I have mixed emotions on that at this point. Yeah, it was nice to fill your cart up and see a (say) 15% off discount from the total. On the other hand, for items already priced 50-60% off I don't really expect coupons to work, and frankly the price is better than it would have been if the item was 30% off on sale, and I got another 15% off of that.
The real problem with using coupons at this point, is you no longer have any idea if they will do you any good whatsoever when you load your cart which is frustrating to say the least. Since coupons are probably causing more customer discontent than sales, it would be worth management's time to carefully evaluate the purpose and desired results from issuing coupons, and to consider if some other promotion would be better suited to take their place, for example a "spend this much total today to get this discount" promotion.

Frankly over the many many many years that renderosity has been giving out coupons, the company has sort of "trained us users" to wait for a coupon to purchase everything that we want that is on sale! Now limiting the coupon to only items that are not on sale has stopped me from using them much. I've been pretty frustrated with renderosity but I actually came back and used the coupon previous to the one you just issued… And I guess I had both for sale and not on sale items in my cart, so I didn't realize that the coupon did not apply to sale items… However when I went back and wanted to get another item that met the other prerequisites- the coupon would not work and I couldn't figure it out… until I studied the coupon wording and realized that it was not eligible for items that are on sale (again). So this time as I looked at the coupon wording harder right away and thought "no I'm going to pass"...
Just being very honest here and letting you know the mentality of your customer base using coupons… At least for me and I have a feeling other people-you know the silent majority represented by one person actually writing a letter-might be represented in this response.
That said it is good to have a coupon for items that never seem to go on sale at all but in that case I usually look for a pretty hefty discount to help me with those more expensive items.
