For those who do not yet know, Runtime DNA has merged with Daz, placing the "official" Poser forum on a competing corporation's platform.

I wonder if anyone will see an opportunity presenting itself?

Rendo could take a few ideas from RDNA's format, presentation, forums and stores ... There will be many RDNA customers who might come here again; especially those who don't care for Daz.

This is terrible... They already removed deep freeze sales from the site (the products are still there, but at full price...!) We will likely see a few RDNA vendors leave over this. A LOT of products won't make the transfer over since DAZ has a no-addons for off-site products rule, so say goodbye to al products on RDNA for Dawn, Dusk, Roxie, Miki, and Hivewire Horse... I doubt that any of formerly deep freeze products will make the transfer... Ugh... I was really enthusiastic about this year's Spring Thaw (deep freeze sale) too...

Can't imagine SM leaving their official forums on a site now owned by a hostile competitor

The poser forums will remain open according to posts on rdna, but will they remain the "official" poser forums? That is the question. Also of concern is the future support of poser only products there. So far Daz isn't big on supporting Poser. (can't fault them, it is the competition) I've read they will keep poser products and take new ones, but how long will that last? Too often I've seen mergers that promise one thing and then do something else a few months down the road.

Daz isn't big on supporting Poser, but as far as I know, the vendors aren't prohibited from doing so as long as the product has full DAZ support (excepting that I think that if they want to make a Poser shader product, they have to release a Daz version as well, but I could be wrong-- It's irrelevant anyhow since there is no Poser category in the Shaders page.)

Can't imagine SM leaving their official forums on a site now owned by a hostile competitor True. Where will they put them, then? Hivewire? Hivewire isn't going to host "the official" forum for off-site software on their site. So unless SM want to open forums again on Content Paradise, which they no longer seem to care about anymore, then there aren't too many options. The whole point of SM making RDNA their official forum is because they (SM) couldn't be bothered to host it on their own site. Poser is eventually going to fail unless SM get off their butt and stop relying on sales of Poser on other sites (e.g. sales off of Renderosity and RDNA like they do now rather than sales off of Content Paradise)

I really, really hope not. How can you provide customer support or help users if you can't link to offsite sources like freebies that help solve a problem or tutorials hosted by another site? The TOS here makes this place uniquely unqualified to serve as a customer support site for complicated software.

Everything can be flexible, anyway, Daz give support for their software in their forums, and the link policy is more or less equal, if not, try to post a link in their forums to a site that have some conection with something commercial.

Chris posted on Hivewire that SM had told him they are moving the official forums (obviously!), but not where they are moving them to. I hope SM would take this opportunity to redevelop CP and host them there themselves instead of relying on a third party again.

IceEmpress ( ) posted Wed, 24 February 2016 at 7:56 PM

CP is such a mess... most of their help/support links are dead, for one.

So it would be a great opportunity to fix it.

Once involved with a merger. A different market than Daz and RuntimeDNA, yet I tried to work through a Piss ant company buying one of the largest and oldest businesses in America. After they made a mess of things, I quit, along with many other people. As a version 1 user of Poser, been wanting to buy an upgrade. Not even worth it, with minimal, or changes of no interest. Wake up SM, the Reapers are looming over you and our once treasured quirky GUI program-Poser.

I was once in a company that was part of a merger, the sort of merger where all of the people in my company had to reapply for their jobs and most were given to employees of the other company. I was made redundant which I was unhappy about at the time but, with hindsight, it was the best thing that ever happened to me. The following year I was offered my old job back with a sizable increase in salary. I told the manager I would have to think about it, 90 seconds later I said no and almost ten years on I do not regret my decision.

Very few people will see this RDNA - Daz deal as a merger. The new company is not going to the called DAZ-RDNA. Point is though this is bad news even for Daz customers as many of the products they could have purchased from RDNA will never make it to DAZ, those that do will likely be much more expensive. I really don't see this as an us and them situation, more a loss to many 3D artist, no matter what software they use.

I use Poser 13 on Windows 11 - For Scene set up I use a Geekcom A5 -  Ryzen 9 5900HX, with 64 gig ram and 3 TB  storage, mini PC with final rendering done on normal sized desktop using an AMD Ryzen Threadipper 1950X CPU, Corsair Hydro H100i CPU cooler, 3XS EVGA GTX 1080i SC with 11g Ram, 4 X 16gig Corsair DDR4 Ram and a Corsair RM 100 PSU .   The desktop is in a remote location with rendering done via Queue Manager which gives me a clearer desktop and quieter computer room.

adh3d ( ) posted Thu, 25 February 2016 at 9:04 AM

The main problem with that merge for Poser users is that DAZ3d, in this moment, is in a "cold war" against Poser and SM to take the control of related software market.

It doesn't really bother me all that much, except obviously for the loss of the old products that I doubt will make it to Daz - and that content creators are being asked to convert their items for DazStudio so will probably move to that rather than standalone figures. That's a loss for Poser users, but there's still plenty of stuff out there and more tools in Poser to make much more of what's available. There are a load of good standalone figures that work in Poser, we are not restricted in some way to V4 and getting Genesis figures into Poser like people often seem to suggest. What I'm concerned about is where all the useful stuff in the forums is going. I really want to see that sorted fast. Not just the offical Poser forums, but Manga Studio and Anime Studio too. I want to see SM getting this sorted.
