Additionally, typing in the date caused the page to refresh before I'd even hit enter. As an alternative, clicking on the calendar to search for something that's five years old means clicking the back arrow on the calendar 60 times. Tried it again, and it worked fine. Once more, and it didn't function properly. I realize reporting random results isn't helpful, and the programmers ALWAYS think it means I don't know what I'm doing, but I can only report what happened, I can't explain WHY it happened.

I did a search with myself as the artist, gave it a date range and photography/portraits, and got what I asked for. When I took my name out and tried to search for ALL artists with photography/portraits in the same date range, it gave me only my gallery selection again, even though I left the artist's name blank.

Changed "Sort by Relevance" to "Sort Newest to Oldest," got a page that was sorted by relevance.

I've done several searches, and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I put in all the criteria, hit "filter by dates," and I get a random sampling of something (who knows?) and all the search fields are blank again, so I guess I'm supposed to start over? Only so many times I'm willing to screw around with this, and I reached my limit.

Showing 20,000 out of xxx,xxx number of images tells me nothing, and I'm not sure why that information is displayed. Perhaps others will find it more helpful.

I can see from your screen shot that you brought up the page that displays the search boxes, but did you try using it? Maybe you'll have better luck than I did.

Thanks for the try, but I can't imagine how I'd be able to use this.

I think it looks nice, I would however make it so you had the option to filter before search as well. When you press the search button without having typed anything, you could add all the filters there as well. Also adding a tool option for selecting Poser/Daz3d/Other 3D/Traditional/Camera/Model and 3D print would be nice.

Hey @Auntietk -

I'd like to address some of the points you've made here:

  • "It seems like they've added a date range to what was there before, but they've taken away the ability to search on a word and left us with only the ability to search for a specific artist." -- You can still do that. Do you think it should be in the same place as the new gallery search function?

Please view the screenshot below:

  • "The calendar function is difficult to use. When I typed in a date using the mm/dd/yyyy format, it told me I had to enter a valid date. Additionally, typing in the date caused the page to refresh before I'd even hit enter. Once more, and it didn't function properly. I realize reporting random results isn't helpful, and the programmers ALWAYS think it means I don't know what I'm doing, but I can only report what happened, I can't explain WHY it happened." -- When I manually typed in a random a date, it worked fine for me. So, when you typed it in manually, it just didn't work?

Please view the screenshot below:

  • "I did a search with myself as the artist, gave it a date range and photography/portraits, and got what I asked for. When I took my name out and tried to search for ALL artists with photography/portraits in the same date range, it gave me only my gallery selection again, even though I left the artist's name blank." -- this will need to be looked into to fix.

  • "I've done several searches, and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Only so many times I'm willing to screw around with this, and I reached my limit."-- Maybe you could give me a specific example of what you tried to search? A screenshot would help to see what you're seeing. Maybe you could explain a bit further about them being blank?

  • "Showing 20,000 out of xxx,xxx number of images tells me nothing, and I'm not sure why that information is displayed. Perhaps others will find it more helpful." -- this is helpful to see how many images are in the gallery.

Thank you!

Re:

Word search vs. artist search: It would be nice to be able to do a comprehensive search using both. Let's say I want to find a portrait I did of Chip when I was in Chicago in 2009. I know the date range I want. I want to search my own gallery for a portrait. If I could ALSO put in the word "Chip," I would find exactly what I was looking for.

Typing in the date: sometimes it worked, sometimes the date showed up in red with a notice that I had to put in a valid date.

Blank fields are just blank fields. They're blank. A screen shot would show you search fields with nothing in them. I don't remember exactly what I was searching for ... something in the Writers Gallery. It gave me SOMETHING from the Writer's Gallery, but not what I asked for. When I did other searches, the search fields still showed the parameters I put in.

BTW: the images in your screen shot are not in the date range you requested. Notice the date range is February, 2010 through February, 2016. The three images that are showing are from January, 2010, which is outside the requested range.

Date range incorrect- I just let the programmers know of this issue. Pertaining to manually putting in dates, I tested this out multiple times, but never had any issues. Therefore, I'm unsure about that one.

Blank fields : Are you talking about in the "site search" or the new gallery search function? So, you put in a certain artist or a keyword and got nothing? This might be obvious, but I'd like to get AS much info, so I can bring all the info to the programmers, so please bear with me!

Word search vs. artist search : I'll see what I can do about this.

Thank you!

@ auntietk - Typing in the date: sometimes it worked, sometimes the date showed up in red with a notice that I had to put in a valid date.

In relation to this issue the search date FROM and TO must contain valid data. If you search FROM 1-1-2015 TO 1-1-2016 it will work great if you get the year wrong and the FROM date is past the TO date it will show the red error. ie FROM 1-1-2016 TO 1-1-2015. I also notice it pays to click an actual date on the calendar or the year won't change. I usually just hit the 1st day of month to lock it in. I hope this helps

Just fiddle around with it and use it like you want to find something, not like you want to see what I saw. It will either work for you or it won't. I'm so thoroughly burned out on reporting and following up and explaining, I can't bring myself to start this again. I took the time to tell you what my experience was with the new search function because it was my number one issue after the "Revolution," but really ... I'm done.

And Johnny ... ummm ... yeah.

@Auntietk - I'm really sorry you feel this way, however, we tested this multiple times before releasing it. You can also use this bar to search for words:

As for the 'dates,' you must search by "relevance" - newest and oldest. 😄
