Subject: ZIP file contains Trojan ???

cspear ( ) posted Fri, 26 February 2016 at 4:18 AM · edited Fri, 03 January 2025 at 5:15 AM

I've just tried to download the just released update for D3D's Content Mirror: it sets off alarms in Chrome and 360 Total Security: Troj.jpg

It means that I can't use the updated software. Please check the integrity of this file.

Same problem with Morphing Clothes and Poser eXplorer. This suggests that there's a real problem here, please investigate this urgently.

The files for those are fine. The reason you get that warning is because the zip contains an .exe file for those programs. This is a normal warning and you just click Save on it, pu tit in a folder and then you can run your normal virus scan on the file. Both files have been checked multiple times and found to be safe. 😄 Those two products MUST have the .exe file to work correctly.

Hmmm. Unfortunately 360 Total Security thinks the threat is so serious that it deletes it without offering any alternative. I've been in touch with Ralf and each alert appears to be a false positive: the antivirus being over-enthusiastic, though it's been very reliable so far.

Looks like I'll have to disable it to get the updates installed.

I've had this problem in the past with archives which contain scripts and executables.

One way is for D3D to offer a changed file extension, example .TXT, and after the download is complete, user changes it back to .EXE manually. That is poor security practice, though.
