That "thingy" can be turned off in preferences.

You can have it phone home once and then that's it. If you choose to remove poser 11 permanently and put it on another computer you have to deactivate it from the old one, then reactivate it once on the new one.

what phone?

sounds like i cant activate it.

my sony softwares let me register from 'another computer'
which was my trusty lil netbook. fed it numbers, it gave me numbers back to type into activation box.

win7 activation i called microsoft activation line from my non-smart cel phone, read numbers off my screen, they gave me numbers to type into boxes on my screen.

Sorry when I use the phrase phone home, I'm making a film reference. It just means the program contacts Smith Micro via internet connection when available at least one time. :)

There is a way to activate it from another computer. I went through this with my laptop when I forgot to after I had installed it where I didn't have internet, just follow the instructions and use a flash drive.

Well when I installed I didn't activate since I wasn't online. Then I forgot so it reminded me that time was up and I simply followed the prompts. But if you don't want to wait, look under 'Help' after opening Poser up. Mine's activated but I see a link to "Deactivate license" there so I'm assuming that would say "Activate license" if you haven't done it yet.
