Subject: Web storage space needed

Anthony Appleyard ( ) posted Mon, 29 February 2016 at 8:13 AM · edited Mon, 13 January 2025 at 1:02 AM

My history with getting web storage space started when I got an account with Demon Internet https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Demon_Internet, which also gave me 20 megabytes of web space. I outgrew that space, and needed more web space elsewhere.

In the meanwhile I switched to a personal account at BTBroadband for my email access. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BT_Broadband But they have stopped allowing web space to their personal accounts, but only to their business accounts.

Please do you know anywhere where I can hire web space?, with high download volume allowed, and preferably without intruded advertisements.

One of this forum's members kindly let me use some of his web space, and that served me well for a long time, but circumstances forced him to stop using his web site, but luckily another member of this forum kindly let me use part of his web space. But in recent years, attempts to link to that address by FTP to upload files to it have resulted in no connection being established.

How much you need? Dropbox is quite good i think. Also you could just buy a domain for instant at One.com you can get 100 GB for £1.62 a month or 200 GB for 2.25 / month and 500 GB for 3.87..

I found their website at https://www.one.com/en/.Does it have any restriction on content and activity?

Yeah there are some restrictions, no erotic/porno and you can't host a large number of free content for download, but doesn't say what is considered a large amount. But there is most likely some webhosting companies that allow any content and hosting of files etc. But again it all depends on what you need.

Also you can read this maybe that will be helpful as well: http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/news/internet/the-5-best-free-online-storage-services-3233766/

Thanks. Link: http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/news/internet/the-5-best-free-online-storage-services-3233766/

I won't be uploading erotica or porn, but high volume of download may arise.

But see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dropbox_%28service%29; if I put files in my Dropbox area, would other web users be able to see it?

I have just found https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_file_hosting_services

Only in your shared folder via the link. You have your personal folders that remain private. I have the Dropbox which is handy and if I want to share files without using up my data storage space try WeTransfer subscription which gives you storage 100GB and larger capacity sends 10Gb you can also have a custom landing page URL for your Biz if you want to have it look all pro I can't remember the cost now was 99USD PA when we started but it be more now I assume as a few years have passed. At no cost you can send up to 2GB free in one hit to multiple emails addresses but no storage.

Stand corrected appears to be 20GB sends in the Plus version.

In dropbox, you can make files and folders private or public, to share a file, you get a link to that file.

I use dropbox to store my free stuff in my site, and till now, I have no problem.

Another good place to go is jumpshare, the only difference is that when you share a link with other people, to download the file, they go to a page allocated in jumpshare site, anyway, there is not ads and it is a good service.
