Subject: Please improve search

The lack of search filters is driving me to the other site. Please consider bringing back filters like: -Clothing -Character morphs and skins

When I am searching for clothing, I don't want to see a bunch of character morphs.

Hi @parisgranville - Do you mean in the sections area? Do you mind providing me with a bit more detail so I can look into this.

Thanks.

Hi, Hopeandlove.

Maybe you can help me. What if I want to look at all the mens cloths (only clothes) from most recent release to oldest. How would I accomplish this?

Paris

hi Paris...

i can help you, but only so much as the search is quite screwy these days, imo...

to accomplish what you want using your example, you'd go to the Market Place. Along the top in the whitish bar, you will see an option for 'Departments' [it's right after the 'For You' bit. using the Department drop down system, you would then select '3D Figure Essentials'. once that flips the page, you will see the categories that Rendo thinks are 3D essentials - hard to miss this bit because at least in the latest Firefox, the categories are in small blue text on a grey background - and then you'd click the clothing category. now this is where it gets even stranger...

along the right hand side of the page, you will see boxes to check, and one of those is a box for 'Gender', so you'd obviously tick 'Male'. in this instance, it looks like there are 127 items; however, if you look at the boxes under the 'Figure' type category, there seems to be 79 items for M4 and 60 for G2 males, which right there is not equal to the generalised number for gender, which was 127 [the mind boggles]. so take your pick... once you've decided the route you think best, then you can sort 'Newest to Oldest', 'Low to High $', etc...

but keep in mind that you're still not seeing probably everything there is to see even if you've chosen the broadest category from that right hand sided menuing system. also, let's say you want to go by figure, but still want as much male clothing results as possible - so click Gen 2 Males. now look at the number of items for M4 and you'll see suddenly he has only 4 items counted for him [scratches head], and now under 'Gender>Male' there are only 48 choices [scratches head again]. so all told, it's a lot of doubling back and circling around and clicking/unclicking choices, etc.; and it can be fun clicking boxes because, hey, you have to tick one, wait for the page to flip, then tick another, etc. because you can't click more than one box at a go...

oh, and let's not forget that you are able to 'filter' as well in terms of 'Sale Items', 'Clearance', etc... but of course both filtering and sorting options can be hit/miss in their effectiveness...

maybe Hope can come up with a better way of accomplishing your desire!! at the very least, if she takes the time to try things out for herself using your example and cannot find a better, more effective solution, then she will know exactly some of the things that can be frustrating to the community. and maybe Kristi will see your post, and if she can't find a good answer after trying it herself, then p'raps either she can try discussing things with the programmer[s] for the MP.

hoping someone finds some of this helpful at some point and in some way...

maybe i should try searching for a paddle in the MP...

my only question then would be, if i found one, by the time i did, would one even be able to remember why it was needed in the first place, Joey?

I've found a free ping pong paddle at sharecg "I think with a little imagination, it'll do the job adequately" I just can't give you the link...it is against TOS to link to a competitive site.

Hello all. 😄

Yes, that is the most effective way to find Male Clothing for M4. Or other figures.

I can explain the difference in the numbers/totals that are showing there. Some items are for both figures. Say Genesis 2 Males AND Michael 4. This isn't as common anymore, with the Genesis 3 Figures being mostly created for Daz Studio use. But, a LOT of items previously would have been for more than 1 figure. So in a search, if you narrow it down to say Genesis 2..you only then see 4 items because now there are only 4 items that are listed under BOTH M4 and Genesis 2 males. So the more narrow you get, the less likely you will see items for more than the figure you are searching for. Does this help?

If you have any further questions I'm happy to help. 😄

i've a question:

will there ever be any positive changes and improvements on the way Search in the MP works and with its ease of use?

jennblake ( ) posted Mon, 09 May 2016 at 2:57 PM

If you could tell me what you would like to see changed or improved in the search? I could then give you an answer to that. 😄 We have completely re-worked the search in the past 2 years...to improve the experience for those that did not want to have to click through Figure/Clothing/Poser/Daz Studio etc and created the search that is now live on the site. The request for the clickable filters was added at that time.

Let me know what you would like to see, and I can respond appropriately with that information. 😄
