Familiarize yourself with these concepts, read the relevant sections of the Poser manual. Once you are comfortable with these basics, depending on what kind of figures you are interested in making, move on to weight mapping.

Additionally, don't be fooled by the title, this book is invaluable. Much of this information is only stored within the heads of the Poser "illuminati". Tracking down the knowledge contained within these pages is virtually impossible. Of extra importance IMO is familiarizing yourself with .cr2 internal anatomy, something that you'll need to do eventually...

I've written directly to Smith Micro in the past about rigging with Poser 9 which I barely got to use before the switch to Windows 8.1, leaving the software useless. When the company answered they simply said to open a tool box which as hidden and even then never said how to do rigging. Will some one please make a screen shot by screen shot tutorial about this? I just got Poser 11 yesterday. I thought newer software might mean things would come with more ease but I was wrong. :-(
