Subject: Feedback ... idea, Monthly contest?

Boni ( ) posted Thu, 24 March 2016 at 6:05 AM · edited Thu, 28 November 2024 at 3:23 PM

Contests!

Our own SpookieLilOne has presented an idea to the rest of the staff for having a monthly image contest with small prizes in each of the appropriate forums. We are wondering how you all would like to see this. This is our way of giving back to the community and saying thank you for being here (as well as encouraging you to come back, of course). A little feedback would be appreciated for this idea.

Without being a "spoil sport"... don't waste your time. Been there... tried that... about -60% interest from the members. I tried it once offering over $100 worth of prizes and got about 12 entries. users are SO specialized in what they are interested in rendering that they just don't bother with whatever the organizerr chooses as a theme.

Themes would be chosen by the members. 😉

Have a creative day!

In the past the contest/challenge was only announced here in the forum and I believe that's why not a lot of people took part. Many who post here don't even have a gallery (not saying they should - just to point out that maybe they're not interested in rendering as much as tinkering with the program, or they post elsewhere) and many who post to the gallery hardly ever post in the forums. So, an image contest would best be announced in both the galleries and forums IMHO.

As for what 3D Fineries said about members having a choice of theme, that would be a great idea. Maybe have 3-4 suggestions and have members vote like the Challenge at RDNA used to be.

The challenge could also be a monthly feature at Rosity magazine and this would give it more exposure. Just having a thread in a forum would probably not motivate many people.

Yes there would be 5 choices to vote for for a theme. I like the idea of promoting it in the magazine!!!

Sorry to be a downer cause I like challenges, but there are people here that feel the ones here are nothing more than a popularity contest. Only the "cool kids" win. I'm not saying this is true, it's just something I've heard pretty much the whole time I've been a member. If you want people to enter, you're going to need to work to convince then this isn't the case. "Anonymous" entries isn't really going to help. A lot of artists have a style and people can recognize it. It's also nothing to say "My image is # 52". Maybe start with not having community voting. Just my 2 cents worth. Like I said, I enjoy challenges and enter when I can. Hey, someone has to come in last.

edit to add, just happened to remember, before Basicwiz started doing challenges, another coordinator or moderator was doing some but would take weeks to post winners after the date they were stated to be posted, long enough people forgot about it. There was at least one that was never judged, not that it mattered by then. Hardly anyone was entering. It just doesn't encourage people to enter more.

I agree, definitely not community voting. And maybe each month there could be different judges from Rosity staff. I think that would make for more variety in the winning entries.

RorrKonn ( ) posted Thu, 24 March 2016 at 5:37 PM

Maybe announce the contest in the emails ,forums etc etc Think it be best if the public and staff votes ,so every one votes but If you won ,you can't win again for the next year or something.

Contest has to be done right .so if it's monthly you have all month to enter and every first the winner is announced ,not the second or third but every fist. or if it's by weekly every 1st n 15th. or weekly every Mondays ,at least somebody's Monday won't sux.

and has to have time to catch on.so if only a few try at first don't give up on the contest ever.

I've made a thread over in the Poser forum to get member feedback and see that they say.
