I am fed up with Windows 10.It has corrupted a lot of my files. Every time I try to do some work, something is running in the background slowing things down. Last week I had an urgent project I wanted to finish and I had to wait for over an hour before I could start work as it was updating or something. It seems to me that they put this program out to the public as a Beta.I have a legal licensed version of Windows 7 Professional which is very stable.I am going to uninstall Windows 10 and re install Windows 7 Professional.I have 7 running on another computer in another room and it runs all my programs fine except for Poser 11's library which is a problem on both machines.I have sent a ticket to Smith Micro about this this! They seem nonchalant about the problem! Cheers

Like you I got fed up with the problems I experienced with Poser after upgrading to Win10. Other than the library problems I also had apparent cross-talk between PP11 and PP2014(noticing the library icons in 2014 sometimes changed to those of PP11, among other anomalies). I did a full format and reinstalled Win7(with latest updates from both Windows and Adobe), but this time I installed PP11 first then PP2014(not 100% positive this cured all the issues but), Its been about a month and I haven't experienced any problems what-so-ever with either program(including the library)... I'm lovin it...

Windows 8 & 10 include serious spyware and report a lot of your personal information back to Microsoft. Don't need that, do you?

First of all, if you have Windows 7, do not upgrade until you really really really have to. Microsoft will be supporting Windows 7 until 2020, I believe -- so stay put unless the authors of the software you use force you to change (or there's a rare feature of the new OS you actually must have). But always ask your software publishers then, anyway, because many programs will still run just fine on Win 7. A couple years back, Black Magic released a new version of daVinci Resolve that said it needed Windows 8 -- but when I phoned them, they said that 7 would be fine, even though it wasn't listed.

However, if you got suckered into upgrading to 8 or 10 (or you bought a new machine with 8 or 10 on it), then here's how to get a good chunk of control back.

(a) Grab a free program called "O&O Shutup" and install it. It will let you control what info is being sent to MS... http://www.oo-software.com/en/shutup10

(b) If you use a real desktop computer and don't want the interface of a Pad, you will want to grab a free copy of "Classic Shell" to return your GUI to one you'll be familiar with... http://www.classicshell.net/

Now please don't think, for a minute, that upgrading to 10 and then installing these utilities will give you a better environment than Win 7. It won't, but it will sure make your life a lot easier and safer when the gun is stuck to your head.

BTW, when you install updates to Win 7, MS is apparently tying to trick you into upgrading to 10. Be very careful what you click on during & after downloading the Win 7 updates. "GWX Control Panel" from Ultimate Outsider will help you not get fooled... http://ultimateoutsider.com/downloads/

I switched a couple of months ago, and I've found 10 to be better thanan 7 as far as application compatibility. For example one of the Windows 7 updates had broken Poser 7, but it now works in Windows 10. Also, I had been having issues with my SpacePilot 3D mouse becoming unresponsive in 7, but I haven't had the issue in 10.

In the minus side, my KVM switch doesn't get along was well with 10; sometimes I'll switch back and find all of the windows on one screen of my dual monitor setup, and sometimes the mouse isn't recognized, although switching back and forth fixes it.. Also, I preferred the Windows 7 interface, but there is Classic Shell, as noted above...

Windows 10 absolutely refuses to Run Poser pro 2012 with the SR3 for me. Have to run it with only sr2.

PP 2012 runs fine for me. I'm using SR3.1(9.0.3.23027). Both it and SR 3.2 are here(I've never installed 3.2 as I didn't use IE11):

My advice with Windows 10 if you get frequent crashes or failed starts on any software is try the compatibility test regardless of if the software developer claims it is compatible. I am on about application number 12 using this method and don't have much left I can't run. Once you get it going just test it for a while then when you close it you will be asked to save the settings. Substance Designer 5 will crash with latest update but that is more their end due to a Nvidia issue, I think that has been fixed or will be very soon.

I absolutely love Windows 10. I have it on both my computers and I run Poser Pro 2014 (as well as all my other 3d and graphics software) on it with no problems at all.

Progress hurts a lot more then other times. playing the blame game is futile .from windows 95 to 8.1 . I have lost app's n plugs .but 8 beats the hell out of 95 on it's worst day.

I have always had a tower but my next PC will probably be a notebook touch screen w10 ,w12 or what ever is current at the time. no tower ,no key board ,no mouse. the thought scares me but can't compete with a rotatory phone.

use 95,7,8,10, or what ever you want ,at least for now cyber world is still a democracy.

I found the factory units cope with it better than the custom builds when it comes to Windows 10 installs, I suppose when you get bits from all over it could be expected. But when I have Daz/Poser, 3DXchange and iClone open to import/export a prop or character with a few transfer issues having them all on the one 40" screen for quick tweaks all is forgiven. It has improved quite a lot since the release and they do tend to be tackling the issues fairly quickly.

I have Window's 10 on a few machines and have installed it on more than a few.

The only ones I have had serious issues installing it on are ones that have the Intel GPU in the processor used only for pass thru, and some of the AMD systems on boards that need drivers installed at the beginning of the install. These seem to give the most issue, simply because the install order of the drivers pre-install is critical and makes or breaks it.

I often wonder, if when people have issues installing or running Windows 10 if there were drivers skipped that are required at the beginning of the install. Windows is designed to run on a huge amount of different hardware, and incorrect installs only lead to headaches later.

I suspect this could be a resource issue - smaller HW will suffer more.

My Poser 2014 PRO has been running Windows 10 since last summer - no problems, plus I like the fact it can actually use ALL 24GB of RAM I have (plus I also have an AMD 8-core). Win 7 still has 2GB memory limits per thread - some signed 32-bit handle issue EVEN in 64-bit Win 7. Also, I reformat & rebuild my drive C about once a year, so I don't have a lot of old baggage. All of my data (& my Document, Video, Poser Content, etc) are on a secondary Drive "F" which is 2TB. Literally, there is nothing on "C" which I can't replace with a little install-elbow-grease.

I also have an Atom-processor netbook, which I moved to Win 10 & found it always runs at 50% CPU. I even rolled that back to Win7 (actually, I swapped in the old drive back in), but then discovered that it hadn't been much better (30-40%). So I went back to Win 10 & disabled a lot of things.

One thing I discovered - disabling OneDrive had a huge impact on the netbook - allowed it to drop from 50% to 11-20% CPU in one step. I do my backup/sharing on a 3TB NAS, so the OneDrive is NOT very attractive. I also disabled on the 8-core, but that didn't seem to notice & idles at 2-4% only.

A wise decision to revert to Win 7, the most stable of all and, while you are in there doing this, go into Win 7 Update department and find number three - NEVER LOOK FOR UPDATES. Win 10 doesn't offer update department options. It is permanently locked on Automatic updates. I was amazed when I found the third option in my Win 7. Have fun !
